Isaac Smith v Mitch Duncan

Uh oh,I've got a feeling Donk is going to get upset again

I think it's a really good poll and will be interested to hear other peoples opinions. Don't try and derail the thread. Just let it run its natural course please.

I'd take Isaac. Was a match winner for us a number of times and provided some needed run. Also contributed on the scoreboard often which is important.

Pretty hard to compare since Smith has only played one season though.

Very surprised at the lack of love for Smith. Thought this poll would be around even tbh. I thought Smith had the better year, but both will be super players going forward. Here are some stats from this year, which Smith led Duncan in every category except CPs.

Really thought this poll would be a lot closer.

Smith was better this year, but Duncan only turned 20 half way through the season, Smith is going to be 23 next month.

Smith needed to be a lot better then Duncan to beat him in this poll, he was only a bit better.

Why  Despite their ages, Duncan has been in the system a year longer than Smith, so he should be better conditioned to the AFL through the extra pre-season at the top level he has done.

In todays day and age stats of young or fringe players do not reflect their true outcomes. Im not quite sure about Smith but Duncan was the substitute numerous times and had plenty of time on the bench even when he wasnt. If you associated match time in these stats people could gauge them better

Strange that you would not prefer the player that you think is better.:rolleyes:

You still upset at me proving Cousins was a better player than Hird

No, not upset. You didn't prove anything. That's my point.

Stats mean nothing. By your reasoning Leon Davis is a better player, with 2 AA selections, than Leigh Matthews who was AA only once.

Every time someone disagrees with you, you feel the need to pull out the old spreadsheet proving "Player A is better because he won 6 AAs, 15 Brownlows, 43 B&Fs and averages 682 disposals a game". EVERY TIME. For once I'd love to see a poll where you just said "Hey, Player B is better because he's a better kick, better mark, and has more grunt".

And FYI, I voted for Smith because I think he is the better player ATM. He walked straight into the Hawks side this year and played some great football.

I'm just messing with ya ;)

AFL pre seasons are well structured and excellent for getting the most from your body in a short period each year but they are not vital. A five month AFL pre season doesnt equal two and half years of solo gym and fitness work. Especially in that time frame after your late teens when you finish growing upwards and look like a twig.

Great choice for a comparison. Both players will get better with time so it's hard to speculate too much just yet.

Smith is a great runner with good instincts and with a slightly harder edge could become elite.

Duncan is all class and his awareness around goal is impressive.

Both have been solid contributors in 2011, but I gave the nod to Mitch for his solid work in a premiership year at such a young age.

I'd love to have both running around for the Cats but if I had to choose based on current output and what I think they will be able to achieve.. It's Mitch Duncan so far.

Hmm, but Duncan isn't better, and the question isn't who has the opportunity to play more games if they both retire at exactly 30 years of age.

"HyperAgressiveDonk - Which young, up and coming player would you prefer in your side?"

I answered it fine. Make another poll regarding who was better in 2011 if you want some consolation.
