Isn't it amazing...

... what a difference one game can do to the club. Having watched On the Couch and now Footy Classified there seems to be a huge amount of criticism being directed at the club. To mention a few they were:

- the Neeld press conference and the fact that he was "too emotional" and
"too honest". Didn't realise he was teaching primary schoo kids that need to be nurtured.

- according to Thomas and Wilson Neeld has "lost the players" already. After one game. Good grief. They interviewed Moloney and, because he referred to the coach in the third person, it didn't bode well for the club (according to Thomas). Way to go clutching at straws Grant.

- Lyon presenting the jumpers on the field before the game. I thought it was a nice touch from the club but Mick and Richo didn't like it apparently. Loved Lyon's retort when Richo labelled it grandstanding by saying "what, like waving your hands around when your team mates don't kick you the ball?"

- Thomas writing an article about Neeld not treating the indigenous players correctly, which was later deleted by Thomas as he wrote it on second hand evidence. Good journalism work there Grant. Neeld was PISSED about it, and rightly so.

- And after one game Mitch Clark is not worth the coin, not a KPP and will never be any good. Let me repeat the part about ONE game. **** me.

I can't believe the amount of criticism that the club has copped since Saturday. Sure, we were pretty awful on the weekend but it's one game. I thought Neeld handled himself in the press conference in a manner that the club has needed for years and we will be better for it. The media is always asking for honesty and when they get it, it's too much.

What's next? We get rolled by the Eagles and it's time to fold? Jeeeeeeeeeeesus.

I think it was Mark Robinson on 360? that said it's all a bit of an over-reaction tend to agree with him.

Grant Thomas is ****head for publishing that garbage this morning, spreading stupid rumors, glad he pulled his finger out and removed it

Well I plan to comment on this but where to start.

GT - How did coaching work out for you? Most hated coach in the history of the Saints. Lost the players, please, from a man who has no respect & is just a fat Akermanis.

Caro - Another 'days of our lives' moment from her.

Richo - You played for Richmond & have been put back in your box.

More later.

Least we're still relevant.

There's an external fascination with the Dees. Perhaps its drawn out of our hopelessness but I think amongst the football fraternity people do want us to succeed.

Having watched On The Couch, all I can say is that Mark Neeld is a very intense and direct man.

And that's what we need - but the moment it happens in the media and the bloke answers the questions as honestly as he can he gets smashed for it. Why? Why can't he put the players on notice? They didn't work hard enough, they aren't little kids that he needs to look after and he needs to baby them.

And Robbo is right - a huge over reaction, but that's round one and it was a game we were expected to win. We didn't and were poor, no-one denies that, but it seems like Malthouse, Matthews and Thomas just want to sink the boots in at every opportunity.

Yeah I agree 100%. I certainly wouldn't want to cross Neeld or reject his authority like what seemed to happen to Bailey late in his tenure.

In terms of the media though, I don't want him to descend into a Dean Laidley type figure who had a serious communication problem. I was very pleased with his presser, particularly given the circumstances surrounding the game, but he will have to keep it in check from now on and just feed the media cliches. Once the media set their eye on you, then you're pretty much ****ed. I want Neelds focus to be singularly on football, not fighting fat vultures like Thomas and Hutchy.

In fairness to Caro, she said she DIDN'T think Neeld had lost the players.

Grant Thomas, on the other hand, is an absolute idiot. How that man is still on TV is beyond me.

True, but she did hint at it which was completely unnecessary.

I can't understand why a coach can't be honest and up front without losing the players. They are paid big bucks, they should be able to take it on the chin and work their arse off to improve. Anything less is completely unacceptable and you shouldn't be playing the game.

Too many shows not enough content. The negative talking point from the weekend gets done to death/sensationalised for hours on end. Thomas is a narcissist who tries to stay relevant by being confrontational. Robbo is just another opinionated drunkard in the outer, god knows what pictures of Murdoch he has to work as a 'journalist'. Wilson thinks she's covering politics and Hutchy is an ambulance chaser. In many instances reading big footy is far more informative.

What if we win?

Investigations. Melbourne players tested for performance enhancing drugs and allegations Neeld was listening into the West Coast coaching box with a walkie talkie.

Nail. Head.

We're topical. Just need to grin and bear it. Better showing in Perth and the sharks will move on elsewhere.

Lot of sharks in our neck of the woods, and they are not friendly nor forgiving.
The locals are scenting blood, not the easiest place to seek redemption.

Anyone see the end of 360, talking about evolving nature of gameplans and Robbo said "will we see the game go back to man on man" and Bomber replied - let the coaches do the coaching and you can just focus on critiquing it - in half joking half you don't as much as you think you do type manner. I enjoyed it, robbo had no reply.

Who the f*** would be behind the treatment of indigenous players rumour?

And if there are pissed off players not willing to comply, piss them off to the VFL until they change there mind or delist if they don't - no exceptions. Players do not rule, especially not players that don't cut the mustard.

4 fatal attacks in 6 months, but Shark nets are not the answer.

The WA media has little impact on Vic clubs but if we show a 4 qtr effort and don't drop our heads we will earn some respect back.

Good call, accurate call, ditch the lot of them call.

Edit: except Gerard Whateley, I rate him highly.

I've commented enough on the mb, but Hutchy said he loved Neeld's words.

Garry?

Laughed hard at his grandstanding call last night.

Get him Mark!

Ridiculous call from Thompson, what a farce he is... almost as bad as Aker.

And so he should call the AFL and ask them to check it all out. It's not as if Thomas just had a crack at the game from the weekend, he made some personal claims based off rumour that someone else started. I could do better than that, it's crap, attention seeking stuff at it's best.

Thomas also wanted to sink the boots in all night on FC. Maybe he wanted the job and we told him to get stuffed?? There is a reason no-one ever comes looking for you to coach anymore Thomas. Have a good look in the mirror.

I love how out of all this media attention, Brisbane have not been mentioned at all. Perhaps they are an alright side?

Was always going to be a meltdown if we lost. I agree with the 'not enough content' post. Negative news is good news. Difficult to avoid it all in this day and age
