Mid East Israel declare war after Hamas attack III

Do you think they don't understand that they're behaving like Nazis, or do you think they know they are, but it's ok because they're the chosen people?

I'm very comfortable calling the supporters of the current state of Israel fascists and Genocidaires (Nazis). The ICC Prosecutor and most of the world agrees that the current state of Israel is led by Genocidal fascists. Support for that is unconscionable.

If you're offended by that, that's going to have to be your problem to bear. You might want to think about why you're offended and why you're supporting this state rather than what words people are using to describe it.
I'm not offended by that.

But being a supporter of an Israeli state is different to supporting the military action of the current Israeli government, even though lots support both. Just as being a supporter of a Palestinian state is different from being a supporter of the actions of the military wing of Hamas, even though lots support both.

The ICC arrest warrants on both sides is a positive development as there can be no argument that it is being used as a political tool. This creates a very strong incentive for both parties to end the war instead of continuing on for no purpose. Palestine has also agreed to ICC jurisdiction so Sinwar & co can actually be arrested by the ICC on their own soil. Haniyeh being on an arrest warrant should in theory create significant issues for Qatar too.

It is a shame the ICC didn't also bring a warrant against Iran's extremist leadership who as well as launch an actual large scale attack on Israel repeatedly publicly declare their intent to wipe all Jews & Israel off the face of the planet. They are the biggest drivers of the current war and make no attempt to hide it.

We're all hearing about what the Palestinians must do about ending the conflict and building up what must come afterwards. But what about Israel? If Israeli attitudes and practices don't change hatred is guaranteed to continue.

I guess more focus is put onto Palestine because their governance is a lot messier and less-defined than Israels.

We already know how to get rid of Likud and Bibi and Gvir and the far-right nationalist nut jobs in Israel via democratic elections and transparent processes.

But Palestine, especially Gaza, is a lot trickier. Hamas took power without elections, and there haven't been any meaningful 'elections' in Gaza in 20 years.

So naturally that issue gets a lot more of the attention in theorycrafting geopol discussions.

Well said.

Isn’t this the way everyone on here wanted Israel to go about things?
Just eliminate Hamas without the bombing. Defeat Hamas without civilian casualties. Super spy movie stuff.
NOT by endangering health workers in this way. Medical staff have one directive - save lives. They help people regardless of background. They are beyond geo-politics.

To erode trust in these people, especially in a war zone, should be among the most reprehensible war crimes on the books no matter who it is committing them. You don't pose as medical staff to kill.

Conversely, Israel keeps voting in hard-right political nut jobs.

And the Opposition is also on-board with the war cabinet and approved all these decisions. So it doesn't seem like an election will solve anything in Israel either.

Just like Rwanda and Germany, Democracy is not an immunity from committing Genocide. And nor does changing Govt let the country off the hook.

Do you conveniently forget that Israel bombed the Iranian Consulate in Syria and killed a diplomat and thats why Iran attacked Israel?

Did it slip your mind?

Does Iran not have the "right to defend" themselves?

Israeli politics seem so fractured to me. I can't remember when a single party ruled outright - every government seems to only get there through coalition agreement. It gives their fringe parties with their crucial votes opportunity to act as kingmaker, and that is NOT always a good thing.

Iran's right to defend itself does not include constant threat & rhetoric to destroy Jews / the state of Israel and / or constantly arming of multiple proxies that attack Israel with regularity. This has been going on eternally.

Or did you forget about those actions?

It's their political system. You get a percentage of seats based on the percentage of votes you get - only Primary votes. As little as 3.5% of votes gets a seat. Sounds good in theory as minority groups should be represented (although Bibi has put in laws to refuse Knesset seats), but in reality it means loonies are represented and can have the balance of power. And it pretty much ensures that the government is a coalition. Eg. the Aussie current government only got 32% of the primary vote and would have had to form a coalition under their electoral system.

Isn't that what Israel are exactly doing to Palestine, before and after Oct 7th?

How regularly?

As regular as Israel's near daily bombing runs into Syria to destroy "Iranian militia" aka: airports etc...
