We were absolutely pitiful tonight. There's no two ways about it.
Only one player should be happy with himself tonight: Gibbs. Didn't stop trying, I was listening to the game and Brayshaw commented that if we were any chance to come back in the last (we all know how that turned out), then the players needed to have Gibbs' attitude.

In short:
20-odd passengers tonight.
Ratten seriously needs to do better with this list.

So Gibbs is going to be your 'patsy' in Thornton's absence I was feeling pretty ordinary after tonight's game, but once you started posting your obsessive hatred, it just made me thankful that I am not like some people. This is a definite positive on a disappointing night.

Just been watching the game on the tele lads.

To be honest I don't think Houlihan was that bad. He did show endeavour but from what I can see he's up the field in the forward line.

Which is the problem. After halftime the ball was virtually locked in the Essendon forward line. Their forward pressure was electric.

Agree on the Nick Stevens call....didn't seem to have much influence.

A very bad night unfortunately but nothing that can't be fixed. Armfield, Bower, Jamison all having indifferent games.

Lastly....Essendon were extremely impressive...no particular standouts, simply a full team effort.

I was talking about structure. Geniuses like yourself would have us sacking most of the team, getting done by 30 goals the next week and then come back whinging about how we should sack them too.

Everyone is upset but at least be practical when deciding what to do about it rather than bleating and swinging the axe wildly.

Lets put it this way. We still have a makeshift forward line that is totally dependent on a guy that has the workrate of I dunno Warwick Capper. Fevola actually reminds me of Jacko. His flamboyance undid his talents, as does Fevolas.

The Bummers never had any doubt that they could lob it into their forward line and get a positive result. We still depend on Fevola getting a mark and goal EVERY TIME, or a midfielder might sneak one in. Still doesn't make our forward line DANGEROUS by any standard.

Fevola should look at Eddie Betts workrate and feel seriously ashamed. And Houlihan, the less said about him the better. Our memories seem to be pretty short when it comes to Houlihans work-rate, let alone a 'role' he never delivers in.

..and it doesn't help when you have scumbags like JOHN ELLIOT putting un-neceessary external pressure on the club for his own lunatic aims.

I've seen every game this year.

Here is the biggest problem.

Rattens game plan. Why.

1. The game is called football! Under Ratten there seems to be a ridiculous desire to zone space regardless of is in it. Perhaps if they wore bibs and had to stay in their third of the field this might work. BUT it does not.

2. Attack the player with the ball. F**K me but if see another team run the ball the lenghth of the ground without one of our playing putting pressure on him I think I may lose it. It just keeps happening. See point one zoning off - regardless of what is happening.

3. Never allow Jordan Bannister to wear navy blue again, in-fact a Red guernsey with a bullant is flattering. An emabrassing effort Jordan. Why pick him?

4. Completely static ball movement. How many times did we kick 30 metres to a back pocket after a behind. This is kids stuff.

Finally, rant over, Ratten is not a coaches a-hole and I will not waste my time watching him butcher the talent we have. It is a joke.

No place for pointscoring or second guessing.

With Waite gone, Thornton out should always weaken us greatly. No idea how our defence stood up so well against the Saints with such inexperience.

In terms of reading the play and taking a timely mark and doing the 1%ers, Thornton is to us what Fletcher is to you if you know what I mean.

Plus we go in with Houlihan negating, Armfield negating, Browne negating, Bannister negating, Joseph negating ... we continue to react to teams rather than back our skills.

It was 6 goals at 3/4 time and we missed a couple we might normally get. 12 goals is just a dropping of the head and a capitulation, make no mistake.

We play one good game every second game. Our last good game just happened to be another loss and we believed we were close to the Saints and they just seem to take any opportunity to believe their own publicity.

Why commentators kept talking us up at 6-6 I have no idea. Better they write us off from finals now and we might knuckle down.

Exactly. If we are actually a finals threat why don't we play our own game rather than adapt ours to to an inferior side. Dunno how many were at the crows game but us bastardising our style to meet theirs was only outdone by tonight.

Although not a time to slit our wrists unfortunately Essendon is a team we can't seem to match at the minute mind you I'd rather have our wood over Collingwood who seem a genuine contender of sorts. Think finals are still in us though don't think the side we had on the park are gonna take us there.

It's called taking your place in the team for granted and not putting in the required efforts.

Sounds juvenile but he needs to be taught a serious lesson.

Stevens owes his team mates, the club in general, and also the supporters in a big way. He let us down just as he has on numerous occassions this season.

It's just looking worse each time because teams have finally woken up to it.

If a team puts a player up against Stevens they'll be rewarded time and time again by acres of space, and it costs us dearly.
