Has any one who has been to training noticed if he has been running around with the mid field group or is it too early to say. The one thing I notice about Jack is he has very clean skills around the contested ball and moves it quickly to running players. It would be good for him as he can build his engine doing a pre season with the on ballers and maybe spend some time on the ball during the season. If he's not needed in the guts which probably will be the case with Andy Collins and Cotchin hitting their straps then he will be able to run the pants off any defenders in the forward line and his defensive side off his game and work around the packs will improve as well. Maybe he will kick a few more crumbing goals too .

I'd also still like to see what McGaune can offer us up forward as I know Rance will be pushing his way into the backline this year and that might free McGaune up to maybe have a run on the wing or CHF.

Thoughts ?

Leave McGuane alone imo. Looks very capable down back, as equally as promosing as Thurstfield imo.

As for Riewoldt, looking at his photo the other day in the run it shows that he really is still quite skinny and needs to put weight on. Came to the club with a lot of puppy fat and has lost that which is good. Maybe the club has decided that he doesn't have the pace or size to be a big key position player so instead their going to work on his engine so that he ability to keep presenting and to run defenders off is his main strength

Riewoldt will be our CHF. Has the marking prowess, agility and natural football reading ability to be very good in that position. Just needs to build his tank, which he seems to be doing this pre-season. An extra few kg won't hurt either. Aim for around 95 kgs.

I think he'd be a great on baller as he seems to know how to keep the footy moving forward and is pretty smart about it. He's really a one touch player which I like. I myself think although capable of filling out in the future to be a dominant forward he seems to lack the height by a couple of inches. In saying that he does know how to take a spekky and has a pretty good leap but I think the game has changed for those sort of players.

I'd like to see what the coaching staff has install for young Jack. I'm sure it will be all good no matter which way he goes. I really rate him. I've been a bit hard on his disposal at times especially in 2007 but that doesn't seem to be too much of a problem any more.

Royce Hart love the user name my favorite all time Tiger player wish we could clone him what a legend :thumbsu:

Royce Hart was 187cm, does anyone want to advance the theory that he would be 'too short' to play CHF in our current side, based solely on his height?

Gary Ablett Snr was 185cm, would he be 'too short' to play as a key forward target in the modern era?

Lockett and Dunstall were 191cm and 188cm respectively...anyone want to make a case to say that they should have been flankers or midfielders instead if they were now at the beginnings of their career?

As Beav said, Reiwoldt (who is 192cm and taller than all the above) has all the tools to play CHF; what he doesn't have yet he is rapidly acquiring.

on the richmond website it said he is 86kg i dont think he will put on 9 kg and built a better tank than last season. if he somehow does good on him and we have a monster on our hands.

I'm with Beaver...

Unless we draft a true CHF this year, Jack will play this role for The Tigers.
Not all centre-half-forwards need to be the hulking size of Jonathan Brown or the athletic nut that is Buddy.

Jack has alredy shown he has the footy nous to get to the right spots.
He clearly is way too good for VFL by kicking bags of goals as an 18 year old. (Playing against bigger bodies in many cases)
He has shown he can get up to the wings on long leads so can certainly play in the HF & centre zone.

& what I like perhaps the most...

Jack is NOT one of those "project athletes" that we are looking to mould into footballers.
If there is such a thing, he is a 'natural' footballer.
He loves footy, loves playing for his team and his team-mates... hates losing.

Another year or 2 of physical development and we will have CHF locked down I reckon.

.

Jacky is a true CHF, me thinks any incoming CHF will have to get past Jack before they can lay claim to being the 1st choice CHF ;)

We would be hard pressed to find a better candidate to play CHF anyway.

Sorry maybe I should have been more clear. He should aim for 95 kg, but I didn't mean to hit that weight right now.

Also I agree with emperor, how is Jack not a true CHF? His height? He is apparently 194 cm now. I don't trust those website results at all, telling us that Deledio weighs 81 kgs.

Footywire goes alright, but I'd prefer it if the RFC website just pulled its finger out for once, and actually had updated numbers. I ripped them on that in the membership survey.

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that Pettifer was playing on the opposition's best key defender each week when he was 19, and showed great tackling prowess.

Do you watch our games?
Jack did not play on Scarlett, Croad or any of the oppositons best key defenders.

I reckon we should send Jack down to the saints to do pre-season there with his cousin Nick.

If he can learn to work as hard and run as hard as his cousin does for the saints, then combined with his natural ability he will become a very good player!

Just don't take any tips about goal kicking though jack!

Hes as tall as Nick Rewoldt from memory that makes him tall enough if you ask me.

He is still very young for a kpp just turning 20 last week and i think richmond have handled his development very well so far. His ball use is very good and has good footy smarts even on days were he gets less then 10 posessions this year he always seems to be involved in crucial passages of play.

Always seemed like he'd had a lot more posessions than he actually did this year.
