AW reporting that he is on the table, GC and Adelaide interested.

Cue the trolls.
In all seriousness, what ball park pick would get him out of Melbourne? 2nd rounder?

Early to mid 20s I think.

The criticism of Watts are valid, and he is as frustrating a player as I've ever seen, but I still maintain he is a type that will simply take a longer time to develop. His skills and smarts make him worth persisting with, whether that be at MFC or elsewhere.

No doubt he has the talent. He would never have been taken as Number 1 if he didn't. Maybe the case that a new environment may be just the tonic.

Is he more running off the back line now, or where is he more suited??

Could be a fit at Brisbane? Fremantle? Carlton too....

(Cool 100 posts.... And my 100th is on Watts.... Bittersweet?)

Yet to find his position which is a bit of an indictment on him. Played mostly in the backline under Neeld which was a bit like treading water, and has played pretty much everywhere this season including as the loose man.
Arguably the best he has looked is on the wing, occasionally floating forward. His best game of the season was against the Saints in Round 1 where he played in the midfield.

There is a theory that he will be a lot more valuable in a better side. It would be nice if he could do some heavy lifting himself but he may never be that player.

Doesn't have the physicality to make it, avoids contact and is continually outbodied by opponents a foot shorter.

If I were Melbourne I wouldn't be letting him go, he's too talented. Bigger blokes take longer.

In saying that, he may thrive at another club and it just may be the tonic to have a breakout season.

Safe to say that ship has sailed. He has had more than enough time to shine.

Reliable poster on our board has our club being heavily into him last year and so once again this year - apparently good mates with Sloane and Lynch.

We are presently reconstructing our defence and I assume we see a role as a floating 3rd tall.

We also have had reliable info we are presently talking with Cats to swap 10 for 14/21. Finally we think Jarryd Lyons is seeking a trade and D's were into him last year.

So I'm thinking maybe 21 or a swap for Lyons

Hawks losing out there IMO - I reckon Dees would take it

Schoenmakers goes ok - just has the occasional brain fart.

i think if you put watts into the hawthorn lineup and allowed him to play the role gunston plays now, he'd be a very solid player.

i would trade schoenmakers in an instant for watts. think he would be a totally different proposition in a competitive team.

Why would you do that trade? I'd expect Shoenmakers to do well if he was given a go in the Gunston role as well and the same could be said for pretty much any quick fast leading forward. The Hawks will make Tim O'Brien look like a gun footballer soon as well.

Agree with your first half but not your second half. Still think Schoenmakers can and will be an important part of our backline once Lake/Gibbo go. CHB is his position not FB where we had been playing him. Watts would be very handy to have to interchange with Gunston up forward though I would think. Having 3 tall but very mobile key forwards would be very hard to match up on.

watts is a smart footballer. he will do something every 3 or 4 games that will remind you why he is/was so highly rated.

schoenmakers has some good attributes and is a better athlete but does not have the innate football smarts that watts does.

i like schoenmakers and hope he makes it as an afl player; i just don't think he'll do it at hawthorn.

i think both players would benefit from a fresh start.

Shouldn't even joke about someone like Watts ending up at Hawthorn.
They must be tempted.
He could quite feasibly turn up at a club like that and just go Boom.
His kicking is at the very top end too and what Hawthorn love.
It's frightening to think of what could possibly happen actually if this guy were presented an opportunity to play a type of front running role at a winning team.

What on earth are you talking about?

The rest of us are watching a club that gets gifted players, a CEO and as many coaches as it needs trying to flog just a few of the many high draft picked players that it's picked up over the past few years, in its own interests and without anyone forcing it.
Umm... Maybe your right... teams that are consistently bottoming out Should be banned from drafting, because drafting should only be something top teams are allowed to do?

The MFC weren't gifted a CEO by the AFL, they were taken over by the AFL...

Au contraire, Watts goes ok, just underperformed for his pick.
