Davis is the bigger loss, make no doubts about it. Add him to our back 6 and suddenly we're a top 8 looking side again. Gunston may edge him out purely on ability but CHB's are more vital to the team structure than a third tall forward.

I saw on the main board he's just been named co-captain of GWS (along with Ward and Power). Oh well at least he can be the one to cop the heat from the media after they lose every game by 100 points. :o

Probably not mate. I can't remember the exact circumstances surrounding Wanganeen or what Essendon got in return, but I know it was icy. Essendon were manic about it.

I don't really wish ill on Jack. He's a kid, he wanted to leave, he was quizzed at a press conference on why and he gave a bunch of bullshit answers like any kid would. Sure it's disappointing, but you can't use what he said against him. I'm not sure what people wanted him to say.

Tell it like it was, not same lame bullshit excuse that the environment at West Lakes changed him, that is about the weakest thing I have heard from a footballer.
IMO, someone put the heavies on him to come home or else.

He was just about to sign a new contract, changed his mind, didn't have the courage to face or talk to his team mates and was on a plane 2 hours later on his way to Melbourne.

They are the actions of a pathetic individual. The type that has no place in a Sanderson lead Crows outfit that has an empahsis on tough agressive football.

I hope we smash him evey opportunity we get when we play the Hawks!!!

Davis will definitely be the bigger loss. Our defence is looing a little shaky. Rutten and Johncock are the only two players that I have confidence in.

In terms of our return on losing Davis, we have to look at the two scenarios.

What do people prefer?

Phil Davis and Toby Greene (Presuming we picked him with Pick 10)
or
Brad Crouch and Luke Brown.

So if he did all those things right and still left, you would've been ok with it?

Like I said, terrible for us that he left, but psychoanalysing the spur of the moment actions of a 19 year old kid with no life experience is a bit much for mine.

We should be disappointed that he left, but we should be looking at why he left and trying to fix it, not calling him every name under the sun. We can be bitter and twisted if we want but it won't help us the next time a kid wants to go back to Victoria.

you are assuming there is something to fix with Gunston?

I think what needed fixing is fixed, he now lives in Melbourne.

For all the wailing and whinging that has gone on, Sando nailed it in one when he first arrived.

"We have to make the football club somewhere that when you arrive, you never want to leave."

"It is something we have to address. We have to be unbiased in whom we select at the Adelaide Football Club," Sanderson said.

"If we can get the best talent, we don't want to be afraid of losing those players to their home state.

"It is disappointing to put two or three years into developing a kid like Gunston and then lose him. We have to create success and have so much happening at the Adelaide Football Club that players say they want to be part of it - and not leave."

It's us that needs to change and improve. Crying foul and complaining gets us nowhere. Fortunately the guy in charge doesn't seem the type to moan about 'the system' or about players' attidudes.

I don't think we'll hear Sando announce "Welcome to the new AFL" as though doomsday has arrived and we've been caught on the hop.

I think thats pretty salient Pete, if he had gone to the club during his contract negotiation and said that for personal reasons he badly wanted to go back to Melbourne and wanted the club to find the appropriate trade, I think the situation would have been very different.

Walking in to tell his mates of the previous 2 years that he has decided to leave the club and move back to Melbourne would have taken some courage, but would have left us all thinking he is a better person.

As Carl said though, our challenge is to make the club a place that people dont want to leave.

I have no issue (now :D) with players leaving, it is just the manner of the departure.

We are in a competition where the biggest gains are likely to be when you move clubs - hopefully we can get a few more our way than the other way I guess.

the question is, what makes a club something players want to stay at? is it just premierships?

At the moment some of our fans just sound like Jack's twisted ex-girlfriend updating her Facebook status.

Pete, do we have fans?

Oh no...We'll have to employ countless secretaries, for the copious fan mail; publicists, for the positive spin at the Tiser; Public Relation managers, for all our glorified media interveiws; dietitians, to make sure we look our best on tele(now that will be a task); speach therapists, to around-out our vowels, for when we unfortunately - and I do mean unfortunately - have to converse with that Cornes bloke, on radio; accountants by the truck load, so they can rip us off from our newly found mega celebrity wealth. Chauffeurs, Groupies:), PA's, the works.

It will be the mother of all entourages...just like the rock stars we all felt, we would become.

Bugger...I must be dreaming.
