Interesting article about Jack and a few other players, with some quotes from Geoff Walsh.

Blight has had a back problem, but will return in the VFL this week with the Rus.

Jack had a run around in our VFL scratch match last week," Walsh told collingwoodfc.com.au."He played three quarters of the game against the Bullants and he's now going to play against Richmond (at Visy Park on Friday) … he's progressed well enough in his comeback."

In better news for the Pies, Jarrad Blight (back) and Sean Rusling (hip) are set to play in the VFL against the Bendigo Bombers on Saturday after overcoming minor injuries.

omg...has someone informed that other Blight thread that he has been found alive and well and can still play footy...

Rusling back to the VFL without a run in the seniors is a little disappointing. Good to hear about Jacky Moon though...

I think Rus will need plenty of games in the VFL before he is ready for the senior side.

Anyone that saw him last year in the VFL would have seen that he looked MILES off.

He has a long way to go to regain confidence and touch.

I'm hoping Ruz goes straight to Full Forward where he belongs. He is not a defender. He had no clue and it embarrassed the poor guy.

if his shoulder is as strong as they are saying, then he needs to go back to FF where he has made his name.

Agreed. Can't see the point in trying out of his natural spot again after all his injury dramas.

I doubt we will see Rusling in the backline again.

He was only played there late last year in the VFL to "get some miles" into his legs, becuase he had missed so much of the season.

But seeing as he has done most of the pre season, I believe he will play forward in the VFL this weekend and hopefully the senior side the following week.

He is immensely talented as we all know, it's just a matter of whether he can string enough games together to get back to the level he showed in the 07 finals.

Start him down back ... there is a whole season before finals & thats when he is needed most.

Rus has nothing to gain from playing back. Collingwood has nothing to gain from Rus playing back. If he can get on the ground it will only be in his best possy.
If he is going to get injured it's going to happen no matter where he plays.

Why would you even consider playing ducks and drake in a practice match which means absolutely nothing.

He'll either holds together or he won't.

Every important player is up and running 3 weeks out from the season proper, which is very important.

Only Dicky and Wood are unavailable for round 1 so far.

Hoping Rus kicks a bag in the VFL.

Hope Jack kicks a bag today.

I wouldn't be expecting a heap from Jack today, it's basically his first game back, and he will be playing on a "capable" defender in Thursfield, so 2-3 goals would be a good return for him.

My worry with Jack is still how he performs against the absolute best defenders (Scarlett, Lake etc), as this will go a long way to deciding if we are a real premiership contender.

Noticed the overs/unders market for Jack's goal kicking total this year is set at 48.5 goals too, that is way too low, will have to get me some of that.:)

Excited?? :D

Rusling nots let him have sitement til.

Rusling make goals.

:D But yea in all seriousness I'm wrapped that Sean's going to get another run at it. I think he oozes talent and is really the only pure full forward on our list (medhurst the possible other candidate). Anthony plays the role well but Rusling has a weapon. People will say he is a one trick pony and maybe so but that's one trick more than anyone else we've got at the moment.

I think we're a good side without him anyway and he will have to force his way in through the VFL but if he does that and plays well we will be a much better side.

I would only be happy to see Rusling playing back for maybe one VFL game to give him a feel for it but the man is a forward and a forward only.

Then you will be happy to hear Malty is wanting to play him off the HBF in the VFL this year yes 2010.

I agree Ruz is a forward and if he is going to make it that will be his only hope, hopefully Gavin Brown ignores madhouse on this call.

Agreed, he's not a backman. If being quick was a prerequisite to play HBF we'd sign Josh Ross or someone like that.
