Ok, I just read the worst and it seems we are interested in doing a deal with silly old sheeds to get the Jaeger BOMB!, anyone got any info on this kid? Any one know what we have to do to make it happen?
Would appreciate some info.

That's the article.

with that 'palmer will walk for more money' rumour by colondino or whatever his name is, could be possible. *if* we are going to lose him, and we can get it done via a trade - maybe just maybe

although i'll always stand by not wanting to lose palmer :P

I doubt there is anything to it. He trained with Freo this week (like most of the academy team did with other afl teams), and a journo at The West decided they would make a story out of it.

This kid is a gem, great skills ,speed, didnt look out of place with the best of them during his stint at training last week
Would take someone special to prize him away from Sheedy

Not sure about how this deal works, but if it is similar to how it was with Lloyd, we could never have recruited him as he was an underage recruit. Maybe the GWS cannot actually get him.

Think Essendon gave us 3 mature players for our pick at the best 17 year olds and they took Lloyd
Think it will work the same way with us giving GWS ex players for their selection of the best 17 year olds
Imagine we would have to give up something special for this kid
Other clubs would be in the equation for him so we would have to do better than their offers as well

Reading the post it sounded as if they couldn't actually get any of the underage players - only trade them on.

If Palmer or another player wanted to walk for money to the GWS then presumably we would get a compensation pick which we could then also pass onto GWS for Jaeger. Think about it - GWS get a pick and a player.

Will be interesting to see how it pans out.

So by my understanding 4 clubs will trade players to GWS and the club that trades the best player will have pick one, through to the club that trades the 4th best player will get pick 4?

Assuming Jaeger is the pick of the bunch will take real quality to get pick 1, teams that finish bottom 4 will offer practically any player on their list for what is essentially an extra top 5 pick.

Unless we get it on some sort of special deal like we did Faulks and Mzungu. Not saying they're the same prospect as this kid, but you never know.

Sheeds might be a little bit out there :D but he sure aint no fool

Times have certainly changed since Sheedy was in charge of the Bombers. He was quoted as saying:

I don't do the recruiting. Our recruiting staff will be ... We're probably looking at more of a younger group that comes through. We're probably looking at no one older than 24

Freo with one of the best young sides going around at the moment would be a big target of the GWS recruiters I think. Uncontracted players under 24 like Clarke, Palmer, Morabito, Fyfe, Bollenhagen & Mayne would be targeted.

You have to give to get. Someone like Chrighton, Bolly maybe even Walters would be attractive but probably not in the same value range as a potentially top drawer midfielder, although Chrighto probably fits that range.
Palmer will be the interesting one in that he was drafted before the current regime took over and doesn't really fit the model of tall runner with excellent skills that we've been going after of late.. Obviously he's a very effective footballer at his best and you would think is in an age / experience range that would be attractive. If he comes back hard this year he could be very interesting for Sheeds, suppose it depends how Harves rates him as to whether he would be put on the table. He's certainly of the quality range you'd have to put out there to get some interest.

Not sure I entirely agree with you there E. I don't really understand the speculation around Palmer. He had a poor season last year but he is a rising star winner and coming back from injury he was never going to have a stellar year. Unless he's insistent on chasing the big bucks I reckon we refrain from touting him around as trade bait, particularly with Mora gone for the year. We aren't that far down the road that we have a surplus of Elite midfielders...and yes I do see Palmer in that category..this year will be his benchmark.

It's only that rumour and those floating around about malcontent post-barlow that cause this to be even speculated. Probably bigfooty rumblings - and hopefully none of them are true. But in the off case it is - it's an interesting scenario.

I'm not advocating we trade him. Just noting that of all the really top shelf young prospects we have he could be a smoky to be offered up because of the reasons I mentioned. He wasn't drafted by the people that make the decisions now and his skills aren't in the elite bracket like most of the kids we've picked up the last couple of years.
Personally I have hopes for him to get back to his best but haven't seen anything from him post 2007 to put him up there with Hill, Fyfe, Mora, Barlow, Broughts, Suban as a prospect at this stage. If he can win pill the way he used to and get it to the others then more power to him. Could be very effective in tandem with Mundy in the middle. He's not a small lad and is very determined. It's the endurance running we need and he is looking good in that department.
I doubt he will be offered up but he's an interesting one to talk about. Lets face it there is bugger all else to talk about for a few weeks yet, especially as there isn't going to be a practice match (which pisses me off mightily).

G'day all, new to BF and this thread caught my eye to register.

I was thinking does our NSW scholarship Craig Moller be a valid trade under the rules ?i think he's GWS ruck now as much as I'd want him in purple and be our next generation ruckman, he might want to stay in Sydney? Sheeds will have plenty of mids to choose from, maybe not rucks so might consider a trade for Jaeger? both kids stay in home states and both clubs get what they want?
edit: and keep Palmer.

I'd rather trade someone else and get them both.
