I firmly believe that Essendon decided in August 2007, when Kevin Sheedy left the club, that that was its swan song and it was time to fold the club. They knew there'd be an uproar so they did it subtly. How else do you explain:

• Choosing Knights, a bloke who had never had success as a player or a coach, as head coach over Hardwick, a multiple premiership player who had success as Essendon and elsewhere and was an assistant to the emerging Hawks (and as a neat coda now is a premiership coach);
• Replacing Knights with James Hird, a bloke who had never done a thing outside Essendon and had never coached above under 9s, and Mark Thompson, a bloke who had just retired amid rumours regarding players' girlfriends, DJ booths and other odd nighttime activities;
• Dank, Dr Ageless, the Weapon etc;
• Throwing out Evans when he was trying to broker a deal that would have seen players miss three weeks and replacing him with a bloke who named his son after James Hird;
• Fighting through every Court and Tribunal you can find so you can turn said three week penalty into a four year ordeal with one final get f***ed in the form of a one year penalty;
• Replacing Thompson with Hird after he miraculously turns you back into a finals side; and
• Replacing Hird with a pharmacist at the end for lols.

Stringer is the next Fev and you don't want patient zero for cultural plague heading anywhere else. He is your last chance to send your reemerging club back to the Stone Age.

We, for our part, gunned aggressively for mediocrity so we could take our rightful place in another seven losing prelims by sacking everyone with experience and going for youth. It backfired, we overshot the mark and are desperate to return to the middle rungs to regroup after a disastrous 2016 finals result by sacking one of two players at our club with star power.

This deal must get done for the sake of both clubs' secret agendas.

That's one way to interpret it. Another way is to say that EFC did not do their homework on a player with well-known chronic long term injury issues, who was all but signed sealed and delivered to the Cattery until they did their homework.

Stringer could be anything. He could also reprise the role of Chad Fletcher in Vegas this week. Risk/reward differential is huge in the next couple of years. He'll either be top 10 in the comp or finished as an AFL footballer by 2020.

As ive said before id be suprised if we accept bombers scraps as weve been pretty clear on that if we think we arent getting a trade worthwhile we wont trade him. The club wont be influenced by the media pressure so might depend on if what was said is bullshit or not but really I know **** all like everyone else
