Jake Stringer, what has happened to him?

50+ goals and 16 disposals a game in 2015, had many very excited and the footy media frothing at the prospect of that sort of play for years to come.

2016 was a down year but he still managed 40 goals. Many thought he'd return to his 2015 form this year and he never really got close.

What has gone wrong for Jake? Is it a case of everyone getting too far ahead of themselves?

Watching him closely from last year onward definitely seemed like he was drinking his own bathwater.

Is it time for him and the Dogs to part ways so he can start fresh elsewhere? Or should they persist?

I reckon it's a huge part of it. Reality on top of that is with two young kids he can't exactly move interstate to focus on his footy and get away from it all either.

Much more of this and he'll be out of the league by the end of 2019.

He was actually having a solid season until his first injury this year. He came back well with five but struggled after. Kicked 20 from his first nine games which is solid.

It's hard to know exactly why he's off but a big part of it is not having great forward line support. He gets caught trying to wrestle with opponents and fly for pack marks which he's just no good at. He's at his best on a lead or at ground level.

I think when the team gets its mojo back he'll improve. He also just turned 23 so there's plenty of scope for improvement. He just probably won't be the goal kicking machine we hoped for.

A perfect storm of issues. A combination of laziness, family issues, injuries, awful ball use going forward, no forward support all add up in the end. His talent hasn't gone anywhere and he's only 23, just needs some support around him.

Yeah that definitely seems to have had an impact.

Went and saw the Dogs for the first time live in years last year in the semi against Hawthorn. Sat up high behind the goals and kept a close eye on Stringer all game. His leading patterns were either shit or nonexistent as he seemed to think he would be able to fly for pack marks each time the ball came in the forward 50.
