Sam Edmund reporting that clubs are sniffing around last years #1 pick already and sounding out his willingness for a trade with the Dogs refusal to play him being speculated on quite a bit in the media.

Edmund says he's becoming disillusioned and he's disappointed to be left in Melbourne whilst the Dogs got on the road.

Who would be chasing him? What would he be worth?

We've gotten to a sad point in footy if a first year player is a)expecting to be a clear top 25 or so player on a list and b) not taking it as a kick up the bum and working to improve.

In saying that, it doesn't suggest he's looking at moving, so lets hope the interest is one way

Slow News Day eh Sammy ? Under no circumstances will the Dogs trade him even if JUH demands a trade (which I highly doubt)

This seems like more atypical HS clickbait.

Yeah i don't believe it for a second but jeez half a season in and you are cracking the sads you can't crack a top 2 team?

IF it were true i would consider it a bit of a red flag

The bolded is where this whole story is just the most mind numbingly stupid thing. When the **** were we supposed to be playing him? Bevo has clearly said time and time again that he needs match fitness. He hasn't played a game in 5 weeks. Played a couple of games to start the year then got a finger injury. Came back and played a couple (maybe even just a game and a half?) before being concussed. Hasn't played since then. There was the game against the Tigers where there was a possibility of him being picked, but we went with Schache instead. A lot of people would look at that and think that's a good enough reason for him to be pissed at not being picked. But Schache was in fantastic form in the VFL, had the tank to play the role we needed him to play, so he got picked. Sure he ended up playing like shit, but he was the obvious selection. JUH would have been gassed at quarter time if he had to play the game Schache was playing.
So he's been available for a handful of games earlier in the year where he hadn't developed more the fitness to be able to run out a game. He was getting gassed in the VFL sitting deep forward for god sake.

This is how I feel about it too. Internally he would be being given clear feedback on why he isn't playing. Being frustrated at not getting any continuity in your football is understandable, especially for a young kid who has just been picked at number 1. Cracking the shits about not being picked when the reasons you aren't being picked are very obvious to everyone (except the media, apparently) is not. It's either incredibly selfish or he's not the sharpest kid and not listening to the coaches.

I'm happy to wait and see what happens. I'm not believing he's unhappy until he ends up requesting a trade. It seems to be low hanging fruit to latch onto a story about the high pick not getting a game.

He's in the unusual position of going pick 1 and not landing at a club that desperately needs him to play.

Grainger-Barras, Hollands, Pedlar, Angwin, Bowey, Laurie, McInnes, Coleman, Cook and Allison haven't debuted yet, but of those, Grainger-Barras, Hollands, Pedlar, Laurie, McInnes, Cook, have all been injured.

Angwin (pick 18), Bowey (pick 21) and Coleman (pick 24) don't seem to have anything wrong with them, but being drafted in the late teens/early 20s to GWS, Melbourne and Brisbane respectively it's probably not surprising that they haven't debuted as those clubs most likely have a log jam for spots in the best 18.

Allison is the only other first rounder who hasn't debuted (pick 26) – he landed at the Saints and they're basically all out of players, but the kid hasn't been performing all that well at VFL level (4 disposals last time it was reported on their club website, but in defence... no room in the forward line at the Saints?). In his case it's hard to claim hard done by.

So JUH is the only player who hasn't been injured (edit: he's been injured, per posts from the dogs fans in the thread) in the top 17 who hasn't debuted... I can absolutely see him being ribbed a bit by his mates/family/team mates/others that got drafted with him about not having played a game yet.

It's not hard to conclude that he would be itching to play, and therefore not hard to see why Edmund might suggest that he's not happy at the dogs (whether it's true or not, it's a bit like going to a fortune teller... an easy guess).

It is odd that JUH hasn't played though as there are only two other players in last years top 10 who have not played (Hollands and DGB) and both of them were because of injury.

In fact only 5 players drafted in the top 20 have not played so far. JUH, Hollands, Grainger-Barras, Pedlar and Angwin.
He injured his thumb after his first couple of games, came back and got concussed on his 2nd game back. Not sure how it's odd, he simply doesn't have anywhere near the match fitness required and our forward line is the best performing in the competition as it is

Ah, so he has been injured. 🤣 Yep that definitely sounds like a fishing expedition from Edmund then.

No doubt itching to play and dogs fans would be disappointed if he wasn't I would think, but it is a massive jump from that to what Edmund is suggesting.

It really isn't that far to jump, if you start with the idea that if he'd gone to a cellar dweller instead of the club that's currently second on the ladder, he most likely would've debuted without the match fitness requirement to break into a top side. Especially if other clubs are in his ear.

It goes from "I wonder what JUH is feeling right now, got these clubs asking the question and he hasn't told them to **** off, still hasn't debuted, mates probably carrying on a bit about that." and then just like the old Telephone game we played as kids, it becomes "JUH considering his options because he hasn't debuted".

A decent reporter should at least do their homework and print a retraction/apologise when they're wrong, rather than rumour mongering though.

How do these ******* journalists get away with just making sh*t up ?

Textbook Clickbait as I say.
It's how they and their News Corpse paymasters make their coin these days.

Refusal to play him? Missed an entire years footy, injured his hand, then got concussed, then the vfl was suspended due to COVID. He hasn’t played for well over a month.

I meant it is a bit of a jump from JUH to go from itching to playing to demanding a trade. Agree it is rather straightforward (although rather crappy) for a journo to make that jump
