As announced in the members email, Bennell will head up the Indigenous development portfolio and also head the Indigenous affairs program.

Ex-AFLPA player welfare manager, this is a good get.

Comes to us from the AFLPA as Indigenous Relationships Manager, so there's little doubt he likely has a lot of familiarity with the recent race issues at the club. Sad to lose Brady Gray initially, but Bennell seems like a very capable replacement.

This is a fantastic appointment, has some great experience in the space since his retirement and still quite young in the scheme of things.

Still having issues with receiving member emails though after repeated contact with the club fml

Fantastic.

Young enough (33) to really connect with the playing group. Was more than handy as player at Melbourne and WCE, and had some really good mentors.

Might be one of our most important signings of the decade.

This is one area that we must get right. We've had a troubled history as a club and just as I thought we turned the corner in the 21st century it came all crashing down. Need to do better.

You would assume a full time role that is just for Indigenous employees and club connections, not a side of coaching.

To have oversight across the league and their practice, to have respect across the league is the bolstering you would expect from the club.

To make his mark in clubland can hopefully see Jamie build a culture and programs like Port Adelaide are famous for.

Jamie will bring what he can do, lets hope the club takes every word he says seriously and this means a genuinely applied RAP and an Indigenous board member are two areas that can see HFC grow.

Good luck Jamie.
