The difference being Anzac / remembrance is about remembering what our service women and men did to retain our free way life. Not dwelling or lamenting on.You could call it the Australian paradox, on January 26 we're told to move on and not dwell on the past yet a couple of months later on ANZAC Day we're solemnly instructed to never forget. It must be a touch confusing to newcomers.
Australia day is viewed by some in lament/ dwelling/ brooding from what the colonials did.
And this is where the push back comes from. Everyone acknowledges the wrongs of the past and that this day reminds of the hurt.
But Jan and Joe public can't do anything about the past. Yes change the date, but is anyone gonna forget the abhorrent colonisation? Not on your Nelly! Lament will continue regardless
