Can't believe I forgot about this track mate, otherwise I'd have used it myself! So f***ing brilliant. And so f***ing true :thumbsu:

I know this is generally the behaviour of disreputable Collingwood fans with anger management issues, but Kennett is someone I'd happily push into a bin.

Kennett represents the absolute opposite of the values and principles Jim always stood up for throughout his life, that's for sure.

Gave the track a listen. Forgive me if I don't make up my mind on the back a bloke swearing loudly, whilst offering no political insight and comparing what Hitler did to the 'Yids' to Jeff Kennett as Premier. Sydney is full of w***ers, gotta give him that ;).

Gave the track a listen. Forgive me if I don't make up my mind on the back a bloke swearing loudly, whilst offering no political insight and comparing what Hitler did to the 'Yids' to Jeff Kennett as Premier.

A reading of major policy actions taken by the Kennett government while they were in office is enough.

Know that we shouldn't stray too far into politics on this board, but since we're talking directly about Kennett, I think it's probably reasonable to mention again at this juncture - the closure of over 350 schools and sacking of 80,000 people, including 8000 teachers, the distribution of $33 billion in public assets to private contractors, many of said contractors being Party mates, outsourcing of emergency services call handling to Intergraph (also Liberal mates, as 'donors' of long standing), amongst other disastrous 'outsourcing' decisions, with that particular action directly costing people's lives, his campaign against the Auditor-General for daring to investigate improprieties involving him and his government, and the Crown Casino affair.

And his stuffing around with public transport and the $2 billion CityLink white elephant, amongst other things.

"We ought to be giving consideration to a strong Melbourne brand, and I think that is a combination of the North Melbourne and the Melbourne club," Kennett said on 3AW today. "I think it would make a lot of sense. Both are in need of a lot of support. It's not to say that things don't change over time. [But] North Melbourne as a geographic base isn't as strong as it used to be."

J.Kennett, April 2012, here

EDIT: oh, and this doozy

Even Kennett's own club Hawthorn, now a big successful operation largely part to his efforts, might not exist in own right today, had Kennett had his way in 1996 when Hawthorn was trying to broker a merger with Melbourne.
"Based on the information I have, I still say, as a Hawthorn supporter, a merge is the best option," Kennett said at the time.

From the same article

Calm down.

He's a very divisive figure, but we're a club in crisis.
Schwab was a divisive figure as well, they're not good for a club in crisis. We need a strong leader, but we also need to be united internally and externally. Kennett is not our man

Boy was i sad when i heard of Jeffs interest and believe me ive spent two days now fighting this feeling but its got the best of me...i cant think of anyone better. He said tonight that Melbourne MUST survive (so that eased my mind) and i couldn't care less if he barracks for Melbourne or not. Bottom line is Jeffs a winner with a huge ego, do you really think he'd want to be known as the guy who destroyed Melbourne or prefer to be heralded as its saviour... his ego could just be the very thing we need. I think all clubs, but especially ours need to get away from thinking only a supporter can lead the club, thats total bullshit and we'd be waiting forever to find a Dees supporter good enough, ive been turned... i want him in.

Just heard Jeff Kennett speaking with Neil Mitchell on 3AW. He claims to have been approached by an unnamed group of 5 MFC members who have asked him to join them in replacing the current board, with Jeff as club president. He claimed to be extremely keen to do it as he saw it as an irresistible business challenge and was calling on Melbourne supporters to rise up and demand change.

Now I have to say that on a personal level I don't like Jeff Kennett, but there's no denying that he has a record of achieving whatever he sets out to do. Don McLardy was thrust, almost unwillingly, into the job and I believe he's always seen himself as a stop gap president until someone better could be found. I really don't think we could do better than Kennett whose hands on determined methods could really turn things around, not just in the short term, but with lasting effect.

What do others think? Please try to balance the anti Kennett vitriol with reasoned debate :D

There is no denying he is an achiever.

He could provide the kick start a turn around needs.

Good luck (as a port supporter, I know how frustrating it is).

Jeff’s a divisive figure alright but I would hope even the people who don’t mind him (like me), let alone the people who aren’t a fan of his personality/politics and are automatically anti-Jeff, would see why we shouldn’t have him as president – PRESIDENT – of our club.

Jeff’s appealing because he represents someone who’d get things done, ‘make us relevant again’ by turning heads, and stand up for things – all things we want now more than ever given the massive hole we’re in and that we’ve all reached slit our wrists territory. And those things’d of course be great. And most of us can agree too that serious change is needed at least at some level of the club to get things on track again, and we SHOULD make serious change of some sort. But what are we actually considering at the moment?

It’s so long ago now it’s hard to do but remember when we were actually genuinely proud to support the Dees? Genuinely goes-without-saying proud, as in if someone told you that you supported a shit club you’d laugh at them and wouldn’t have 5% let alone 50% of your brain telling you it might just be true. So not even really 2008 v Freo, but 2006 Elimination final, 2000 qualifying final, throughout the 90s, etc. Soak up that feeling first and then remember that over the last few years Jeff has OVER AND OVER AGAIN shown that deep down he has an active dislike/hatred of our club. Just off the top of my head he completely trashed us during our 150th celebrations and has always suggested (even last year) that we should merge, relocate to the gold coast, etc. So first you’ve got the fact that deep down he doesn’t give two shits about the club. Fine. But that fact alone would, for me, be more than enough reason for him to never be PRESIDENT (!) of the MFC.

But then you’ve got the IMPLICATIONS of our president, deep down, not giving two shits about what happens to the club all while we’re at our lowest ebb. Step back and think about it for a second, Jeff at Melbourne wouldn’t be any Eddie at Collingwood, Ian Dicker at Hawthorn, or even Jeff at Hawthorn, because he simply won’t give a flying **** if he ***** up. EVEN if he was to put his active dislike of the club to one side, it’ll just be a ‘management challenge’ with no passion (as he said, he’s just interested in the Melbourne ‘brand’ because of how it reflects on the city). Then you combine that with his personality. OF COURSE someone with a huge ego and “getting things done” personality who doesn’t submit easily could be great but only if they ultimately care about what they’re doing and the potential repercussions! If we ever went under/relocated (even if he wasn't pro-merger, which he is) do you think when the dust settled he’d even give a shit? Of course he wouldn’t. I don’t mind Jeff at all. Didn’t mind his guest fill-in spot on Footy Classified the other month either. Would I let him run our great club though? Of course not. And I hope that those who aren’t already on the same page stop being blinded by the idea of a ‘Jeff for us’ and realise what we’d really be getting. Let’s hold our nerve and wait for the right option

Get him in Dees supporters.

People change and even moreso they change thier minds.

Pay attention to what Kennett is saying NOW. He doesn't want the club that bears the name of the city he loves, the iconic club of the game he loves, to fail.

And neither do I.

Something's got to change.

Agree, this is dangerous. People are hitting the panic button so hard they are breaking it.

PJ will sort out this mess. We don't need Kennet. The irony that people are actually considering him.

If Kennett gets in control of Melbourne I would seriously consider not renewing my membership. This is the bloke who called for us to relocate to Gold Coast 3 years ago and last year called for us to merge with North Melbourne. Now there is talk of him taking over us, and people agree he should, are you ****ing serious?

The bloke sold all of the states assets, sold Hawthorns games to Tasmania, I shudder to think what he would sell of ours.

I can't tell if they are just being objectionable for the **** of it or if they really are so incredibly stupid. Either way, if these fools vote him in I will not be renewing anything other than my Port Melbourne membership.

I wonder if people have different views to my own. Could they be reasonable?

In this case, no. There are some non-negotiables in life. This is one of them.

If you seriously think Kennett would be good candidate, you need your head checked, or you need to do some real research in to this dangerous man.

there is no doubt he is a turkey but are his achievements luck or did he have nothing to do with the successes?

As president of the Hawks? I don't know. But clarko was instrumental and his biggest detractor was this idiot.

As a premier? Evil campaigner ****ed up a lot of people's lives. Robbed the state blind for his friends and if he tries it on my club I will kick his arse.

It is hard to judge a guy like Kennett from WA. We just see the results (which looks good) and not the journey or the detail (which sounds bad).

Thanks!
