When drafted this naturally gifted athlete was mentioned as a long term prospect for FF. With his exceptional speed, agility and leap he seems to have a number of physical attributes that would enable him to play there. He is also a booming kick

He has been on our list for 2 years and in 2004 came from West reserves to end up playing over 10 games - showing promise in a few. He also made some shocking mistakes (dropped mark whilst unattended in goal square at Gabba in 1st qtr ) and certainly his toughness and decision making will need to improve (Alan Stewart to hopefully earn his money here)

Is Jericho our long term answer at FF/FP? Others have mentioned playing him on the wing - I am not so sure. His skills and decision making are more likely to be found out in this position

What other options have we for FF medium-long term?

Welsh is real quality but mid age and injury prone
Hentschel has talent but perhaps more likely half forward floater (Hird type)
Krueger is a complete unknown (talent at AFL standard and injuries).
Watts is a born CHF
Bock needs to prove his (many) doubters that he is up to any possie

Crystal ball I know but medium-long term I think Jericho is as good a chance as any on our current list as being our main leading forward. With the attributes I mentioned above and his big improvement this year, I feel he still has as much upside as basically any of the other names mentioned above, with the exception of Watts.

Thoughts?

Jericho would be better suited to a wing I believe, pace and long kicking.

Just doesn't have the ability to contest to be a viable long term option at FF IMO - I'd hope for Krueger to be FF, and Watts to be CHF in the long run.

I don't think jerico is big enough to be a constant danger at full forward. Maybe the odd pinch hitting roll.

I would like to see him play at least some footy on a half back flank. It would help him develop some disipline, let him run straight at the ball & we could use the dash coming out of the back half.

Agreed with one exception - is it that he doesn't have the ability or is it the hardness at the ball that he lacks to play FF ??

Sorry, hardness. Physically, with a bit of strength work, he could certainly play the part.

I can't believe he's not butter!

As soon as I saw Jericho I thought he would be ideal to be played out of FF.
Obviously he needs to build up his frame but his pace and what seems to be an accurate kick is well suited to FF.

In the few games I have seem him play he seems to of been playing on the HFF and he looked a bit out of depth and fumbled too many times and Im not sure if he will have the cool head required to play up the ground.

For mine he just looks like a natural forward and should remain there. I agree with DT that Kruegs would be a great acuisition (sp?) at FF and possible have Jericho as a FP and a replacement for Scott Welsh when he gives it away.

Does Jericho have the footy smarts to play on a wing? His decision making appears worse than Burton's. Appears to have natural forward instincts & good shot for goal, so probably better suited to a forward flanker type role.

Smarts maybe not, but he's quick and has a sensational long and direct leg - unlike Burton's which although long, is more like a rainbow.

Jericho for the wing. Let's make it happen.

Reilly & Goodwin should be our starting wingmen in 2005, but I have no issue with Jericho being part of the rotation, as long as he can improve on his decision making. We cannot afford too many dumb decisions in the midfield.

I don't care where he plays as long as he becomes more aggressive. If you could install a bit of hardness in him he could be a very good player for us.

He looked very timid this year IMO. However, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt because of his age. This excuse won't save him in 2005 onwards though.

Hey Hey go easy people - kids first year of any type of senior footy, AFL or SANFL and we're expecting ..... what ... a champion in his first year???

Got faults - sure has - but lets take age and experience with him as a big factor, and judge him at the end of 2006.
The reality 2nd year blues could see him go backwards this year.

Well said.

I think people need to back of a little and not be as judgemental. Sure he has a few flaws in his game but for ********s sake its his first year of senior footy at ANY level. The fact that he came from SANFL reserves and U19 (last year) to AFL seniors and playes some very good games is a great achievement. He is only 19 and still has a lot of development ahead of him. Judge him at the end of 2006. He still has the potential to be a start. His career is in his own hands. If he wants it he will more than make it. If he doesn't he will be a BIG flop.

Showed plenty I reckon, and hopefully will continue to improve. Probably lacks the size for FF, so HFF looks the best option for him.

Hentschel came to the club as a FF, and with a bit more size and AFL experience may develop into a very good FF for us.

Krueger is an unknown. A make or break (bad word to use for a player so injury prone) year for him, he will really need to show something. I'm looking forward to having a look at him so have fingers crossed he stays sound.

I don't think too many are critical of Jericho for his ability - he's a very naturally talented young man who could be anything.

On the other hand he just doen't attack the ball or the man hard enough - 1st year player or 10 year veteran, that's a must in my book.

You're right, it's in his hands. Harden up his approach and he will be a star. Stay as soft as he is and he'll fade into obscurity.

My guess is that he'll harden up.

His physical size is that of a first year player - he will bulk up, is taller than Modra. Could play FF but I probably prefer him as a HFF.

Can play the FF role but again his agility for a kid of his size is a major weapon more exploited out further from goal.
The attraction of a future HF line of Hetschell , Watts and Jericho is mouthwatering ;)

Fingers crossed we need his bulk and aggression

Went to training in Picciones first year at the Crows and the way he tried to always take the ball one handed to the side of his body made me cringe. Kept saying to myself grab the bloody thing with two hands and stop lairising.

Sad to say Jericho reminds me a lot of what I saw that day - hope his character is different and the flaw can be ironed out quickly.

Point taken regarding his hardness BUT we also have to take into the account his body shape. Put 10 kgs on him and you will see completely different attact at the ball from him. With more bulk comes more confidence and with more confidence you get more hardness.

Lets not forget what Peter Burgoyne was like when he first started and look at him now.

good point regarding burgoyne, I think people are overly harsh on Jericho give him another year to develop by 06 if he isnt tough at the ball kicking 1 goal a game get rid of him. - saying that you do need receivers in a team !!

As for Kruger is there realistically a chance he will get a game ? every time his name comes up so does the injury that he is currently suffering from, make Craig needs to be tough with him as well !

Jeez, wouldnt have thought that, but there you go.

IMO he is a natural forward and should play the bulk of his footy in the forward half. I think he will bulk up a bit and will improve his attack on the ball and the man. I think he is going to be a real good one. Another Westies lad, another real quality player of the future. He reminds me a bit of Mods and a bit of Scotty Welsh. There is something about Westies players and the Crows.

He has got a long way to go in my book. Just cant imagine him lining up against the likes of Scarlett, Michael etc. I think this may be a dream that will never be realised.

Can we get that in writing Stiff. I don't see too much natural aggression there.

Jericho in 2002, S Stevens in 2003, which "hard nut" will we recruit this year?
I better dust off the old D Gallagher duffle coat.

Ben Marsh could be available :)

As for young Jericho well like others it's not his all-round footy ability that i question but his attitude & how large his head can grow.

But like Stiffy says he's only young & 04 was his first year at AFL football so hopefully someone can get into his head & shove him in the right direction.
