Really, really hoping we take Smith in the PSD (Providing his ankles aren't completely crocked). He's a potential superstar and would offer a lot more than Ball.

Forget Ball's average kicking and snail-pace, Smith is the complete package. Tall, fast, strong, courageous and a great kick.

his ankles ARE completely rooted. ball brings a far better all round package to the club than smith and would be a real coup for the club.

He's also completely stuffed physically.

Ball>>>>>>Smith

Didn't Geelong put Smith through a medical which he ended up failing?

If Ball is in the PSD we have to take him but I am not overly concerned if we miss out on him. I have a few reservations based on why the Saints didn't play him as much.

I think Ball is to stuffed to pick up, his groins are that rooted he can only kick 30 metres with no penatration and can only play 60% of a game wouldnt be picking him up.

Smith has huge upside but no point paying someone 200 000 to sit in the injury room

Well they are, and so are his hamstrings :thumbsd:

Are you basing this on the game time he was playing at St Kilda? Because this has nothing to do with fitness, this was more to do with what Ross Lyon was trying to get out of Ball & a large reason why Ball wants to change clubs, because of a lack of game time.

No he doesn't have a huge penetration in his kicking (30m is being unfair though), but the highlights of his game are his clearances & tackling, he averaged almost 6 tackles a game & was top 20 overall in the league for total tackles from 20 games, but number of games doesn't account for game time, which we all know was quite low.

Smith has plenty of positives & i really rate him when he can get on the park, but i'd have to take Ball ahead of him.

Smith failed Collingwood's medical test as well supposedly, although so did SJ.

Dude, having your username must suck arse... Surely you can get it changed?

Same with my username... although it has been that way for a few years now:o.

I think you get Ball to replace Mclean - looks like you do a straight swap and get 11.

Also, Jesse's hamstrings are bad because of his gait which has changed due to his ankle. Jesse will have to manage his ankle injury for the rest of his footballing career. Not sure where Ball is at.

Not to have a dig, but maybe this occurrence of "failing" a medical test at collingwood is just that they don't satisfy collingwood's specific medical requirements, ie collingwood are not prepared to take a risk but like SJ they're still a chance to manage the injuries & be a very good player.

In saying that, proven ability vs potential vs risk with Smith & Ball, i'd have to take Ball.

And yeah, thanks for pointing out the obvious. A few people have suggested the same & the mods seem to all ignore it. C'mon mods, any chance of a change?

This is an absolutely horrendous call.

Smith has played about 3 good games for his career, and has spent more time in the medical rooms than Dr. Peter Larkins.

Ball is an AA player, despite his injury troubles, and is still reletively young as well.

There really is no comparison.

Having said that, I don't think Smith is a bad option, he could turn out to be a very good player, I just rate Ball ahead of him if we have the choice, and by some margin.

Well supposedly we aren't the only club he failed with, so take from that what you will. Not forgetting that NM were only willing to offer him a one year contract, so they are obviously only prepared to take the risk to a certain degree.

No problems, just thought I'd give you the heads up in case you hadn't noticed :p
