For me it'll be one eye on Acres and the other on Sinclair. Sinclair in particular I reckon there's a spot in the forward line up for grabs and I'd love to see him take it.

I think that spot is Wrights to lose atm, Lonie doesn't have the size, watching him bounce off those Port players after 3 years confirms that, Wright isnt your crumbing fwd pocket but his size, speed and defensive pressure sure does the team well, plus he seems to kick a goal pretty regularly.

Sinclair is fighting it out with Billings and Gresham for that fwd, mid role imo. It's certainly awesome to see so many spots being fought over.

I never said Dermotts comment reflected Hawthorn's view in fact I argued the opposite if you want to know my inside sources

Hawthorn eyes exciting Brisbane ruckman Billy Longer

Saints land want-away Lions ruckman Longer

or
Hawks still keen on Longer

My judgement on the veracity of Dermotts comment was based on the fact it came out of his mouth
I have no idea what you think any of that proves. I'm extraordinarily well aware that Hawthorn were into Longer, but Hawthorn (and us) being into him doesn't in any way prove that what he said about some clubs view on him is untrue.

You on the angry pills this year ARR? Getting wound up about football opinions is a short road to giving yourself a heart attack.:)
I guess I'm just not in the mood to be taking any crap and if I see someone writing it, especially if they're saying it directly to me, then I'm probably going to call them out on it.

This also wasn't a "football opinion" that I was arguing against, it was someone being misrepresented. In this case, Brereton.

I've seen it 3 different times since the game now where what he said on various topics during the game has either been twisted, misrepresented, or straight out lied about and I know it's the in thing to do on here to get stuck into him, but I reckon if anyone wants to be taking shots at him, or anyone else, they at least ought to do it about things they've actually said.

This place has an unhealthy obsession with the guy!

He's hard to follow what he's on about because he often scats crap and hope some sounds relevant. I actually don't hate everything he says and he can be quite good at seeing things others don't. His idea that the teams like hawthorn were artificially aided in being up the top due to GWS and Gold coast were both humble and not so obvious. His self righteous vibe puts people off him I think. Anyway don't take it too seriously I'm sure Bremerton has had worse than being misrepresented on a footy forum.

As others have said when Lonie has the ball, he usually creates something out of nothing that not many players can do (that set up in the first). The problem is however, he is only ever really in the game a few minutes each quarter which simply isn't good enough.

Needs to find a way to get into the game and also become a lot stronger when sticking his tackles as players all too often seem to break them. At the moment is behind 3 or so players for that last spot with Long yet to show what he can do.

Yep - not that I don't mind Wright but I'd be happier if some one takes that position of him - and I mean takes the position off him.

Lonie/Sinclair/Minch all have much better best goal sense than Wright but they need to up their defensive pressure (Sinclair/Minch can also rotate through the centre)

I don't view Dermott as a credible witness some people agree some disagree.

I don't feel I misrepresented Dermott and find it ironic as you have twice seemed to ignore or misrepresent my statements and I dislike your appeal to ignorance as it implies that only ITK can comment after apparently ringing every club to check.

To my knowledge there isn't collaborating articles about Longer picking contests with most positive about his on field application some do question his focus during training and the off season.

If you can provide evidence collaborating Dermotts statement then I will happy reconsider my judgement but in its absence I will continue to consider any statement sighting unnamed individuals from an unreliable author with scepticism.

Will be a much different team this week, a few boys are resting and hopefully all of Acres, Webster and Sinclair in. I'd love a look at Rice and White amongst others too.
If you're not in the last JLT team vs Swans then you're not playing Round 1 it seems.

Yep the swans game will be the R1 team unless we get injuries or the players that are borderline completely stink it up. Should be a cracking contest with pretty much most players fighting for spots.

Lonie will be OK. I'm not interested in writing off a lightly built 20 year old just yet. He needs more work, but the games where he's getting mid-20's disposals and kicking 2+ goals in the VFL (which he did multiple times in 2016) will eventually convert to AFL level, he just needs to show enough improvement in the mean time to keep himself in front of the selectors.

Would like to see this team line up.
FB: Geary Brown Rice
HB: Webster Carlisle White
C: Acres Dunstan Billings
HF: Weller Bruce Sinclair
FF: long McCartin Battle
R: Longer Steele Stevens

Int: Hickey McKenzie Coughlan Phillips O'Kearney Wright Minchington Gilbert

Depth is pretty good...

all three have one thing in common. they'd throw them selves in front of a moving truck for the team

acres is like longer IMO he's picking and choosing when he plays physical and when he goes

I don't think Longer ever picks and chooses when to play physical. That's never been an issue. He has though suffered from picking and chooses when to work hard enough to get to contests. I remember Max Gawn saying after a seconds game that Longer was very lazy during the game and I think that has been a knock on him.

Apparently according to my Mother 'Dermott Brereton has aged very very badly.' That would probably offend him more than any bagging of his commentary.

LONG. WE NEED TO SEE LONG!!!!

Will be an interesting game, hopefully the younger boys are given game time to prove they can rub out games. Big game for sinclair, acres, Webster imo.

Can't wait to see the 23rd man brigade in action. Almost more interesting than the Port game.
Even though it's only a practice match there's plenty to play for.
All of them should be jumping out of their skins.

With surprises and disappointments to come, the melts on here will be delicious.
My best guess: Ben Long will impress.
