Port are definitely a contender

Mid depth , Howard coming on nicely and a bit more finishing skill which was main weakness

Right now. No they aren't a contender, they are just a mid table team that have tried to buy their way into being a contender.

We don't know if they are until mid to late season, to say so earlier is just getting sucked in by a side on paper (which is worth sweet **** all.)

Mods don't delete any posts out of this thread. Everyone else, make sure you bookmark it. Might come in major handy, a thread about a preseason game on the crows board where the pages after the game finishes contain nearly 50% port posters gloating. Its got delicious karma written all over it.

After this I think -

The locks:
Talia, Laird, Doedee, Brown, Kelly
Sauce, Sloane, Mrouch, Gibbs, RAt, Douglas, Seed
Lynch, Betts, Guv

Given past history, Looking likely even though they were shit:
JJ, Hartigan

Gotta be a chance:
CEY, Murphy, Fogarty

That's 20 - 6 backs, 8 Mids+Ruc, 6 Fwds

Wait on tomorrow:
Milera, Gallucci, Polholke

Injury permitting:
Tex, Brouch.

Leaving from today:
Mackay, Hampton, Gibson, Keath

Why not ??? ....a sound midfield....great ruckman....hard running defenders and Dixon and Watts up forward ???
Credit where it's due ....this year shapes up as the biggest chance yet of a Port / Adelaide GF

Right now, the exposed form Port has is they stagnated as a mid table side under Hinkley, and one who didn't fire a shot against top 8 sides.

To jerk them off now, and call them a contender because they recruited some players is just setting yourself up to look foolish (and there were plenty of signs, especially in the first half that indicate Port aren't an improved side). Let Port prove they are a contender first.

Edit - Cameron and Smith

We lacked speed . Our forward line is a real concern and pressure forward of centre is key
Hampton, Knight & Gallucci playing should apply plenty of pressure. Problem is 2 are not ready yet.

Hartigan is in your best 22 .. so what does that say about your best 22 ?
Yet he has stitched you guys up in the showdowns over the past couple of years, including the awesome Robbie Gray.... but yeah, get excited about the JLT to make your informed opinions lol.

Gloating after a JLT game. That’s got to be a new level of stupidity.

Yep , missed smiths transition badly . Need to play dougy or Milera there round 1

Lacked speed all over , I would parachute Milera in
Thought Douglas played well across HB in the first half... but gather he didn't okay back much in the second half?

Out of all the players of you to think are good and bad, I’m surprised you put Gibson in the good basket.

He’s mediocre, nothing player that wins the hard ball and hacks it forward. A depth player in a top 4 quality side, nothing more and he showed exactly that today.
All the good things that Gibson did today were undone within an instant.

Why would we switch off against Port?
Regardless of opponent, we switched off.

Credit to Port, they played very well and exposed a tall defence and a non-existent forwardline. We have issues to solve there's no doubt, but to hang our hat on today is silly

Had to have a laugh at some of the pear supporters at the game celebrating like it was a regular seaaon game...

Also, how good is the fog?!? Going to be a gun
The flog on the Alan Scott wing laughing and asking about our GF loss. Not only did he not squeak a peep before half time but mate its a pre-season game. The GF result means nothing now. It only hurts if there is no return to the GF

Should be used as a big body tagger and that’s about it.

You’d hope given his fitness levels he can maybe get on his bike when win the ball back, and work his opponent over offensively. Should be looking to either run into space and be a link in the chain, and hopefully execute a simple kick to a forward running out the back, or at lest run hard enough to really open up the ground and create space for our mids to run into the corridor.

It’s a pretty simple game plan, but that’s really the only areas I can see him being effective in for us.

Seedsman and Atkins are going to need to put in good seasons, as I don’t think Gibson and Mackay are going to provide us much on the outside.
