JON might be ok ya know

watched a bit of yesterdays burgers grilling of the pies and I have to admit JON has improved in leaps and bounds from where I lhad written him off. In a couple of months he has shown rapid progress....Id continue to leave him at Coburg for another month to let him build some further confidence and then give him a run in 2H of season. Tall wingman, he could be a good prospect after all...as mentioned on another time, going a bit better than a couple drafted around him , so Miller bashers, put down your guns:eek:

when he gets the gig in the 1s, i will get back to you..with the ok ya know part..;)

Lmao @ you only seeing the first quarter then saying he,s out of his depth. His past 2 games is a far improved effort to suggest he may have turned the corner.

IT'S called honesty. By all reports he was good....there are quite a few people's opinion on here I value.
My point, I'm basing my opinion at this stage on what I have seen JON dish up in his seven or whatever it is - certainly fewer than 10 - senior games and about 10 or so games at Coburg previously.
Yr entitled to your opinion, but I'd like to see a bit more than a god effort against Collingwood 2s before I start saying JON has turned the corner and is going to make it. From what I have seen in game';s past he is out of his depth. That's not to say he won't eventually make it, he may well and I hope he does.
But for what it's worth, there's a certain much maligned player who left Richmond for St Kilda a few years ago. You know who I am talking about! From where I sit, JON would need to improve considerably if he is going to get anywhere near the 78 games played by that same maligned player did at Tigerland and the near 70 more he has with the Saints.
All I am calling for is a little perspective. A good game against a rabble like Collingwood 2s is hardly watershed stuff. I would want to see that type of effort week in, week out before I am convinced.

A rabble like the Pies has nothing to do with it.Id be worried if he didnt play a good game if thats the case.Fact of the matter is he actually performed well in the 1st half when the Pies were at least giving a contest. Its all to do with confidence,Something thats been missing previously with JON.

LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOO Bo ... a feel good thread on JON

I will give you the scenario

You have picked up the $8 bunch of Chrysanthemums from the Rowville Florist yesterday .... got up early this morning with the kiddies and given the dearly beloved a lovely cooked breakfast in bed (Baked Beans on toast is about all you could muster) ... and in her joy at such heavenly treatment she has packed the younglings into the loungeroom in front of "Dora the Explorer" and you have just been on the end of some very rare and wonderful morning glory .....

And once that was over we have hit the Keyboards with a smile on your face for a job well done and a belly full of good will :thumbsu:

sorry idy, forgot to correct you on that bit to, my morning glory is about as regular as rain in Death Valley:o...and Mothers day was no drought breaker

I went to last years VFL GF and other then the atrociouse quality of this game and poor delivery by everyone on the field I caught a glimpse of the future of JON he came running through the middle of the ground at a great rate of knots and hit a guy on the chest in the forward 50 with a beautiful pass was one of the few highlights of the day.

i thought we had moved on from the good old deluded culture. You know that one? The one that had tiger heads in here, singing the praises of a player, because they once saw sometnhing and they were waiting to see it again. Because they were waiting to see it, they forgot to look at the 1000 and 1 ____ ups that unfolded in the mean time, from that player. Get with the program dude.
This is what you need to do to get a game now:

JON was running through the middle of the ground at a great rate of knots and hitting guys on the chest in the forward 50 with beautiful passes, time after time and those were some of the many highlights that JON provided.

Whats this stupid ridiculous once shit?? FFS, wake up.

once is fangtastic when its: "i saw him a mstake once". ;)

settle petal....

Given that the game had nearly no highlights and kick after kick landed short of everyone this one bit of action impressed me because of the fluid run.

Im not saying give him a game based on this one play but I could see why they persist with him when so many learned souls, you included, are happy to moronically write players off after a few poor performances.

Strange how impressions differ. I was there aslo and thought it was his lowest hour. Mind you he had a lotta mates.

of course you know exactly what "moronic" means. I take it you practice it with gusto? You see have a good look at any post about JON by me and pinpoint where i write him off, and you might see how some people including you are just plain morons. ;)

seems to fit perfectly

what do you think it means?

Boy oh boy, there are some serious flogs on this thread.

Do you honestly think a player goes from totaly ret*arded to a good player?

JON may go from 0/10 to say 3/10 but that is about all we can hope for.
How many "good" AFL players started with as little idea as he has? have you ever seen anyone who has such poor awareness?

A few kicks in the VFL and everyone gets excited!.

He will be another Krakuoer who takes a spot on our list then gets delisted after 7 years and no-one wants him.

A total waste of time and resources and another Greg Miller special.

TW said he ( JON) would "silence his critics" this year.

LMAO!

I've seen him live only the once at a praccy game in Canberra - he moves really well. Thats it.

That's a huge sample size to be making judgements on then isn't it MH? ;)

He's only 20.....who cares. Masten, Morton, Palmer, Rioli, Ebert, Selwood, Ibbotsen, Gibbs, Luenberger, Armitage, Everitt, Brown, Jetta and our own Riewoldt, Edwards and Cotchin...these kids seem to step straight up! Yet everytime we draft someone they get five years for us to all say he'll eventually make it!! Rubbish!!!

Geez Goldie, half the players you list either haven't played enough to make the call (or in Cotchin's case, hasn't played at all), others have taken time and are nowhere near their best yet, and correct me if I'm wrong, but none are from the '05 draft - the players we should be comparing our selection of JON to.

We've dumped players early in their career because they don't have the right stuff between the ears. JON has ticked all the right boxes with his attitude and commitment, now he's showing the reward for effort.

JON's going to be a very good player. He won't get there tomorrow, but like Tambling, he has all the raw attributes required and will get there.

He'll be a third tall in the backline who cuts the opposition lines to shreds once he's fully mature.

LMAO! all the raw attributes except awareness, ability, skill and bravery.

Other than that, he has all the attributes! The next target he hits will be his first!

Just shows what a flog you really are Razor!

JON is probably a worse pick than Fiora.

I cannot see this kid developing into anything special anytime soon. I think the club got it very, very wrong with this kid :thumbsd:

Love to see him prove me wrong though...

Correction, Ibbotson was '05, but the talent is thin on the ground and mostly of types we have covered.

SOME pretty good quality taken before Oakley Nicholls, Rayzor ol' son!

Murphy, Thomas, Pendlebury, Ellis, Ryder...and i'll nominate Kennedy at West Coast as having shown more than JON.

As for players taken below him, you telling me JON has Birchall covered? Nathan Jones anyone? How about Sean Higgins? Ryan Gamble anyone? Bernie Vince? His Crows teammate Richard Douglas? Dylan Addison? Ibbotsonon? Rhan Hooper? Joel Patfull? I'll make cases for Mitchell Clark, McKinley, Hurn, Bower, Drum, Max Bailey, Clint Bartram. I'll even show you Cleve Hughes and raise you Matthew Sphanger and Trent West. each one of them has shown more.

Dowler aside, JON is the worst perfromed in that top 20 picks!

As I say, I wait to be proven wrong, but that selection is looking rather ordinary!!!

So what do you suggest we do?? Draft good players???? Well, why didn't you say so!

Point being, JON hasn't set the world on fire yet. He would know that, we know that. it was good though to see him show something.

Bucketing him won't get him more kicks.

Okay sorry....the kid is going to be a champion,. Definitely turned the corner the last two weeks in the ressies. Showing great signs.
By the end of it, he'll make the likes of Pendlebury, Thomas, Jones, Murphy, Birchall etc. look like Richmond players of the late 80s-early 90s....plain poor.
Look forward to JON cementing his Brownlow win with a second and possibly third win to put him up there with the likes of Robert harvey. I know he can do it. has all the attributes - pace, skill, awareness, courage, smarts!! You go young fella...do us all proud!!!
Desperately unlucky not to have played 40 plus games already! he's won me over!:thumbsu:
Nah wouldn't dare suggest we draft better players than him...there simply aren't any!

LMAO....reality is something that is hard to swallow hey GD?
Its like dont say anything, unless its good, because we dont want to know...

Let me decode it for the muppets here. When JON delivers, you will say you were wrong....until then you cant be wrong. ;)

I was wondering if you have ever actually contributed a positive post.
You don't go by the name of J A K Jak on sport 927 each morning with the gutless Richmond bagging SMSs
If you support the club support them otherwise could you at least try and make some of your posts constructive rather than destructive as they always seem to be

Sausage Role could learn off both you and GD Cogga.
At least when you have a go you have something to back up what you say and you generally leave the door open if what you say turns out to be incorrect.
You also offer up credit when it is due, unlike some.
