Toast Jonathan Brown appreciation thread

After last night, I hope Brownie has a press conference this week to announce his immediate retirement. Enough is enough.

There is too much we do not know about head injuries,& their long term impact -but more & more research is showing scary facts. His family needs him fit & well long term. We need him fit & well long term.

I know what he means to this team, & what this team means to him, but any playing contribution from now on will have no impact on our long term prospects. Give it away big fella, for your own good.

Tough decision for the big fella. We need him out there but if he decides to give it away nobody will blame him. He can't keep copping knocks in the head like he did last night. Must be really scary for him and his family.

:hearts:That was sad to watch last night.
Guess only he knows when he has had enough.
He owes us nothing, but owes his family to be in good health.
Too many head knocks is not so good .think it is almost time sadly.

Going to be his last year regardless, if there is no structural damage then I don't see why he can't play a few more.

If there is, why bother.

I understand people's sentiments here the only problem is Browny himself. An absolute warrior who has bled for this club time and time again. Last night I thought that's enough big fella and it hurt to see. Especially when he was being held up by the trainers and he was looking at one with absolutely no knowledge of where he was and I could see that from where I was sitting.

I agree, if he wants to and there is no lingering damage to be done, why not finish the year. He'd finish up at Geelong as well, would be a nice touch (he was drafted from the Geelong Falcons wasn't he?).

I reckon the 600 goal barrier might be something he was aiming for this year - I am sure it wasn't a reason to play on, but rather it would mean he would kick his 30 goals for the year and 600 was the reward.

If he still wants to play on, we make it clear that we aren't going to play him in games that are completely un-winnable for us now: Rd 14 - Fremantle, Rd 21 - Collingwood, Rd 22 - Fremantle, Rd 23 - Geelong.

Hopefully he can manage to string a few more games together, get 600 goals, and go out on a decent note. But if last night wasn't the last straw, his next big knock will be.

I reckon he will play out the year, but should only be for winnable games like said above. As much as people will say to him to not do what he does to prevent him getting hit like that, he won't listen. He is just that sort of person who wants to prove to his team he's still got it. But he doesn't need to prove anything anymore, he is already a champion.

If you said that to Browny he would tell you to get ****ed.

Round 22, Ross Lyon will likely send half a team over, and Browny can kick 8 in his last game at the Gabba, spearheading a comprehensive 10 goal win.

This has been my take on that match since the fixture was announced, I can only hope it happens!

Have you seen the Top of ladder? There are going to be two very unlucky teams who miss out on a double chance/Top 4. Fremantle are already a game behind the others, they don't exactly want to throw another away. They'd rest 1 or 2 players syre, but absolutely no more considering how the race for the Top 4 is going.

Up to him and the doc's. I personally would like to see him finish the year and get his 600 plus goals.

I would be very suprised if Brown doesn't play again - he would have to get some very bad unexpected news from the scans for that to be the case.

From his interview today it sounds like he is definitely having the Freo game off - although he would have anyway given the long trip and with his wife about to give birth again. He could even have the week after that off as well.

But he definitely indicated he wants to see out the year. Knowing Browny, that is exactly what he will do.

As for how multiple concussions can impact you in later life - obviously it is not good / increases your risk a fair bit, but it is nowhere near clear cut that it will definitely lead to something really bad. For every Greg Williams there are probably a hundred guys that don't get affected.

Alzeimers is becoming recognizable in younger people as a direct result of too many knocks/concussions for people who played contact sport.

Alzheimers is a disease with no connection to head knocks/concussion. There is a genuine risk in having head knocks/concussion but lets not confuse things in this way.
