Would have liked to have read more of that article, it seemed heavily edited/cut down for word length.

This part takes the cake:

"In his final year at school, he went for lunch each day at the pub but, as he informed the audience at the Emmanuel College function last year, the man-boy always wore his school tie out of respect for the school"

LOL.!!!!!!

Ironically I was just wondering why Chris Johnson has grown a beard just like Michael McManus.
hooly dooly. This is getting way out of hand! You are on to something no doubt. There is definitely one last twist to this whole browny retirement thing. Maybe we'll all wake up again and it'll be grand final day 2001...

Brown will be remembered as one of the greats. I'm a North Melbourne supporter living in Queensland so saw a fair bit of him playing at the Gabba. Always loved watching him ... except for when playing against North, of course.

Thank you Brisbane for giving Queensland AFL followers the chance to watch such a great talent.

Thank you Browny for everything you gave to the club and staying true to your Fitzroy roots. You're the last of my childhood heroes to retire and just like how my dad talks about how good the likes of Roos, Conlan and Quinlan were, your story will be told and your highlights will be shown to my future kids in the years to come.

Thanks Browny. Legend.

Hang around the club, big fella - always a Lion.

The Brisbane lions without Jonathan brown is like bacon without eggs. Still ****in delicious but not complete. Gonna miss ya big man <3

An absolute legend of the game. I just can not believe I will never watch him play at the Gabba again. I will definitely miss the small things like seeing him lead the team onto the field, the roar around the ground when he was named on the big screen before the match, his courageous marks and the huge roar that followed and the anticipation before he slotted a big goal from 50m. He is just a crowd favourite and he is a unique footballer but a top bloke as well.

My favourite Browny memory was watching him slot 10 goals against Carlton live at the Gabba in 2007. The roar around the ground when he marked the ball on 9 goals and went back and slotted goal number 10 was unbelievable. I love ya Browny:hearts::hearts::hearts::hearts:

:thumbsu: as a Port man Browney in the all conquering Brisbane 2001-2004 teams caused me premature grey hair and sleepless nights , no higher accolades when a man earns universal admiration and respect from opposition clubs and supporters , everyone would love Johno Brown causing mayhem in their forward lines.

Well done Jonathan on a exceptional career, brave, tough, highly talented, inspirational leader/team man, best of all a genuine top bloke and character of the game, a credit to his club, family and his self :thumbsu:, a chapter closes...now if only those 2001-2004 nightmares would stop:eek:

In the noughties it was something else to see the Brissy midfield in full flight and you could quickly tell that the young bloke they were kicking to at CHF was a genuine star. Simon Black and Jon Brown were always my favourite non-Freo players through the last decade. Above all though, Browny was the most courageous and toughest I've ever seen in fifty years - bar none! Glad to see he is going to stick around your club as well.
Most on this side of the country will be saluting him too. Cheers Browny!

A true leader - courageous and an Iron will. I enjoyed watching Browny lead the lions. He is a natural born leader...You will be mised and thank you for the memories
