I admit Fraser has taken time to get into the game, but I think this year he has shown why he was number 1 in the draft in 1999.

Yes he is. Whether that is enough for him to win the ruck in the finals I doubt however. He does seem to have Everitt's measure though. He has given him a few touch ups. I wish Josh was stringer overhead. He is a very soft mark above his head.

Everytime I see Josh with the ball I get mad and think we should have got Pavlich.
The issue wasn’t taking Fraser it was trading pick 3 for a bloke that at first glance offered nothing. Just a pathetic inexcusable decision.

Along with Lade, Simmonds and Cox, he's been one of the premier ruckmen of the competition this year. Back to his absolute best.
No he hasn’t. His last fortnight has been excellent both in the ruck and around the ground but by and large this year he has been very good around the ground but beaten in the ruck. It is the right time to be hitting his straps in the ruck though. He was taken to the cleaners by Sandilands 3 weeks ago though.

We should point out as Collingwood supporters that Fraser isn't your certified ruckman, he is a follower in the Moore frame. Whether he has shown why he was number 1 in the draft in 1999 is irrelevant, besides, he is a very good footballer.

He has had a good year and has shown, he can match it with the best ruckman in the game eg spider cox. and he is averaging 17 disposals a game. If u look at all the ruckmans stats he is right up there.

But again, let's not lose sight of the fact that WE TRADED AWAY PICK 3 FOR STEVEN MCKEE AND DANNY ROACH WHEN WE COULD HAVE HAD PAVLICH!!!!!!!!!!

Imagine the Pies forward line in it with Rocca, Tarrant, Bucks, Dids, Cloke (T) and Pav... We would have got the flag in 03

Or he could have played CHB!!!!!

AAAAARRRRRRRGHGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

Why cant ppl get over the whole Pav/McKee/Roach thing. Hindsight makes anything look bad. Who knew how good Pav would be back then?
exactly, richmond & freo also overlooked the pav with thier first choices!!

we tried to fix a weakness that we had in the ruck, and it didn't work........

but on fraser, luke darcy said on 3aw last week that if he continues his good form of late he will be pushing for AA selection..........fairly good effort when coming back from playing NO FOOTBALL in 2005! goes to show that other rucks obviously rate him highly too!

I believe the stats are against you:
Year No. Games Kicks Marks H.Balls Disp Goals Pts H.O. Tack
2000 25 21 142 67 94 236 5 7 185 40
2001 25 21 196 100 120 316 21 16 134 46
2002 25 25 185 83 84 269 37 23 146 48
2003 25 23 218 106 122 340 20 16 300 60
2004 25 18 194 95 81 275 17 17 236 43
2005 25 5 24 12 17 41 4 2 41 4
2006 25 16 165 121 101 266 14 16 244 34
Totals 129 1124 584 619 1743 118 97 1286 275

He played five games last year.
But I think he'll struggle to be an AA this, unless he's off the bench. He's not been the best 'ruckman' this year, although he has had some excellent games, and is usually better around the ground than his opponent.

Fraser is a poor mans ruckman.
Haha, worlds biggest tool has just appeared.

Fraser is one of the main reasons why we're right up there. Quality ruckman and easily in the best 5 ruckman and probably the most mobile of the 5. Next year when we get a decent ruckman to cover for him (HOPEFULLY), he'll dominate further because he'll rest in the forward line instead of the bench.

5 games!!

against st.kilda he sat at FF all day and could hardly run
next week against freo he looked ill and played about a quarter, similar story against the cats when c.cloke dominated in the ruck

he had no proper football at all last year

doing very well considering that, to be even mentioned as a candidate for AA by another leading ruck shows he is rated by the other ruckman, he will improve again next year too!

Fraser has had his best season in his career, which is great news coming back from a year he would like to forget. He has been extraordinary around the ground, Dean Cox like, and hasn't put in too many mediocre efforts in the ruck thus far. He said at the start of the season he wants to play ruck because he thinks he is capable of being a top class ruckman, and knows it is his position. He has succeeded and done enough to be worthy of a top 5 odd spot on the ruckmans list of the season.

Also, there was nothing wrong with trading our no.3 pick away. We got rid of it along with Clinton King, and gained Steve McKee and pick 7, who ended up being Danny Roach (yes) but Roach could've turned out to be a Pav, but he didn't, and we should forget that. McKee on the other hand was a vital cog that got his side to the Grand Final. He was superior in 2002 I thought, good enough anyway. Pav hasn't been a vital part of a GF side yet.

Mark, I think Josh and Sandilands wasn't a blow out. I think you'll find that Sandilands dominated over Davud Fanning, both around the ground and at the bounces.

Josh has had a great season and continues to improve as the season goes on. IMO he's in the top 5 ruckmen in the league. While he hasn't necessarily dominated in the ruck itself his work around the ground has been superior than most of the other candidates.

I'm telling you at $81 at the TAB I reckon he's a good value smokey for the Brownlow. Rucks traditionally poll well and he's had a great season to date. You heard it here first.:D

I don't know whether it's fitness, confidence or someone has blasted him or told him to do so, but lately he is actually using his athleticism and has confidence in his kicking. Instead of taking a mark and holding it up he seems to be running more, evading more and taking better kicks rather than the easy short free option.
His marking has improved and his rucking has improved to a slightly lesser extent. He still gets beaten but he has a relatively high % of tapouts to advantage, at least compared to most ruckman.
