Every LNP pundit saying "you have to balance the budget", the government then then rightly spends needed (and wrongly spends a lot of wasted) public money during the pandemic, now the conservatives screams about how we can't raise taxes to balance the budget.

Mind blowing.

The solution is simple to conservative. The only acceptable option to balance the budget is to reduce welfare spending.

Even more simple. They actually don’t care about balancing the budget other than as a political weapon to attack labor.
They want the keys to the treasury back so they can go back to stealing & rorting as much public money as possible.

Can start with blocking stage 3 tax cuts. Is easy target, it’s not actually taking money away (as cuts have not happened yet) so psychologically less impactful.

Half seriously an option is to limit transfers back to hospital of high care nursing home patients who cannot express themselves coherently.

I’ve got no problem with that

What happens if one of the Teals introduces a bill to rescind the looming tax cuts and Labor support it.

Blow the conservatives up.

It actually has to happen. Low income earners need money to survive this inflation spike and giving money to high income earners is simply stoking the inflation fire.

Does Labor have the courage?

If the Teals do it then they will ask their electorates directly to put their money where their mouth is. If you want things to be better, someone has to pay for it.

The pseudo-Libs ain't gonna repeal no high earners' tax cuts.

Then they are not serious.

We need a debate on this and Murdoch need to STFU.
we don’t need a debate on this. It’s not an LNP v Labor argument. If we cannot afford the tax cuts so be it. What you’ve never had you don’t miss.

Pity Labor didn’t have the courage to say “we won’t commit to tax cuts”.

no point being courageous pre election, but will be disappointed if they don't pull out the "budget black hole" excuse for a backflip.

Delay them, which is what the coalition did in effect

The country has been crying out for tax reform for years, the big end of town pays zero tax, with the country’s finances in ruins and the greens holding the balance of power now is the time to start the process.

It is an "LNP v Labor" argument.

If the tax cuts are cancelled, that is the LNP's entire election campaign for 2025. That is Sky News programming sorted for the next three years.

And herein lies the core problem with the LNP. They would rather see Australia burn (Hawaii literally) than engage in actual policy debate and in this case budget repair.

They literally don't care how much damage they do.

Isn't the AFL quite left wing in their thinking - this would be a very strange appointment.
What's his qualifications for this? Without the ability to print money every time he needs it I suspect his capabilities would be exposed pretty quickly and if liking footy was a qualification we could all write off for the job. This has an Eddie McGuire to channell 9 vibe to it.

Think if they go that way it’s a losing proposition. Deferring tax cuts for high incomes makes sense from both budget repair and equity perspective if lnp double down on it their vote will shrink imo

He kicked a footy once for a photo op at Princess Park.

The idea that a lot of politicians would be good CEO's is absolutely absurd. These guys are complete grubs and career politicians. I think it's generally well accepted that the best leaders & CEO's never enter politics for a variety of reasons and that they would do a much better job than the politicians.

Be careful what you wish for springs to mind

From Kooyong voters to afl fans…..we are so so sorry. But that is the state of the upper echelons of Australian corporations?

So you ****ed up? We’ll just find you something else to * up.

Leaves no doubt where gillons links lie. Au pair etc etc

Don't think Federal Labor can say that as the tax cuts have already been legislated.

Maybe they can do something about the ones that are proposed for in 2024.

There were three stages if I recall correctly. 2019, 2022 and 2024.
