And I'm only talking about formal offers not "yeah he'd fit well in our team" types that every list manager in the country would admit. North are the only reason why he didn't sign with GWS at the beginning of the year. He was about to but the mega offer by North made him reconsider. It's out of two deals and GWS are the favourites. Deal with it. Saints were never in the running. Carlton supporters are getting their hopes up based on Brown's comment on "on the couch" that "journalists" like mcclure and co ran with.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

Sorry to burst your bubble but clubs can't make official contract offers during the season, which I assume is what you mean by "formal offers" given there's no other indication.

They can talk in hypotheticals about contract totals all they want and nudge-nudge-wink-wink about it, but if you're complaining that someone is using a different definition of "offer" at least use a term with a correct implication.

He said we were into him months before he requested a trade to us.

The trade eventually fell through, but it was so last minute Tomlinson actually changed his twitter account to follow us.
Changed his account how? Surely you don't mean he simply followed the clubs twitter?? Because that's not even remotely a big thing?

Well you assumed wrong and i wasn't the one complaining about it, the poster i was quoting was. I was merely clarifying my point. The fact is Kelly's manager is the closest thing anyone on here or the dart throwing media has to real information at the moment and I'm going by what he has said recently.

Not deluded. Just don't fall for media spin that is designed to boost newspaper sales or increase tv ratings. It's in Connor's best interest to say every melbourne club has tabled a bid so that it increases offers etc. But he didn't. Keep believing SEN though - it's not like they are run by saints supporters with an agenda or anything...
haha SEN run by Saints supporters. The Herald Sun is an Essendon propaganda arm. Why don't North have any media under their thumb?

and you're most likely just regurgitating what some "in the know" poster has told you - you have no idea either

Because Barrett is a flog and upset he has been frozen out after his Wells comments. King is upset North didn't go to Gold Coast and the AFL media is bottom of the barrel (sam mcclure...). Nick Bowen is one of the only decent one's that doesn't impose his personal opinion on his reporting.

If you read properly you'd understand i was talking about Kelly's manager - and only parts he's said on the radio. No part of what i said is claiming "in the know". Only inner scroat info i get is from the lions and i don't give a shit about them so it's useless to me.

Haha. I always thought you were a troll.
Are your posts genuine?

You'll have to clarify? Very rare I'd write a troll comment away from the North board. Most of the time I'm just stating an opinion which unfortunately doesn't align with most other posters or the narrative on this forum and therefore I'm apparently trolling.

But anyway it's the Kelly thread - GWS to win the flag and North to sign Kelly. That's my hope.

So what's a formal offer then? If you're going to try to distinguish between those and other offers, then surely you have some kind of definition though I suspect it will end up being what anyone else will just lump into the category of "offer".

As close as an offer you can deliver without breaking the rules. There's different levels obviously. There's making "their interest known" or throwing the line out and seeing if there's any interest from the kelly camp, and then there's a clear and serious formal offer highlighting their intentions. Unsurprising given North tried their best to get him before GWS did and have been in his manager's/family's ears ever since.

I never said Saints were in the running?

I also should have read your previous posts before responding to you.

It's a long time since I heard someone argue for indentured labour.

I think an albeit imperfect, but decent, compromise would be to only allow non free agents to nominate a state they want to be traded to, instead of being allowed to nominate specific clubs.

Which severely limits the incumbent clubs' ability to get a decent deal for players that walk out.

Not to mention it would put a stop to all the bullcrap imaginary PSD scenarios on bigfooty.

Allowing non FA players to only nominate a state would allow incumbent clubs to usually have at least 2 clubs bidding against eachother, which would ensure they get a decent deal.

It would also help the the northern clubs struggling with player retention get max value, with potentially 10 vic clubs bidding against eachother.

And surely it would sort out which players are 'homesick'... and which ones are 'moneysick'.
Because if you're really homesick, surely any club in your home state would be suitable?

So what happens if Kelly nominates Tasmania?
Soon there will only be one club there.

Is Kelly's decision linked to the 2017 flag? Or a non factor?

Valid piont and not an insignificant one.
Why any player leaves a club is always complicated. I reckon if GWS win a flag and it's highly likely as Bret warms up and recruit more experiance tipo Deliedio then GWS will be on a roll for quite few years yet, so why would he leave?

If he was staying at GWS, he would have signed by now. We're about to start round 23.

If he was a definite on going to North, other clubs like Carlton and Essendon wouldn't be suddenly upping the ante. Clearly other teams see him as gettable.

Where he ends up is anyone's guess, but it doesn't look like it will be GWS or North based on how these things usually play out.
