Joyce looks like he is knackered.

In for shoulder operation to both shoulders.

Will miss rest of year.

Dont like his chances of another year on the list.

Pity we did not take Murdoch over him. Cest la vie.

Apparently just signed a 5 year contract as Claude. He needs the shoulders done to be able to perform the obligatory hand stands and cartwheels:rolleyes:

I think re-choosing Joyce was more of a sign of respect to our entire playing group. I think it would have been very unpopular not to. Did we miss an opportunity here though with someone else?

We had already chosen to extend his contract. It was only because of the Tippett situation that we had to go through the draft process to make it happen.

I don't understand why people are so venemous over Joyce. It's not like we've spent much on him. We've had plenty of draftees that haven't looked the part who I haven't seen such anger displayed over. Is it the mascot thing? The Christianity thing? What is it?

i agree. feel for the poor kid, doubt he wanted to get caught up in the whole tippett thing. im glad the club did something right and supported him.

I think it's purely that we were 90% sure he wasn't going to make it in the AFL, and at a time when even average picks suddenly became a premium, we too the soft, pity option.

Nothing to do with Tippett, Claude or Christianity imo.

I would've absolutely loved it if he came on and proved us wrong this year.

Is there any hate for Joyce? He's just not much chop. Maybe there was a bit of WTF when we recruited him because he was left field, and now the WTF seems justified so there's a bit of banter about it.

I've seen much more angst over the Joyce situation than pretty much any other draftee I can remember since we had first round picks going bad.

We'd already agreed to extend his contract. It would have been pathetic of us to say "well sorry Nick, we got caught cheating and lost a couple of picks, we'll have to delist you after all.

Not to mention, delisting him up front would have been worth a much earlier pick than the one we ended up having to take him with anyway, and we still didn't think it was worth it then.

Dude was a project player who had broken into the league side after a single year on the list, which has affected by injury. He just wasn't doing that bad. Why would we delist him?

Way to easy to say we took the "soft option". The reality is we decided he was worth keeping on the list, and then after the Tippett saga, we had to jump through hoops to honour that agreement. To do anything else would have been disgusting, and for what - an extra PSD pick? Please.

I think there was a bit of angst over whether re-drafting him was the right decision, having had to chop him from the list due to the AFL not allowing us to release the Tiprat in time for ND nominations, given the other options available to us at that draft position. Other than that.. I think there's just been recognition that he's probably going to be another draftee who never had what it takes.

Yeah I don't disagree with giving the extra year I just can't remember there being what I would describe as "hate" or "angst".

Maybe I missed it.

No, it's simply the fact that it seemed like a terrible draft pick when he was selected (and nobody else were even vaguely interested) and as a pick its only looked worse since then.

Dont have anything against the guy, but like half a dozen others on our lists, has shown nothing and should be delisted. We wait far too long to make what really arent hard decisions. 2 years to show something, if not, gone. Joyce has had his time, now its time to go.

Weren't the Bulldogs "about to pounce" or something? I don't know, I don't really remember.

I don't believe we ever 're-signed' him; he was simply only half way through his standard 2 year draftee contract.

No, his contract was never "extended", he was 1 year into his initial 2 year contract when we had to delist him due to Kurtly, we simply chose to pick him up again to honour that initial contract.
