AFL Club
Gold Coast
First ever Phantom Draft and don't know enough about the rest of the draft to do a whole draft, so had a crack at the first round. Please give Feedback, ENJOY
Pick 1 - Essendon - Hugh McCluggage - Absolute beast who adds midfield depth to the Bombers and will be the clubs new heppell and replace Jobe Watson in the midfield after his retirement
Pick 2 - GWS - Andrew McGrath - GWS have stated they only want him and if avaliable will take him as the next Heath Shaw for the club.
Pick 3 - BRIS - Ben Ainsworth - Brisbane need a midfield machine who can kick goals, but most importantly won't be inticed to go home. Ainsworth is that man.
Pick 4 - GCS - Tim Taranto - Absolute gun who has class on all parts of the field, exactly what Gold Coast need and will take him at pick 4.
Pick 5 - CARL - BID on Will Setterfield (GWS Match)
Pick 5 - GWS - Will Setterfield - GWS will match a bid for him no matter what and will take this local gun.
Pick 6 - CARL - Sam Petrevski-Seton - Could be anything, his outside class as well as his inside game is tremendious, will fit well in the mighty Blues young lineup.
Pick 7 - GCS - Will Brodie - A good inside midfielder who is a clearance king and a strong young man, has heaps of potential, he is something GC would love and will take him if available
Pick 8 - FRE - Tim English - Local lad who will be the next replacement for Sandilands.
Pick 9 - GCS - Jack Scrimshaw - A gun half back with size who can play midfield will slot into the GC defence in replace of Malceski and then hopefully into the midfield.
Pick 10 - SYD - BID on Jack Bowes (GC MATCH)
Pick 10- GCS - Jack Bowes - Local talent and first GC academy selection for the club. GC will always match a bid and at pick 9 it is a steal.
Pick 11 - SYD - BID on Harry Perryman (GWS Match) - I believe GWS will be able to keep Perryman. So GWS will always match a bid.
Pick 12 - SYD - Griffin Logue - Been talk that they are into him and believe they will select him.
Pick 13- NTH - Oliver Florent - A automatic Boomer Harvey replacement with pace to burn and maybe the best outside mid in the draft.
Pick 14- WCE - Sam Powell-Pepper - A local gun, big bodied contested ball winner, may be picked up around 20, but i think WCE will take a local prospect.
Pick 15- ADE - Daniel Venables - Explosive midfielder who will add depth and grunt to an Adelaide midfield.
Pick 16- PORT - Jarrod Berry - A big bodied gun who will help a struggling power midfield.
Pick 17- BRIS - Jordan Gallucci - attack-minded midfielder who loves to get forward and kick a goal. He has a great turn of speed and will suit the Lions well
Pick 18- PORT - Will Hayward - A local talent and will become a good forward for the Power.
Pick 19- WB - BID on Brad Scheer (GC match)
Pick 19- GCS - Brad Scheer - Local talent and gun who will add much needed grunt to a GC midfield.
Pick 20 WB - Kobe Mutch - Another inside midfielder who will add depth to the Dogs mids.
Pick 21- SYD - Jy Simpkin - Silky and classy, Swans won't pass on him.

Round 2
Pick 22 ESS - Alex Witherden - Great rebounding half back who will do good for the Bombers
Pick 23- BRIS - Shai Bolton - A quick and exciting player who will give outside run to the Lions
Pick 24- BRIS - Zac Fisher - Hard at it midfielder who will fit the lions well.
Pick 25- STK - Cedric Cox - half back flanker who will add run to a St. Kilda defence
Pick 26- GEE - Jordan Ridley - Gives run off half back like Cox and will replace Enright
Pick 27- CAR - Todd Marshall - A key forward exactly what the Blues need and will fit in well at the Blues once he develops
Pick 28- WB - Willem Drew - A great up and coming inside midfielder.
Pick 29- RICH - Josh Battle - Key forward who will replace Vickery in a Tigers forward line
Pick 30 COLL - Brennan Cox - Help the pies with their Key Defender depth, good size and an improving FB.
Pick 31- ESS - Jack Graham - A bull in the midfield who will suit the Bombers well.
Pick 32- PORT - Josh Rotham - Fits the Power well as gives depth to a weak Power defence.
Pick 33- PORT - Dylan Clark - A contested ball beast who wins the ball and gets it forward.
Pick 34- NTH - Jonty Scharenberg - Another contested ball winner who will do well alongside Jack Ziebell and Swallow.
Pick 35- NTH - Patrick Kerr - Another Key Forward who is a strong mark and will be North's replacement for Petrie.
Pick 36- WCE - Luke Bunker - More contested ball winning midfielders which will do well for an ageing WCE midfield, Bunker will receive experience and tips alongside two Brownlow medalists Priddis and Mitchell.
Pick 37:FRE- BID on Jacob Allison (BL Match)
Pick 38- BRIS - Jacob Allison - 194cm's and can play anywhere, great fit for the Lions.
Pick 39- FRE - Taylin Duman - 193cm utility which can be a flanker, outside player or key position, a good fit for Freo.
Pick 40 STK - BID on Isaac Cummins (GWS don't Match) - Midfielder who will do well for the Saints, GWS academy player who probably wont be matched.
Pick 40- GEE - Luke Ryan - Mature aged recruit who will fall around this point, feel he will do well for the Cats.
Pick 41- FRE - BID on Ryan Garthwaite (GWS don't match) - Key defender who will do well for the Dockers

I think the best PD I've read, in terms of who goes where. I think English and Battle will slide but overall really good. Cheers for your efforts.

Will Setterfield.... have I missed his name or do you think he'll slide through the 1st round?

Perryman and Simpkin - I'd take that for the Swans

Yeah just realised I missed Setterfield, thanks for the reminder

Pick 10 - SYD - BID on Harry Perryman (GWS don't Match) - Due to the AFL taking pick 15 and 37, I don't believe GWS will be able to keep Perryman. So will end up down the road at the Swans.

Pick 17 - GCS - Brad Scheer - Local talent and gun who will add much needed grunt to a GC midfield.

I like north's solitary pick choice.

Probably just outside the first round i see him as a slider like Kieran Collins last year
I can't really comment on Collins but Logue really impressed me at WAFL League level and, when coupled with his elite endurance, I can't see him slipping out of the top dozen or so picks.

Having said that, a really good effort I reckon. Good work!

Why would Brisbane pick Battle when we have Schache, Hipwood, Walker, Close, Freeman and Ballenden next year and McStay who can be switched forward?

Yeah I understand where you're coming from didn't realise Lions had so many forwards. I'll fix my draft

They don't need key defenders either smh. Frost, Andrews, Gardiner, McStay. Hipwood also played most of his juniors there. Logue is unlikely also.
I feel Andrews is more a 3rd tall, not very sure about gardiner, hipwood is a forward. So if you add Logue to Frost, McStay and Andrews as a third tall then I feel that gives good depth

Hipwood can actually play at either end of the ground and was All-Australian in defence at under-18 level last year

Zac Fisher for us would be considered a bit of a reach by most but i don't mind it. the only knock on him that pops up regularly is he is too short, otherwise he has really good traits.

I've seen Garthwaite getting picked by Fremantle a few times now but I don't see it happening. We now have 4 KPD under the age of 24, with the decent chance of getting Marcus Adams next year. Also Garthwaite's kicking style is the most putrid thing I've ever seen. Additionally we've lost a lot of midfield depth and if we were to take English at 7 our next 2 picks would almost certainly be midfielders, barring the sliding of a Cedric Cox or Josh Rotham (who is a tall rebounding defender not really a KPD).

Pick 30 COLL - Willem Drew - A defender exactly what the pies need after trading Brown and Frost, and with Reid massively injury prone.

Willem Drew isn't a key position defender

Willem Drew
Inside Midfielder | North Ballarat Rebels/Vic Country
1/10/1998 | 188cm | 78kg
Player comparison: Jack Ziebell

Honestly feels like you've put who you want at Carlton in the second round then filled around it. There is absolutely no reason why Essendon take Hayward ahead of Marshall.
