Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has been labelled a serial killer on US TV.
Erin Burnett, an anchor on American financial news channel CNBC, launched a verbal attack targeting Rudd following his government's decision to spend $A19 million to cull feral camels in the outback.

"He has launched air strikes - air strikes - against camels in the outback."

Burnett said there are one million camels living wild in Australia and the animals would be shot.

She also complained the meat and milk from the camels would be wasted.
"Apparently there is a billion dollars of meat out there," Burnett said.

In 2007 she (Erin Burnett) posed for a risque photo shoot for Maxim that included a topless cover. She also made Maxim's top 10 "Hottest News Anchor" list.
Hmm, i don't know where i sit on this issue. No, he isn't a murderer, but wasting all that milk and meat? I didn't even know there were that many camells...

The air raid sounds pretty weird, but i'm sure it would be the most painless thing they could think of. They wouldn't deliberatly put them through excruciating (sp) pain for no reason...

Thoughts?

This very same story was aired on Channel Nine News. 'Twas indeed funny. Don't know about the whole 'serial killer' thing though. IIRC (might be in that article), one of the hosts of that American show labelled it as potential genocide...

Do you have any idea how big Australia is? Do you realise how much it would cost to collect that meat? Do you also cry every time the Kimberley Toad Taskforce goes out culling toads? There are more wild camels in North Australia than any other part of the world. They are an introduced species and they are destroying the natural environment.

No I`m don`t cry when toads or roos get culled, and i`m not crying now.

The cost to collect that meat, would surly be less then a billion dollars?

Oh well, i trust my government made the right decision. They`d know alot more of the story and backdetails then us on here, or news panelists.

I only just learned we had them in the wild here :o.
there's a bunch of random feral animals up in the top end isn't there? camels, pigs, buffalo and shit like that.

anyway bottom line is feral animals **** shit up and need to be culled, air strike seems like a pretty effective way to go about it.

why exactly someone would bring this up, on a financial news channel in america no less, when they clearly have nfi about the impact of feral animals I cannot understand.

that's pretty dramatic stuff from a finance dedicated channel

anyway, there's 1m camels, that are a serial pest in the australian outback..... and if left alone will only continue to damage the australian ecosystem.... it's not pretty, but the numbers need to be culled

but look on the bright side, i can't wait until camel meat kebabs start selling ;)

You can't use them for their meat, they are feral and hence have a large chance of being disease ridden.

Surprise, surprise an American having a go at another countries practices. I look forward to PETA or even better Erin Burnett placing themselves amongst the camels to prevent them from being culled.

Some people have absolutely no idea what damage these and other feral animals are doing to our outback and farming communities. The RSPCA do a fantastic job in this country and would be well aware of the practices involved and to whether the job was being done humanely or not.

Go clean up your own backyard Erin and then maybe you can comment on others.

Pet camel kills woman

Roberta Mancuso
August 19, 2007 11:07am

A PET camel that killed a 60-year-old woman in Queensland's south was a birthday present from her family, police say.
Pam Weaver's body was found on their sheep and cattle property at Dunkeld, near Mitchell, about 600km west of Brisbane, about 6.30pm (AEST) yesterday.
Police said the camel knocked her to the ground, stomped on her and then lay on top of her.
They said the 10-month-old pet had a history of bizarre behaviour – it had tried to suffocate the family's pet goat many times.

They started it. In all seriousness, camels, donkeys, buffalos, horses, pigs etc are all a massive problem up in the top end. The best job I ever had was working on a station in the NT. As part of our duties, we had to keep the pig population down. We'd go up in a helicopter and land on top of a hill and take down as many pigs as we could. The blood would sure be pumping with hundreds of big dirty pigs charging at you.

Serial killer? How man ytimes has he done it? Wouldn't it be mass murderer?

Don't agree with either title however. Pests need to be killed. (Not that I knew we had any)
