Would Kerr for Polly and perhaps a mixture\swap of picks be acceptable at Freo ?

Gives us some midfield grunt which CC wants ?

Kerr's a great player, and his last 5 or 6 games have been great, but he's not what we need. We don't need another short, slow midfielder with average skills. Sure he would help our clearance issues, but we need either Hasleby or Josh Carr to really lift in that area instead of recruiting someone to fill the void.

We need a tall, quick midfielder who can win the ball at stoppages and clear the pack with pace. Someone in the mould of Judd, Wells, Dal Santo, Ricciutto. Players of that calibre are very rarely traded so our best bet is the draft. Hopefully with the improvement of Sandilands and with Josh having a season under his belt at the club our clearances will improve next year. A new midfield coach might also be on the cards.

Great idea Kapow but that doesn't seem to be the Connolly way. Four years ago the bottom 3 teams were Freo, St Kilda and the mob that won Today. The other 2 teams retained their picks, went with youth and are now reaping the benefits and are in the top 4. We traded for the short term so should be ahead of the other 2 clubs (and the dogs who have bottomed since 2001) but it hasn't worked out that way.

.
Wouldn't say he is slow with average skills.

Slow's probably an overstatement but he's certainly not quick and would be the slowest of Judd, Embley, Fletcher, Kizons, Stenglein, Braun. He does spray his kicks quite often, although his disposal is quick and accurate by hand.

Kerr got 24 touches in the first half of a PF.

Explain to me how Polak and Kerr could possibly be considered of equal value.

Have I missed something?

Gaspar and Staker are both possibilties at CHB next season.

We don't need Polak enough that we would trade a guy who has performed as well as Kerr.

Are Polak's achievements even remotely comparable with Kerr's?

Get real.

A bit simplistic.
Have a look at the Best 22 that played today for the Girls.
Players that were there:

Banfield (171 games at end of 2001)
Braun (72 games at end of 2001)
Cousins (122 games at end of 2001)
Cox (17 games at end of 2001)
Embley (37 games at end of 2001)
Fletcher (38 games at end of 2001)
Gardiner (77 games at end of 2001)
Gaspar (6 games at end of 2001)
Glass (26 games at end of 2001)
Hunter (10 games at end of 2001)
R.Jones (56 games at end of 2001)
Kerr (19 games at end of 2001)
Wirrapunda (65 games at end of 2001)

Experienced Trades
Stenglien (126 games since 1999)
Chick (208 games since 1996)

2001 Draftees
Judd
Sampi
Seaby
Hansen
Nicoski

2002 Draftees
Staker
Selwood

Not one that was drafted in 2003 or 2004.

Compare that to our best 22 and you will see that by any objective measure we have come from a lot worse position and are still 1-2 years behind them.

You serious??

Kerr is very quick off the mark, where did you get the perception he was slow? He always darts out of packs and away from peopple??

Only Judd and maybe Cousins would be quicker over the first 20m.

And FWIW, he was our rep for the 100m sprint on GF day 2yrs back. So he cant be that slow.

When you got the footy smarts and a footy brain you don't have to be fleet of foot. The kid can play thats for sure. But ice and butter will survive in hell before we get him.

The interstate teams just send whoever wants a free holiday to the grand final. Troy Simmonds was our representative one year and there would have been atleast a dozen people on our list quicker over 100m.

yeh I realise that it doesnt mean he is the best runner in the side. But its an indication.

And I think you will find that Simmonds was actually one of your quicker runners over 100m. He always has been a very good athlete and I do remember something written in the paper about him being one of the quickest in on your list in running races.

I don't think it's possible to be objective. Either you are happy with the way we are going or you are unhappy and think that CC is a poor coach.

Our list is laden with 1st round picks (12 in total, many over the 100 game mark) and has underperformed for 2 years. If the kids that got a run had struggled then I would agree with you that we are a year behind them, but Peake, Mundy, Crowley and Dodd all had very good seasons. We have brought in a lot of quality players since 2002, we have had very few retirements in that time, yet we won only 2 more games. Our team is one clearly lacking in motivation and direction.

After that it gets a bit thin. Mundy & Campbell are the only 2nd round picks on our list and Peaker is the only 3rd rounder.

The balance is made up of mainly promoted rookies.

There were plenty on threads the other week about Malcolm Blight thoughts that it is the quality of the Bottom 6 of the 22 that determines how good you are.

Our bottom 6 would be picked up by any other club if we delisted them so they are obviously quality. The days of the likes of Fewster, Cunningham, Eastaugh and Woods getting a game are behind us.

Compare-
Thornton, Sandilands, Dodd, Peake, Crowley
Gaspar, Seaby, Selwood, Staker, Nicoski.
Not a big difference in ability there.

Probably is in reality, but don't tell the natives that.

Took
WC 5 years with there huge kick start
Adelaide 6 years with theirs
Port 7 years with all the startups not nominating for the draft
Saints are still trying desite getting Kosi and Nick in 2000
Cats are still building after Bombers six years.

We expect a flag 4 years after starting again.
