Listen it was a fantastic win, so rapped for the boys and all the supporters but one thing really troubled me during the game and that was our kicking in.

It was hopeless to say the least.

why the hell is Carrots kicking in?

what do you think we can do to fix this?

We need a select few to kick in the majority of times;
Kade Simpson, Scotland, Gibbs and Stevens.

someone needs to say NO to Carrazzo and Setanta.
Congrats on Setanta being named in our best as well. Irish project is not a failure tbh

we really struggle to form a good structure when kicking in... i say lets just bring back the old fashion huddle! it really is hopeless ATM and its costing us a few goals per match.

we also struggle to defend against opposition kick-ins. we play a stupid zone that allows opp. players to take an uncontested mark. It showed tonight in the last quarter that when we ditched the zone and played man-on-man port were just forced to play on to the pocket and kick it long up to the wing. the result? a turn over. ditch the zone and stick to man-on-man!

The coaching staff really needs to sit down and formulate a structure for our kick ins, because as it stands, it doesn't look like we have one.

I really like Setanta, but the fact is, that he should not be taking any kick ins. Same goes for Carrazzo. And Waite. NONE.

Leave it to Gibbs, Stevens and Scotland.

We give away so many goals either directly or indirectly from kick-ins that it really is unacceptable. We can't expect to win games when we give up goals that we just don't need to.

Cloke and Hampson/Kruuze are not strong enough overhead grabs to be used as a long target unless they are on a strong lead. Too many times tonight players just lobbed it on top of the big man's head from the kickout.

A lot of our problems come from indecison, which comes back to taking far too long to spot up a target. If an opposition player is having a set shot at goal our designated kicker should be waiting near the bag of balls and as soon as the behind has been signalled we should be away. Doesnt allow the opposition to work their zone out.

An example of this, although coming from a rushed behind, was early in the game when Gibbs rushed a behind & played on straight after the behind was signalled. The quick movement of the ball saw Murphy with a shot on goal at the other end, which he unfortunately missed, but demonstrated the value of the quick kick-in.

It needs a heap of work, as I said in the game day thread - kick ins have to be like chess in that you need to know what the next move is as well because when we did get a short away, the receiver then had no options.
