Kite has always been regarded as a possible replacement for Bassett but looking at the clip from the SANFL I believe he could be fantastic as a forward option, wouldn't it be handy.

I know he's got a long way to go, still in the Ressies, but he has great hands, good kicking and for his height is bloody quick. Given its the year of first gamers wouldn't it be great to give him a shot or two, could pay off

If we can get him to build a bigger tank he'll be a lethal Wingman. Very good overhead, booming and pretty accurate kick and likes to run and carry. Start him off in the backline then move him to a wing- he could be one of those guys where he only needs 15-20 possessions to have a big impact on the game. He has bulked up alot since last year- pretty intimidating unit now.

Aaron Kite is a Forward player, and always was at Glenroy FC. He is playing out of his position in the backline, Coach know's best, but not always.

Go Kitey.

Yeah I like him on the wing. His run and attack, tackling and defensive pressure can all be utilised there.

Eventually I'd love to see Kite on one wing, Otten on the other wing with Danger, Mackay and Vince as our premier midfielders. Otten and Kite are both 192 and 191cm respectively, but also very agile and kitey is super quick. These two would both give us marking options through the centre part third of the ground allowing our forwards to maintain their structure instead of playing so far up the ground that when we get the ball into our attacking third we have no structure to kick to and in most cases out numbered.

Kite, Otten and the Ruckman would all be marking options in our centre third wihich I believe is our big downfall when coming out of defense. We dont have confidence kicking to our only target in that area (our ruckman). We wouldn't lose any run or skill with Kite and Otten playing on the wings.

I love this:thumbsu:

Adds another piece to the puzzle which would allow us far better ball movement forward in the congestion that is the centre and half-forward areas of the ground.

It is never foolproof transitioning from defence to attack in modern footy (though Craig is trying for the perfect game plan, our results show how hard it can be to weave your way forward trying to use or create free spaces). It can be suffocating with opposition zones and floods.

To kick long into our forward line with our current build-up gave us a crappy score (12.7) from 50 forward entries (surprised we actually made it there so often). So just under 40% chance of scoring.

Now add these pieces to the puzzle:

- a decent CHF and structure
- great defensive crumbers across half forward

Therefore better chance of getting thru HF...must increase scoring %

Plus

- attacking, forward moving defenders
- and now Lunacy's 'height through the middle' focus so we can better win contests in the air (inevitable in the confined spaces of the midfield if we are gonna start taking some chances of moving forward quickly

Assuming we win our share of contested ball these changes will certainly improve the scoreline

Provided that someone like Young can become the new and improved Bassett version 2.0, and somebody else steps up to take the quick mid-tall sized defender role ala Massie/Torney, Otten and Kite as our wing duo is a dead set luxury and an exciting prospect. There's so much to like about most of our draftees from the last two years, don't quite know if I have the patience to wait for them all to step up and start pushing for selection ;)

Hope we can jag an A grade midfielder in this year's draft. I doubt this could happen, but it'd go long way to ensure we have the best young list to push through all the pillaging and plundering of young talent by Gold Coast/West Sydney.

I think young will take a possie down the spine if he makes it. Has a very big bodie and has quickly gone from being the least impressive of the 08 class to a very impressive lad.

FB/FF could see his name on it in 2 years.

I was wondering about him at FB actually. He might be a replacement for Ruttenin a few years.

Was my initial thought to Stabby.

Provided Rutten isn't snapped by the GC Budgie Smugglers as some have speculated, he will be our number one full back for another 5+ years if his body holds up. Bock will be CHB for the same period, meaning Young will learn his trade as a genuine third tall if that's where we pick him to play. He'll then take the FB spot in his prime at around the age of 24-25. McKernan or Davis could also be thrown in the mix for the same sort of destiny, but could just as likely end up as forwards.

This is succession planning at its finest.

The budgie smuglers could certainly throw a few spanners in the mix, if they take KPP's or Rucks from teams it could hurt.

Well it's all about who's contracted and who isn't. From what I gather, the restrictions on the number of players we must have on our list entering into the draft this year have been lifted or eased, so the smart clubs will have all of the priority players (future stars + current best 22 players) signed up. The slack will come with guys who will be uncontracted this year or next year like Gill, Hentschel, Shirley, Stevens, Doughty, Burton, Gallman etc. There will also be others that simply won't come along as we would've liked who we won't be devastated to lose. Also keep in mind that if things go as expected, Goodwin, McLeod and Edwards will retire (or be moved on) this year or the next, creating the necessary room on our list for draft picks, rookie elevations etc.

Put it this way...with where our list is at, we won't lose any players who want to play for us, that's another story in itself.

Smart players and agents wont allow themselves to sign early.

I think they'd fall under the category of guys who don't want to/don't care if they play for the club or not.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the smugglers have access to only one uncontracted player per club? I assume that by saying players/agents won't sign too early you mean that this would be geared towards fattening their paycheck, and while I know loyalty counts for a lot less these days than it used to, surely players doing this would be somewhat risking their standing within the club (especially with their team mates). Hardly seems worth the risk when only one guy can be taken via this means.

Meh, it's just business as usual (see Mr Mattner/Hudson), except the AFL will decide which draft pick we get back in return instead of the Crows and said poaching club, and we can decide when to use said draft pick.

The AFL haven't announced any such changes. The only list management concessions so far for the existing 16 clubs is the ability to list an additional 2 rookies in 2009 & 2010.

The existing rules state that the clubs must take a minimum of 3 players in the National Draft. There is some speculation that they may allow the clubs to include rookie promotions in this 3 player minimum in 2010 & 2011 - but nothing has been formally announced so far.

Sounds pretty unrealistic to me. What kind of agent is doing their job if they allow a client to be signed early, before the possibility of a significant counter-offer? That sounds pretty negligent to me.
