Further to the above Knightmare, if things fall our way, can we get Mark Kovacevic late in the draft?

Also, have any of the Box Hill Hawks done enough to get drafted anywhere?
Have Xavier Murphy, David Mirra, Brandon Wood, Ryan Exon or Tom Goodwin* done enough to get drafted?

* = went to school with him.
You can take any ruck you want late in the draft, they'll mostly be taken in the rookie.

No.

Hey KM great work. Probably have a few too many picks for Ess though as we are upgrading Ambrose and still need to delist one more to take the min 3 picks in as we picked up cooney, giles & gwilt.

Any chance of Connors, Panos, Saad getting picked up or more likely PSD/Rookie?

Daniel Connors I don't see receiving another shot.

Ahmed Saad may. Adam Saad also has some draft chances after testing well at the state screenings.

Panos a genuine chance as a tall midfielder either in the national or rookie draft.

KM thoughts on Keitel ? will he get drafted and why?

Highly likely Keitel does get drafted. Those 7 and 8 goal games in the WA Colts will have caught the attention of some and the fact that he can also play back will endear himself to recruiters. Mid draft and somewhere around pick 40 is where I see him landing.

Kovacevic is not definitely getting drafted but if he does most likely it's as a rookie.

No Box Hill Hawks are definites. Mirra I feel could be handy for a back half as a rookie if looking for someone more experienced. The others I'd probably pass on but that doesn't mean AFL clubs won't consider them.

When are you doing an update?

I plan an update next Sunday. Have another busy week this week but hopefully I can find some time on the weekend to update page one or get a new thread going.

I've got say 45 bios complete - not that they will all fit in this thread - I need more posts available to put the bios into page one. My hope is I get the 50 bios done then at the end I'll review it and make some small tweaks and I'll have the final product up.

So griffen (value around pick 4) and pick 6 for boyd was a fair trade (given st kilda knocked back 4 and 7 for pick 1) in your opinion?

In GWS' position Griffen and pick 6 is about the most attractive deal they could have received. They really need Griffen rather than more draft picks. You need to win at some stage and having a top end mid will not only help winning but also help the development of the younger mids.

It was a good deal for both sides with Boyd surplus for GWS and really needed by WBD.

It's a setback in the immediate for the Dogs. But long term I like it with Boyd projected to become one of the best key forwards in the game.

Hey Knightmare, just having a closer look at the GWS picks. They have 3 in the top 10 then 23 & 24 (which is committed to Jack Steele.), they then don't have a pick until number 80.

I am now thinking they will use pick 23 for an experienced player. What's the chance they would take a Taylor Hunt to replace his namesake Josh.
Or perhaps Hardingham to use as a 3rd tall back.

I would like your thoughts on this?

GWS won't use pick 23 on a recycled player. That is for sure. Perhaps a mature ager such as Josh Glenn if they really love him but Griffen and Patfull are their seasoned win now guys. The best available will be a kid so I can't see them not going that way given their circumstance.

It's more just over time they'll be trading some of those picks to bring in the quality of veterans rather than depth guys.

Oh man, you're not here because you're pining for all those first picks you don't have any more?
You haven't got sick of your new toy already and in need of new toys?
Does every thread have to become a Tom Boyd thread?

Knightmare Are you hearing anything on where Saad may land?
I know we were very interested but that interest did have some stipulations attached.

Have no specific information on who likes Saad but a few needing a quick forward will consider him. Carlton and St Kilda if I had to guess would be among the more likely to consider him. Perhaps Essendon or North Melbourne if looking for a more immediate punch up forward.

Knightmare do you think Cockatoo could slide to 30 due to go home and culture shock reasons?

The talk is he will go higher rather than lower. He seems to have adjusted pretty well and impressed North Melbourne with the work he put forward with them through his one week AIS placement there so the concern is low with Cockatoo I imagine.

Seems to me in recent years very few indigenous kids have gone in the first round, and the last one I can remember that did (Josh Simpson) has had huge problems. Is this a trend you're noticing?

Hey KM just wondering what your thoughts on Duggan are? What is his pace like? his highlights reel reminded me of Andrew Gaff a lot but with a bit more hurt factor with his possessions. if there are no suitable KPP at Freos first pick I wouldn't be disappointed one bit if we went for him. Seems like a very draftable young man.

knightmare, i notice that both you and cal twomey have miller going at pick 31 to the hawks. Have you heard anything regarding this or just a rough estimate of his draft position?

Hey KM,

Ben Newton has nominated for the draft, which club (and draft selection#) do you see him going to?

Cheers

KM, looking at Touk Miller, he reminds me a lot of a young Daniel Kerr. How would you compare the two as draft prospects?

It's not out yet - Twomey just posted his "potential first pick" for each team, and for Hawthorn it was Touk Miller.

Twomey hasn't actually done his phantom draft yet, and when it comes out there's a decent chance it won't still be Miller at #31.

Anyone got a link to footage of daniel Mckenzie?

Yes

http://www.afl.com.au/video/2014-09-15/draft-prospect-daniel-mckenzie

and it is very impressive imo

We had a phantom on the Blues Board and i picked for the Bulldogs. This was my write up:

#39 Western Bulldogs – Daniel McKenzie (VIC – Def/Mid)

Height: 186cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 17/05/1996
Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers
Range: 20-50
Profile: Damaging rebounding defender.

I had this guy ready to go at #26 but DeGoey fell to there, so am more than happy to take him here.

Selecting him specifically as a quality HB flanker or at a pinch a winger. The Dogs have shipped out Higgins, and Murphy is in his last year or so, and in their building young outfit they only really have Johanison(who is a nice prospect) as a back flanker.

McKenzie reminds me in playing style a touch of Birchall and KK although obviously not rated quite so high. McKenzie doesn't quite have the size of those 2, but he has their dash and decisive play. I like the way he makes decisions quickly and decisively when committing in the air or dashing off in possession.

Also a very good trait is that he performed best when it counts most...under the heat...in the Finals. Named best for his team in the Grand Final and in the best in the other final.

Tested extremely well at the Combine so has the athleticism too for AFL ranks.

KM what do you think the chances of the Ballarat Rebels youngster Tom Templeton are to get drafted in the main draft or perhaps even the rookie draft, been quite impressive coming off half back in the TAC cup and lit the MCG up with his B.O.G. performance for St. Pats in the Herald Sun Shield Final???

Knightmare, I don't know if this has been asked.
But, how does Patrick McCartin compare to Jesse Hogan?
And.. If you were the Dees, would you take McCartin if he slipped to 2/3?

Hey Knightmare, Nathan drummond I saw during the champs had a 15 disposals a game at 50% efficiency, do you reckon he could be developed into a elite possession getter.

With Phil Walsh in to coaching, he has a team first attitude e.g. rewarding effort, give to players in better positions etc. Which key defenders around our first and second picks have that team first attitude?

Could we pick up Brayden Maynard with our second pick in the draft? And what is his comparison/style?

Bennell went number two overall and has been terrific.

It's just doing the personality profiling and making a judgement based on that. Do your due diligence interviewing and talk to their previous teachers/coaches among those others who have been in contact with the players.

This year Ahern and Pickett both will go first round. Cockatoo and Garlett may also so while there may not have been many indigenous footballers going early draft the last few years, it's a different story each year.
