Knightmare,

Are there any whispers or do you think that more than one bloke will be taken as a Cat B rookie from "The Recruit"?

Who will be the most likely club to take the winner. Your mob?

Seems almost like a free go at a top 22/depth player?

I'd even advocate moving down the draft for Gold Coast's first round pick and the compensation pick they receive from Geelong if not overly excited by the early draft options available and looking more for quantity of good talents.

Knightmare, would you entertain this option for Melbourne. Pick 3 for the GCS 2 first round picks?

The guys from the recruit?!? Lol, none of them will get anywhere near playing a game of AFL

He is playing as a midfielder, he just isn't spending 100% of the match in the middle because of his value elsewhere. DeGoey would be the Chargers best midfielder, but also their best medium forward - and they only have one of him.

Fair enough Chris, but if he was their best midfielder he'd be in the middle as often as he could be - I'm not commenting on how good he is, I rate him, but that just seems the trend in recruiting players even up to the early 3rd round.

Interested you had Ahern as a selection for WC and not Laverde. Is there a rationale behind this?

Laverde meets our needs far more. I know draft position at this stage is rather arbitrary, but I would be interested in your explanation, especially given you rate Ahern the lesser player

Laverde is more a tall, classy flanker. Ahern is more the speedy weapon type who can break the lines that I imagine WCE would want.

Remember my power rankings is where I personally rate guys. My phantom draft is where I expect guys to go in the draft order so my personal feelings or thoughts for players don't come into it in my phantom draft.

Yeah Ahern seems to be rated by most as going 9 or 10 in this draft but he has come from well back. Why the increase in his draft value?

Ahern through a strong showing through the u18 champs was thereafter touted by many as a possible top 10 pick. He has been considered as someone who would be selected thereabouts for a while now.

Likely Johann Wagner wins the program I imagine. He seems like the most likely type on the program. If he wins where does he want to go? It likely will be a combination of where is he from? SA. Who does he support? Adelaide? Where does he seem the greatest opportunity for him to get games and develop as a footballer? Perhaps he likes the young player development Collingwood have demonstrated. Perhaps he likes what Port Adelaide are doing from a fitness perspective. It's up in the air and will be interesting to see which way the player goes.

If another guy from The Recruit is taken Reece Maxwell isn't a bad bet as someone with nice movement and scope to develop. Perhaps Bradie Foster who likewise has some very good scope to improve. Chris Moreland might appeal to someone with his hardness. Perhaps Padraig Lucey as a tall could be taken on as a project. In any case they're all really marginal recruits who are outside changes to be taken outside of the winner - presumably Wagner to guess.

Knightmare, would you entertain this option for Melbourne. Pick 3 for the GCS 2 first round picks?

I would have no issue with making that move. Diversifies the risk and may bring in two good talents rather than just the one. Not a whole lot of difference within that first even up to possibly 15 picks so if not super high on the talents likely to go in the first few picks it may prove a good move.

Knightmare thoughts on Caleb Daniel?

Good for a 166cm bloke. Nice skillset. Has the production behind him. Perhaps not as quick as he needs to be for an extreme small. Rookie chance. No guarantee to get selected.

What do you think of:
Harry Marsh
Jordan Lockyer

Both are 190cm mids
Lockyer has had very good season in swans reserves as a wingman, just cant break
into strong swans team.
Harry is you classic big inside mid, but injured his hamstring hasn't played a lot.

Both are on the chopping block.

Both being WA boys would they be good rookie pick ups for WCE.
Lockyer's old man played 80 games for us.

The weekly Sam Durdin report is that he played ruck in a winning side today and dominated. He looked a bit more confident too.

Jess Watchman kicked 3 goals.

Brett Turner was heavily tagged but was still classy.

Mitchell of the Swans is rumoured to be on $400k+ and not getting a regular game. Swans could get some salary cap relief plus an early draft pick if they trade him. Given they probably already have one of the best midfields in the comp and they get Heeney this draft and Mills and Dunkley in 2015 (all potential gun mids) they may want one of the talls tipped to go early this draft - their KPD's are not getting any younger.
If the Dees get pick 3 for Frawley there is a good chance a trade will be done.
Roos has said the Dees want quality mids. Basically 2 top mids are required just to be very competitive next season with the bottom 6 teams and worry from time to time teams in the next 6 with the odd win.
Mitchell and Petracca or Brayshaw would be a good result.

Hi Knightmare,

How would you compare Brayshaw and Heeney's season last year to Ben Keays? Am I rating Keays too high by comparing him to those two do you think?

KM, clarify how F/S picks work if you trade out of the round you would otherwise use that pick on. EG: Collingwood trade pick 8 to the Dogs for Minson, could they then use their second round pick to snag Moore? If that was the case, that'd be a huge win/win situation.

FS bidding done before trade wk begins so you already know if the respective draft pick is tied to a player & therefore not able to be traded

Neither have done a great deal to impress - not finding the quantity of ball or having the influence on games expected. Same could be said of Lamb who may also experience a similar drop down draft boards.

Ryder seems most keen from reports to move to a non traditional footballing state (specifically QLD or NSW).

With Minson and Campbell at the Dogs and as a bottom 10 team I don't see the situation appealing to Ryder.
lol that didnt answer the question he posed, he was not alluding to Ryder to the dogs he was saying could Write slip to the dogs pick if the Lions take Ryder in a deal.

KM what can you tell me about Daniel McKenzie (oakleigh chargers) he seems to be having a good year from half back for them.

Invited to the draft combine so he is in the mix.

McKenzie is a rebounding back flanker. More your run and carry rebounder. Good but not freakish athlete. His last month of the season was his best but for me personally not a major standout.

So out of Pickett and Ahern for the Crows first pick which one is the better talent ans most likely to be elite out of the two Knightmare?

Pickett for me. His ability to take on the game with his run is on another level.

The Sydney reserves are interesting to watch and there is so much depth there! And you've identified two of the right talents from Sydney, no question in my mind. If they get cut they would both be among the better delisted free agent possibilities.

Marsh I feel has some real scope to develop as someone who can really build his body up and become a strong inside mid. In my mind it would be a real mistake for Sydney to go as he seems to have plenty of more improvement left. Puts in the work over the offseason from everything I understand so he can reach his ceiling, whatever that turns out to eventually be.

Lockyer also has played some strong footy this season and looks like someone who could be a piece for a team. He has shown strong improvement and I like the switch from the back half up the field with his endurance good for a tallish type.

If I was in Sydney's position I wouldn't be moving either on, with both if they happen to be delisted in my mind premature delistings as players who can still make the grade.

It would be a good trade for Sydney to get a first round pick for Mitchell. Get a Marchbank, Goddard. Even anywhere from the second round Sydney could get Oscar McDonald who is another not spoken about enough key defender with game.

No guarantee Melbourne get pick 3 if Frawley is lost. Given the compensation formula that would be a generous outcome. But if that did happen then I could definitely see Melbourne looking to offload one of those picks for someone like Mitchell. You might find Dylan Shiel or Jon O'Rourke become available in which case they could be other alternatives, though with O'Rourke you'd want someone in addition to him for a deal for him to be worthwhile.

If dealing with Sydney with the intent to get Mitchell I would also be discussing with Sydney some bottom of list options to see if one could be had.

Hi Knightmare,

Keays looks much better than Heeney this time last year. Brayshaw roughly on par at the same stage.

Keays looks really good. Top 5 good next year and it's not out of the question he becomes the best 1-2 of next years group. Just such a natural footballer. Footskills, vision, decision making, finishing, marking and 1v1 marking ability, contested ball winning. He is a terrific talent and has the performances on the board already so he ticks the boxes for me. Looks a ripper.

lol that didnt answer the question he posed, he was not alluding to Ryder to the dogs he was saying could Write slip to the dogs pick if the Lions take Ryder in a deal.

Wright may well slip through to the Dogs first selection, not out of the question. It may even happen if Brisbane don't end up with Ryder. But if Brisbane do get lucky and end up with Ryder then it only increases the Dogs chances.

Knightmare, what are Mccartin's chances of landing at Brisbane? I think he could. The draft could play out like this:

1. St Kilda: Petracca
2. Melbourne: Wright
3. Melbourne: Brayshaw
4. GWS: Lever/Durdin
5. Brisbane: McCartin

Personally, I would except Melbourne to take Wright over McCartin as Wright can pinch hit in the ruck and they aren't overly strong in that department.

Perhaps a little bit of wishful thinking.

Thoughts?

McCartin and Petracca will in some order go top 2.

If Melbourne don't want McCartin and they expect St Kilda to pass on him I imagine they will offload their pick for an experienced player.

Knight not sure if u know this far ahead but there are 2 sandi boys from caulfield grammar ask krakouer and Tate short know of them?
