Lachie Hansen Sacked

Now who was it from the North board that kept trolling tiger posters saying that Hansen is a better forward than Riewoldt and that this would be proven in the future?

LMAO.

Under Brad we will always need luck and major amounts of it.

He doesn't build to be the best. There's no chance of pioneering or creativity.

Bradbury at best. We plod along hoping other teams fall over. We are weak and dumb and slowly losing the culture.

Other than that, if they can pull a few guns from their behind, we may just Bradbury in future years under Brad. As long as everything goes right...injuries, finals draw etc.

Sometimes I feel like the club is scared of alienating its fans. The only thing that is going to alienate me is soft football, bring back the ruthless edge that made us feared.

Experience is great if it is in the form of leadership, part of the reason we have cash to burn on better players is we have so few that have stood up to be leaders. There is no point having a back six that includes Tarrant, Thompson and Hansen when we are conceding 2,264 points during the H&A. What good is that experience? Tarrant I would keep, because he is capable of winning a one-on-one contest, I would also put Thomspon out to pasture as well.

Nielson, Durdin and Vickers-Willis are capable enough. I don't think we would be at a disadvantage playing Tarrant/Nielson/Vickers-Willis compared to Tarrant/Thompson/Hansen.

The culling shouldn't end there.

Swallow should retire, he has been woeful since he did has Achilles. I am sympathetic because he was fantastic pre-Achilles, but he is shot.
Jacobs is only 25 but he played 7 games in 2016 and 0 this year. I am not sure how bad his foot is but if they aren't optimistic then he should be cut. If not cut, moved to rookie list until he can prove he can stay on the park.
Wright, like Jacobs, isn't old at 27... however, played 8 games in 2016 and 0 this year. Rookie list or bust imo.
Gibson, should be let go if we do somehow manage to secure one or two significant midfield options.
Thomas, disappointed that he had the year he had given we needed him with the absence of Boomer and Wells particularly, if he isn't capable of playing a significant role, he should be retired.
Waite, should hang up the boots. I have enjoyed his time with us though but he is reverting back to Carlton-like resilience.

I think we need a solid core group of high quality players, then have the younger players playing with them, the importance is to keep the balance right. We have too many mungs running around atm who are the type of player you fill holes in a list with when you are contending, but you let go when you rebuild. There are probably one or two I would keep for depth like Mullett, but I would leave enough room for speculative picks plus allow for what could theoretically be a bumper crop of potential father-son and academy players in 2018.

Assuming we get the Martin/Kelly double...

FF: Simpkin(19/13) Brown(24/77) Garner(23/34)
HF: Ziebell(26/166) Wood(23/26) Higgins(29/183)
C: Kelly(22/81) Martin(26/175) McDonald(22/74)
HB: Macmillan(25/117) Durdin(21/8) Atley (24/154)
FB: Williams(24/81) Tarrant(28/105) Vickers-Willis(21/7)
F: Goldstein(29/190) Cunnington(26/165) Dumont(22/39)
I: Clarke(20/21) Hrovat(23/52) Turner(21/36) Preuss (22/8)

That is still about an average age of 23.6 and an average number of games of 82.4 for the start of a season. I think that is still a reasonable starting point of a season type of profile.
Thanks for the considered response.

I still think the two-big-fish scenario is incredibly unlikely. But good luck to you guys if you can pull it off. The expansion teams didn't even bring in two guys of such high quality in the same off season when they started.

Back to the topic - it's that weird old thing. "Get rid of the old blokes - they're cooked - but whatever you do, don't get rid of the old blokes"

Someone would need to sit Brad down and ask him not to kiss so much opposition arse for starters.

His opposition ball tickling (career coach, selfish) style will never allow an us v them style.

They'd also need to ask him to slow down on the constant excuses. He sets up 'reasons' for the players to hide behind that makes them inconsistent and pea hearted.

Brad would also have to grow a pair and risk alienating a few players. The team will never achieve the standards necessary to go all the way while Brad sneaks Thomas out of the side with Ziebell or Goldstein and never drops Gibson for costing games.

Putting any senior players offside is something career coach Brad knows can be 'risky' to his own future.

Brad would need to allow the younger guys with 'spunk' (Wood, Dumont, Zurhaar) more freedom to express themselves with continuity rather than treating them like shit until they lose any swagger.

There's a lot wrong with Brad. Too much for success, but his bum tap, zombie out style of risk free role play does seem to have its upside (when not injury imploded, choking, taking the foot off the gas, traveling poorly etc).

The list has a lot of potential but there'll always be the problem of taking the soft option over the right option with this management. It's a bit of amateur hour unfortunately but as they say, we aren't alone in our failings.

Love this call.

Multiple hip injuries ruined his mobility in the later years and 5-6 concussions went a fair way in shortening his career. Was a good intercept mark that often struggled one-on one.

Good clubman and bloke, doesn't deserve a mb thread for a few certain posters to take pot shots at him.

Did something happen?

Has been a while since he set the world on fire, but surely North will have troubles paying the minimum salary cap as it is. (Unless they land two superstars in a single offseason, which - regardless of what you think of North - has never happened for any club).

Also seems strange to be shelling experience when they really don't have much of it over the list.
Degenerative hip injuries, which affected mobility a bit, multiple concussions and a lack of one-on-one expertise has hurt him in an ever-evolving fast game.

What does sacked mean ?

did he have a contract for next year ?
Wasn't offered one, so delisted, not sacked. Thomas and Hansen are expected to retire, especially given Hansen's history with concussions.

Might be the big fish?

Fast-tracking the rebuild. Greatest age drops of senior team from previous season:

North got through the season without a lot of flak. Think they had a fairly successful year, coming from where they did. Reckon it's a year too soon to be going for the Martin/Kelly-type signings, but not sure who's going to be available in 12 months.

Agree with that. Except I'd keep Waite for another year. If for nothing else but as insurance in case Brown goes down with an injury.

I'd also be open to moving Goldy on if there was a decent offer. We need to get more ruck time into the younger Preuss.

And what about Daw? Another who has had a lot of injuries and not delivered at a consistent level.

This is spot on. Was stringing together some excellent football from '13-'15 but his hips have slowed him across the ground and in terms of agility / mobility.
His awareness was always a question mark and when he wasn't getting consistent football his disposal dropped off.
Very highly regarded character and a shame he probably never reached his potential.
