Butcher boosts powerful Magpies

24mar06

PORT Adelaide Magpies will take on a powerful but temporary look with three Power regulars in its senior trial squad to play South Adelaide at Noarlunga.

The Magpies also will unleash former Glenelg wingman Troy Butcher for the first time tomorrow. Butcher left the Tigers last month and signed a two-year contract at Alberton last night. Darryl Wakelin, Michael Wilson and Gavin Wanganeen will have limited workouts with the Magpies. Jacob Surjan also will have a run. Matthew Lokan (Collingwood), who started at Alberton, Marc Bullen (Essendon), John Laird (Kangaroos), Shane Morrison (Richmond) - on AFL lists last year - and Crow Scott Stevens also will step out for the Magpies.
NORTH ADELAIDE has dropped experienced Daniel Hargraves and Chris Ladhams to the reserves for "disciplinary reasons" for its trial against Central District at Elizabeth.

North football manager James Moore said the players were dropped because of "a poor preparation" before last week's trial
.

Well at least he's enjoying life - pity for North as they probably have a chance at the flag if everyone pulled in the same direction.

You are basing this on ability rather than actual output of a player.
As far as talent is concerned, he is far superior to Doughty. We need to face the facts, Doughty doesn’t have the greatest skills in the team, he’s in the team because he’s a hard worker and he’s prepared to put the body on the line. But that’s basically all he does, he’s not a massive ball winner, his foot skills are reasonably good but nothing outstanding. Ladhams on the other hand is extremely skillful; he can win a game off his own boot. Last year he was brilliant for North and was amongst their best basically every game. But because of our depth, and some say his work ethic, he was never rewarded. So yes, I feel Ladhams has more to offer than Doughty.

So Craig woudn't play this match-winner and delisted him but he's better than Doughty who he did play and keep on the list?

Laurence Angwin had a lot of ability too - but never made it at AFL level after 2 delistments for obvious reasons.

A different set of circumstances for Ladhams, but Craig was totally justified with his treatment of Ladhams.

He's not prepared to do the right thing at SANFL level and you'd prefer him to Doughty on our list?

Natural talent is only a small part of what's required at AFL level and Ladhams doesn't have the balance of what's required.

His loss, not ours.

Now that opinion is the eaxact opposite of 90% of the views of this board......your not trying to impersonate OJ?

His footskills are acknowledged to be amongst the best in the team, his hands just as good.

I honestly think you've got your players confused?

I think Adam Saliba had more to offer than many players that were ever on the crows list. The guy had exquisite skills - Wonder why he didnt make it ?

Yeah and you can make that ridiculous judgement by reading a bit of text on the internet? Stay on your couch you ********ing spud, you don't have a clue.
Well hasn't Ladhams been in trouble before? Why is Hargraves in trouble as well? You stay on you couch... you don't need to get angry just like that.

Thats a bit over the top. Ladhams has shown this sort of behaviour before and jhust because he is a North Adelaide player doesn't mean he is beyond criticism.

Ladhams was dropped to reserves last year because he broke team rules. He gets dropped back to the reserves some 6 or so months later for again breaking the team rules. Couple that with his little indisgresions at Crows and I think there is a pattern and anyone calling Ladhams as trouble maker can certainly back it up with his past behaviour.

Take those rose coloured glasses off and look at things as they are rather than what you would want them to be.

Yeah but he has no idea, i still havent heard any proper reason about the droppings yet but its pre-season so who knows what is going on?
Hargraves? this clown dragged Hargs in to it and accused him of being a trouble maker when he doesnt even know anything about it, the blokes probably never even watched an SANFL game

I can't comment on Hargraves because I really have no idea what he is like and I am not following whats happening at North Adelaide.

However, I can't see there is too much wrong with what he said about Ladhams.

Am I mistaken in saying that Hargraves is part of the leadership group at Prospect??????

According to Darren Jarman on 5AA this morning, the 2 boys broke team rules that were made up by the playing group. Apparently the 2 players in question were out on the ******** until early hours of the morning.

Its a bit ironic that you're accusing him of making presumptions without knowing the facts, and then you make presumptions about the accuser without knowing the facts. How do you know if he's watched an SANFL game or not, or whether he knows something about Hargreaves we don't?

Hargraves the ex Bulldog player? Looks like Ladhams + Hargraves= Trouble makers.

Whats wrong with this? I mentioned Hargraves so I am wrong? Well if you read the atricle carefully both Ladhams and Hargraves got dropped because of disciplinary reasons. And I said it LOOKS LIKE Ladhams + Hargraves = trouble. Thats if I read the atricle correctly

Looks like the off field issues some of you allude to are still there....

Has automatically lost his licence for 6 months for blowing over 0.08 at 6:15pm Saturday....

Will be interesting to see if Jars takes any disciplinary action this week with quite a few injury concerns to contend with.

quite timely considering this thread, actually.

Doughty has one of his best games for the Crows and Ladhams gets done for DUI .....

Also ..... there seems to be a bit of problem in the SANFL at the moment with players getting into trouble off the field. Read Matt Cooper from the Eagles also is facing a drink-driving charge.

There seems to be a problem in a number of sports across the country. There was Morrison in the AFL and Maitua from the Bulldogs in the NRL on top of the SANFL guys. All you ever seem to hear is that it's a culture problem but nothing ever seems to be done about it.

I know what you mean. It would never happen to AFL players.

I didn't suggest it doesn't happen in the AFL, too.

But Ladhams, Cooper and Squire have all been in the news in recent weeks because of off-field issues. That's a pretty reasonable strike rate in a nine-club competition.

Or don't you think there's a problem?
