Yes, the umpiring stuff and the Rioli incidents have been handled abysmally.

But the sole reason why she should be sacked is because she is STILL unable to sort out a fair draft for all teams. Academies, pick bidding whatever - it’s an absolute disgrace.
Yeah, the former is a symptom of the latter.
 
If Laura didn’t know then she didn’t know, not much she can do about it ….. these 4 umpires should face some sort of sanction
She had access to audio and vision of the incident , if she didn't know it was because she was either willfully ignorant or too lazy / incompetent to take the most basic steps to find out the truth

Kane is ordinary, but look who her superiors are, Dillon who has been absolutely pathetic, but Goyder is the biggest problem at the afl. The bloke is literally invisible.

If you get rid of Goyder first the other two might actually lift their game a little. Dillon might be the first AFL ceo replaced though, he is a smart guy and was a good 2ic, but he just doesn't have the charisma to be a CEO to promote the game, especially when the chairman is bloody useless.

The only AFL event that has been promoted well in the past few years has been gather round and that's only because Peter Malinaskaus has taken the lead and promoted it for them. This shows what the game could be if they had at least 1 person in a leadership position at the AFL with even a slight hint of charisma, profile and promoting ability.
 
Needs to go, an absolute blight on the game, feels like it's being run into the ground with her ''leadership''. Andrew Dillon can also walk, both the two weakest leaders the AFL have had in decades.

I would be lining up Dillon, Goyder and Kane in that order. Urgent change needed but they will all hide behind commercial metrics that were set up by their predecessors

A lot of the criticism of Kane has inevitably veered in to misogyny so I haven't gone through it all, but I've only recently learned she's 34!?!? How on earth does she have the experience to be GM of a billion dollar product??

Laura Kane is out of her depth because she lacks the necessary experience and her decisions reflect that (about 30% of this thread) - not misogyny.

Waaah Wammin woke DEI (about 70% of this thread) - misogyny.

I reckon if a dude was 34 years-old there'd be way more heat on him than on Laura Kane.

As I have said, if you wanted a woman to be there, Peggy O'Neil was right there. No only is she far more experienced, but she came from a successful team in Richmond who won flags in her time there.

While I don't doubt her lack of ability, the AFL don't actually want a fair draft for all teams.

My club winning 2, 3 and 5 games has had picks 3 & 23, 1 & 30, 3 & 30.

Brisbane winning 15, 17, 14 games including two GF appearances and a flag has had picks 2 & 12, 23*, 5 & 25 in the same period, having traded two of their actual firsts (15 in 2022 and 23 in 2023) to get Josh Dunkley and later picks. They added a good player in his prime and 2 out of 3 years their draft hand was still comparable to a bottom 3 side.

The AFL thinks this is perfectly OK. Like the system not working isn't even a consideration.

If the pre-2009 priority pick rules were in place with the current FA compo rules, my club could potentially have picks 1, 2, 3 this year. The AFL would be having crisis meetings if this was the case.

Being a woman is an advantage, but you need to be connected. It used to be a boys club. Now it's a boys club, but certain girls can come too.

Gil is 52. Wayne Jackson hired him when he was 27. He was COO at 35 and CEO at 41. For almost a decade the AFL was run by a guy who is essentially just a management consultant from Accenture. He had no sports admin experience until he was brought in to the AFL.

They always seem to just find more lawyers, consultants etc. and put them in these positions. Meanwhile there are lot of people with extensive footy admin experience. You only have to look at Collingwood, Hawthorn, Richmond, Geelong, WB etc. to see where they were in the 80s and 90s vs where they are now. WC were a bankrupt nothing in the late 80s and now look at us (off field, don't look on field it's gross).

She's terrible at her job. Someone with credibility needs to call it out. But they won't.

It’s not just her though, it’s AFL House. I’m guessing here, but with inbreeding, doesn’t each generation tend to get progressively worse?
