So let me get this straight: Leigh Brown plays his first good match in nine appearances and people owe him an apology?

Christ almighty.

i don't think his in our best 22! however having said that he is great for depth! Solid body-Works hard-Good Mark-Conclusion; not a bad emergency just not in our best 22

I apologise were thinking you were a complete dud..... Your just a dud:thumbsu: a few more performances like that would be handy, but I still think he is stopping the progress of some of our young up and coming forwards in Dawes, Reid etc..... Not a bad emergency but

You really can't get into the spirit of a win or this thread can you?

Bash away, but save it for tomorrow perhaps.

Venting is going on.

I once spent a night in a 6 star penthouse, surrounded by the most beautiful and accommodating ladies I had ever seen. They waited on me hand and foot and when I could take no more I had to use the bathroom. The gold plated toilet flushed Crown Lager and a big screen TV showed endless highlights of Collingwood legends 24 hours a day. Instead of washing my hands two of the gorgeous ladies bathed them for me and blew them dry so as not to damage my fine skin.
As I walked out of the bathroom toward the pool full of every manner of beer and surrounded by seafood, cold meats, roast turkeys and a veritable cornucopia of the finest foods and chattels the world has to offer I brushed against a hand towel.

It was a little scratchy and it ruined my whole day.

Yes I am quite happy we've won but no, I'm not really getting into the spirit of this thread.

I'm not bashing Brown, he played good last night so why should I? Let's just hope everyones comments about him playing a blinder every 2-3 months isn't true. Will be interesting to see him play next week.

I am very happy Leigh Brown played a good game. It helped us win. I still don't believe he's very good, on average. His 5 bad games, 2 average games and 1 good game seem to back this up.

That's my thoughts too.

I have been hugely anti Leigh Brown from as soon as I heard we were intrested in drafting him and have been ever since. Last night he played a great game which is good but when talking about selections do you judge a player on their upper limits or the average preformance they dish up??????

If your given that much oppertunity then it would be worrying for a 200 gamer to not play at least one game here and there that shows he has some kind of ability. That doesn't change the fact that in general he doesn't have the required skills and over his career these sort of games where he has any impact are rariety's mixed in between no impact and a negative impact.

I think this thread would have been much better as a Leigh Brown congratulations thread.

Realistically, he has done what he has been recruited to do. And that is give a few contests and fill holes.

No doubt a very good game. I've knocked him since day 1, but was very pleased to see him do well yesterday. You won't get apologies from me but because to be honest, my comments about him have rightfully been based on a string of average games. 1 game is not going to make me apologise.

But i was very happy to see him play well. If he keeps up that sort of form and impact on games, then he will be a very handy recruit for the Collingwood Football Club.

I don't think going forward we should be relying on him to be the answer up forward, down back or in the ruck. And to be honest i think he has been pretty poor for the majority of the year.

But he will give you the odd game like yesterday, and he was quite good against West Coast and played well against Geelong but was too poor by foot.

He will hold his spot, and probably rightly so because Rocca is not going to give us those sort of contests around the ground. Cna't see us fielding a team with both Rocca and Brown in it...but at this stage i think Leigh Brown is ahead.

Hopefully young Dawes is taking note, because he obviously has more talent and potential that Brown, but he'll have to deliver those sort of contests around the ground to break his way into the side.

Few folks owe Leigh Brown a bit of recognition I would think. Few of you would be a little embarrassed tonight after comments like "he will always be sh*t etc". Couple of you particularly I will be looking for.

He may not be in our best 22 when everyones fit but his last two weeks have been good. He plays a role that is all about providing a contest and letting the ball get to the feet of the smaller blokes. Some of his bumps tonight were sensational and the two he delivered just before half time stopped them from getting another.

Dont make me call you out posters!!!
I am sorry but, while his game was good on Sunday, his year has not been worthy of a spot on the list let alone in the side. He was another poor Malthouse choice. He played his annual justification game and even that was far from special. Now we have to pay the price of his selection for the rest of the season. If he puts together half a dozen more like Sunday AND stops missing kickable goals then he will be owed an apology and the backslappers can say I told you so. It aint gunna happen!

Come on FU.
You know what I'm getting at regarding letting others enjoy at least some of the BF experience at least for short periods after wins....

Brown is a type of player we need to fill gaps and and was recruited for that specific purpose.
He has done a reasonable job a few times and an exceptional job tonight.
You could be excused for thinking we did not intend to be relying so heavily on him so frequently but in the wash up I personally don't mind him at all.

And for the record I don't think the side has dished up any negativity in any game. Negativity is there to be had in every situation, huge loss or massive victory, as are the positives.
Negativity or positivity (sic) is a product of the individual.

personally, I dont mind having L Brown around, he is there for one purpose and it is only thru injury that he has gotten a guernsey each week, but thats what he is there for. I think he does a job, he might not be the best at it, but he does a job. I dont think he is the answer up forward, I think he is more suited to down back, but down there his poor play can damage you twice over. He isn't in our best 22, and realistically for him to get into the best 22 on merit, either N Brown or Presti have to fall over.

As for the team not serving up negativity, thats what they have served up at times. If you look at the games that really count, the Geelong, the St Kilda and carlton games, only the Geelong game can you say we were close, the other two showed us just how far back we are in some vital areas and there was little damage control to stem the damage. Thats my biggest concern this year. We have no answers in the face of an onslaught. And thats the negativity.

Hopefully the answer will come from within, as players realise what they are capable of and that we can play this new style of football.
Even you would have to admit that there seems to be a complete change in tactic recently and it has taken a while for the side to implement the new mode of attack, occassionally falling back into old habits.

There is probably a while to go before the side grasps and fully adopts the direct corridor style but it is exactly what you were calling for and shows at the very least that Malthouse is willing to experiment, even though he himself believed we did not have the cattle to play this style.

Leon Davis form has been the catalyst for the confidence to try I think and I hope to see more of it even if we do drop a game or two. Its worth the effort in the long term.

Carlton and St Kilda, no matter how you cut it were both going to happen with our injuries.
I went to the Carlton game in spite, I never expected a win, just to show the colours. You always hope but hope alone can't cover half of your best 22 even if you are Geelong.

The biggest hurt this year has been ANZAC Day because, being right there, you could physically feel the foot come off the pedal with 6-7 minutes to go....I felt it in my waters...we got cocky and tried to milk the clock and paid the ultimate price. 4 points we had in the bag and let out through inexperience and arrogance.

Didnt this cause some division...... my intent was not to cause division after a great win and hopefully a season defining one.

Ultimately I just got sick of some posters labelling this bloke as perpetually useless and incapable of ever playing a good game. I dont think that stuffs fair and when they are proven wrong they should fess up......

I was certainly in the camp of him being pretty ordinary since he started and that he wasnt in the best 22. Still not convinced he is in best 22 but at least he showed that he is capable of being a depth player.

Also good to see him show people that he can play at least 1 good game.

Lets move on.........

I gave him a new nickname too. I dubed him The Rusian. As in Rusian Roulette because he may not fire a shot most of the time but when he does he'll kill ya.

Good game by Leroy.

But i dont think apologies are in order - people who have bagged him have had fair reason to just look at his performances pre-last nights game.

I hope he can play the way he did last night every week but we all know that aint going to happen.

But last night showed when he plays well he can be important to the side.

I like it. One bullet in the chamber. Does that make him a blank for the rest of the year?

You know he looks to me like he could just be one of those blokes that somehow gets into a GF and pulls one out of his backside. It’s about time we had on our side in a GF. Hopkins, Dear, Caven, Ellis….Brown….

come on guys everything he did on the weekend was fantastic

FANTASTIC tackles
FANTASTIC goals
FANTASTIC mark
FANTASTIC intercepts
FANTASTIC clangers

he is just plain FANTASTIC, in fact just call him Mr.FANTASTIC!

No apologies needed from yours truly. I always thought he was an excellent depth choice to flesh out a pretty inexperienced list, and especially considering the injury history of some of our experienced kpp's. Cheap, relatively young, injury free, versatile, tough, big bodied 180 gamers dont usually grow on trees and it was worth the punt to take him with our last pick.

The only problem I have had has been with him playing second ruck when Wood and Bryan were fit and playing well in the VFL.

He is still a backup player who has played more games than he has deserved.

It was a great game, but North fans have been telling us he puts in a blinder only to return to his usual form.

Next 2 weeks will decide his career almost...will find it very hard to come back in once all hands are on deck.

Well next week we all get a chance to see if they are right. :thumbsu:
Let's hope they're wrong.

But has he been that choice?

Seems to me he has been chosen as a best 22 player.

He finally has been used correctly as a back-up for the past two weeks, with Rocca Rusling Cloke Reid and Medhurst all missing and Dawes and Macaffer needing more time in the VFL, and Bryan pretty much a hack.

Which was exactly my point about him playing second ruck for no valid reason. Happy for him to be on the list but the selectors made an error early in the year with the one ruck policy.
