Leppa sacked

Fair enough, must have been a seismic shift in attitude this year. Apologies if I got it wrong.

We have pretty low standards as set by our previous administrations but Swann actually gets football, so has definitely seen some off-field improvements and provided some stability and AFL HQ communications. He's not perfect but it's much better than the shitfest of Bowers and Holmes that we've had through before.

What time does mad Monday start though? W
About 4.30pm yesterday.

They'll be blind. There is no way I'd want the players anywhere near the club right now. Better off getting the message to them quickly and then allowing them to continue to drown their sorrows after one of the shittiest years in our history.

Sharpless wasn't great to watch at all. Using the 2013 season wins as justification was ridiculous.

What time does mad Monday start though? Would any of the players be sober/they're probably all off at a pre-booked venue. Decision was only made ~12pm according to the presser.
He should of added "when we sacked the last coach"

You almost wish we still had Fev at the club for a comment. Almost.

The only thing clear from Sharpless is he is a bumbling idiot ... He called it hand passing FFS.

FWIW, when I was young the terms handball and handpass were used interchangeably. At least in QLD anyway.

Yeah on reflection the email thing isn't as bad as it sounds - not much the club really could've done there. We needed to act swiftly and let's face it, the outcome was inevitable.

Sharpless on the other hand was disgraceful. I finished watching that press conference, content the right decision was being made, but with less confidence in my club that I've ever felt before. I wouldn't be surprised if some players responded to that with a "F this, I'm outta here".

Swann was fine, not his best performance but I think he was genuinely torn. Seemed like good mates with Leppa.

On Leppa, well his hands were tied. I'm not convinced he would've been a great head coach given better circumstances but I think he will always be a fine assistant and add a lot to any organisation. He was on a hiding to nothing as Brisbane coach.
From a rebuild perspective I think we'll look back on his tenure with the club like we think of Robert Walls - he laid the foundation for future success. Unfortunately he'll never be able to bear the fruit of the seeds he sowed but the rusted ons will no doubt appreciate his endeavours.

Good. Was never up to it and shouldn't have been hired. Now Sharpless should piss off too and stop wrecking our club.

i think it was the right decision although i feel so sad for Justin on a non football level.

he has 3 young children 6, 10 and 11 year old, wonder if he stays in brisbane or has to uproot his family and move interstate for further opportunities. kids out of school and all the associated hassle with a move. the only option to stay would be the suns.

just the thought of what he is going through emotionally right now is enough to bring a tear to my eye.

bon voyage and good luck in the future Leppa.

Also beat up about players being emailed is over the top. Board meeting at 10am, presser at 1pm. 3 hours to get stuff in to gear and deal with the most important person of the day, Leppa. Pretty sure the players aren't shocked by the decision either, writing has been on the wall. Not enough time to bring all the players in and do it in person.

I don't know if the players are doing it today, but it's potentially Mad Monday.

In my experience, a secret ballot is best used to deal with a situation where there are one or more really strong opinions around the board table and the Chairman feels that directors may not feel comfortable with an open ballot being held. That seems pretty appropriate in these circumstances.

However, even if an open ballot was held, it doesn't mean that the rest of us will be provided with the exact results. Board solidarity says that, once a decision has been reached, each director must support that decision. The alternative, if you feel you can't support the decision, is to resign your directorship. That's the only (formal) way to know if a director voted for or against a particular motion. Otherwise, directors abide by the majority decision.

So there's no loss of "transparency" by holding a secret ballot. Open or secret, we're unlikely to know which directors voted which way.

Unless there is a leak at board level, which clearly there is and some members didnt want the unwashed masses to know how they voted. Then the secret ballot has a different function.

Players found out via email. Okaaaay then.

There is ANOTHER major mistake!! How unprofessional are we for crying out loud!

....and I found out via txt from a Pies friend at 1.08.....my email from the club didn't come in until 1.15. WTF!!

I am so bloody ropeable right now...I hate the world. I want this board gone...G.O.N.E!

Don't think Monday stops some of them during the season.. i'm sure they are well into it by now.

And the Board got their scapegoat. I wonder how much our AFL assistance has just increased.

Mark Robbo said on SEN that even though the AFL are giving us money, it doesn't give them the right to say who coaches....and if they try to, we should hand them the keys and tell them to run the club cos we are outta here.

I sit on a board of 7 in an organisation with a turnover of $200m pa.

We each of us frequently express strong- even very strong- opinions but we state them openly, so everyone is fully aware of where we might sit on any given issue.

So far as I'm concerned this is how effective boards should operate. Openly and honestly.

Our chair frequently says that each of us carries equal authority. Certainly none of us is afraid of the repercussions a contrary viewpoint might bring.

I happen to agree with this particular board decision- just not how they arrived at it. Secret ballot my arse.

An embarrassment in the other goose with Vossy, now this bloke with Leppa.

Let Leigh take over the role, to face any media stuff.

Leigh hasn't gone out on a limb in the media for us this year. Don't expect he will suddenly change that, particularly when we generally believe he would have voted for leppa to stay.

Give me a loud mouth like Aker as a club representative. He would at least fly the Cl b flag long and loud, even if inappropriate at times.

The decision on who will be on the panel to select next coach is nearly as important.. Their needs to be 4/5 wide ranging people who make this call on our next coach. I'm hoping the AFL don't have a big say in it but i am guessing they will.

I would have the following on my panel to appoint the next head coach..
Parkin - Walls - A well respected business identity with no ties to the club - Swann you would imagine will be a part of the process. Perhaps a key stakeholder from one of our major sponsors, that way they feel like they are a part of the process going forward. I would even sound out Malthouse if Walls or Parkin didn't want to be a part of the process. Dare i say it the AFL may even ask to have someone sit it on the interviews.

There could be some players really hurting right now.... But don't worry about managing the process/communication properly because the players have a piss up??

I'm sure people from the club are communicating with them but it would be impractical to get them all together and go through it right now given the celebrations and fact that a lot of them will be off their face. More appropriate to do it sometime later this week.

Not like it will come as a shock to any of them, out of the blue. It was very likely that this would be the result of today's meeting, and all would have been very aware.
I don't think this was a situation that needed a "Sit down, we've got to tell you something".
