The facts
-We have a new coach who has worked under the best football system in the league for the past decade
-We have 5 new enthusiastic young players; many of which have been starved of opportunity and are at the right age for our club's development
-We have 4 first round draft picks to build a solid foundation upon. Weltering is as highly a touted a number 1 as has ever been seen and isn't just a great defender but provides exceptional rebound and smarts around the contest
-We've traded 3 players who didn't want to be there. All are conditional in their efforts, all had problems with their attitude and match-day application and each continued to perpetuate and embellish the problems of the club
-Our midfield on paper stacks up with most top 8 midfields in the league. A starting 4 of Kreuzer, Murphy, Gibbs and Cripps has a good mix of inside grunt, foot skills and class on the outside. If Bolton can fire them up and get the best out of them, we become very dangerous.
-The continued ascension of Patrick Cripps. In 2015 Bontempelli took his game up another gear and Crippa is likely to follow suit. Add some more toe and more accuracy in front of goal and he'll become a Top 20 mid before the year is out.
-The unknowns in Byrne and Sheehan. Both showed tremendous signs when on the park and could lock down positions.

Nobody could have anticipated the rise of the Bulldogs in 2015 and it goes to show how valuable it is letting go of players who don't want to put in to your football club. They invested in their young players and allowed a positive, do-or-die attitude that's infectious and permeates the culture of the group.

With Bolton, you get the impression he'll bring a bit of joy and freedom to the group and won't settle for mediocrity. I also don't think he'll adapt an ultra-defensive gameplay to counteract the inexperience of the group. He'll teach the boys to play two-way football, with precision, a more structured approach and an emphasis on quick ball movement - just like the Hawks.

I'm not saying we'll make a surprise push for the 8 but I'm not so sure we're certainties for the wooden spoon either. If we can find enough avenues to goal, we'll surprise a few teams. Sitting out most of 2015 will have hopefully freshened Gibbs, while Thomas is a complete unknown and if he can get on the park he could be quite valuable.

Overall, stay positive! We're finally on a mission to amend the mistakes of the past and create our own destiny without resorting to shortcuts or relying on a few key figures at the club.

I can sense that the past two weeks has been a big step in deciding the future of the club and I'm eager to see what the new recruits can produce, as well as those lucky enough to make their way onto our list in November.

Lets view 2016 with an open mind and enjoy the little victories, as well as the big ones.

How about we start with Richmond in Round 1 ;)

Meh, honestly it can't get much worse.....can it??
At least we're not playing 2 or 3 short every week

We have nothing to lose. We are universally seen as the weakest team in the competition.

The way we played against Port Adelaide proves that although we might be light on for talent, if the attitude is there, the results will come.

2016 isn't going to be very pretty.

However, for the first time in a long time, I think we finally have the senior playing group who can give there all and help develop the younger players. There is no Yaz, no Robbo (yes, he worked hard but in other ways he wasn't the ideal player for younger players to look up to), no Garlett, etc. We've quickly become the "no idiot zone" and that's important. If there is anything you can give Mick Malthouse and co credit for beginning then it's that. We wont reap the visible benefits overnight but we will over the long term.

This is the makings of a club that can contend for a premiership by 2020. A three year plan should be looked upon as to make a legitimate finals side with ta rise in that fourth year before being LEGIT the fifth year (2020).

We'll miss Bell but additions of Kerridge, Plowman and hopefully Lamb should improve our competitiveness from round 1.

Biggest issue is fitness and if the new regime can flog us on the training track then Bolton will be able to execute a game plan.

It's not about wins but erasing those embarrassing losses where the result was pretty much decided by half time.

Let's continue to play 'the kids'.

Looking forward to more jokes about ex teammates kicking more goals than the entire team. Nah all good. No injuries and we will be competitive.

We won't finish last as we have a better list than a few...

Hard to believe but we have...!

A new fresh coach with an uncomplicated game plan a decent run with injuries, as in so e of our experienced players...

2016 is going to be very tough but I am actually looking forward to it. We have turned the corner and with the next batch of draftees we continue to build for the future. We got rid of some bludgers, Menzel included, who did not put in. We got good returns for all of them, including Yazz IMO.

They had to go. Even Menzel was concerning me. I understand he may have been carrying injuries but he just couldn't impact games sufficiently for my liking. After 3 seasons this was not a good sign and if the 'go-home' factor was a slight concern I think the club did the right thing to facilitate the GWS4 swap.

The team is young and susceptible but I think they can forge ahead together and start building towards some success down the track. GO BLUES!!!

Can't wait to see how creative we get with these draft picks.

SOS seems to think outside the square a bit and matches players with roles, rather than positions. The jury is still out on Plowman but it was a brave move taking him at three, Pickett and Ahern didn't loom as early selections but he saw something others didn't, Rory Lobb at 28, James Stewart at 36.

He's keen on attacking, versatile players with good skills. The modern game demands a free-flowing, attacking style of play and we've just invested in 3 of these.

We could have a better list on 2 grounds

a. The players that are on the park play for the club
b. We minimize injuries.

Get those 2 factors into a reasonable state and we'll have a better year

What pleases me is how little fanfare has been made... SOS playing with straight bats, haven't heard a peep from Bolton bar emailing congratulating me and my son for renewing our memberships... If we still had Mick we'd have a quote a day.

I think we now have a young core that can build together with a fresh coach and develop the right attitudes to be successful. It's hard to say this but the only laconic players we have left are Gibbs, and Warnock (who is gone you'd think) and Andres to a slight degree....

Gibbs will improve under Bolton me thinks... And can see Cripps, Docherty, Buckley stepping up into big leaders for our new younglings. Also all this freshness will bring in an extra kick into the step of Simpson and Jamo
