Levi had surgery today. Hopefully everything went well!!

Levi Casboult won't take the field against the Saints with Richardson revealing the young forward had "split his kidney" and had surgery on Wednesday. The injury is not expected to have any long-term health implications for the 22-year-old.

He kicked them straight where he aimed at Metricon - a little right. He is very fixable as is but would like a total rebuild over summer where he arches the back forward and almost places the ball on his boot like Hudson and Lockett did

It would be nice if he could kick like that. Just picturing it in my head, you'd want to have fairly long arms for that to work.

Levi has reminded me of Tom Hawkins for so long. The only difference is Geelong started giving him a go and persisting a lot earlier and we relied on the VFL system to develop him. It's a pity they are so much alike (kicking).

Levi has his chance now and he has had 2 PCL injuries over the past 2 years has hindered his development a fair bit.

But I reckon that next year, after a good preseason and a lot of kicking training to boot, he will really do a Tomahawk and become our main target up front.

If Malthouse comes to Carlton, Casboult, Waite and Mitchell will all play next year. This excites me.
How do you figure that?

The board will demand Cloke come as a package. I'd anticipate minimal game time for Mitchell and Casboult, particularly if the Hampson experiment is continued.

Because this has been his philosophy and beliefs on forward line structure. Last team he coached had Cloke, Dawes and Brown plonked in the forward line and IMO, one of the reasons Collingwood and Cloke/Dawes impact has been diminished this season is because they have not replaced Brown who was underrated in their success. Ratts never really believed in being two tall. Two talls or 1 tall and one medium was the go I have always felt under rats. For the record Collingwood's runner up sides in 2002 (Rocca, Tarrant, Fraser) and 2003 (Tarrant, Cloke, Walker) also contained 3 tall forwards. I expect minimal game plan as well. Though I expect a stronger influence on big strong bodies in the center and less of an influence on pace, though we have shown this influence in the second half of the season even if it was forced. Would not be surprised to see, Say for example Judd starting outside the square and come charging through at center bounces, while the bigger bodied, stronger players fight for it in the center. I don't think how we look to move the ball will change a lot. I think we may learn how to hold onto it and slow our movement up a bit more and we may look to switch play more too which we did a lot less of this season. Collingwood also functioned a bit different at stoppages too. They were big on forward momentum and not allowing the opposition forward momentum. We have done this poorly this year and it will be interesting to see if he can fix this. There will be a lot of other little things we will never know about and most likely never pick up on either but all those years in football teaches a bloke a lot.

I don't think I get many serious replies from you BF? But most of us have bendable spines and although Hudson was known to have long arms I think Lockett would pretty much be a heavier version of Levi

Coach, I thoroughly enjoy your posting and football knowledge, but I struggle to pass up a good debate at times. Also I am probably not on topic very often. :p
I think you might be right actually, going back and looking at footage of Lockett. Either way though, as close to that action as possible would be good. There is very little chance of error if the ball gets no chance to move in the air during the drop.

Lockett was an excellent kick for goal, Dunstall not bad either, there have been players around who have been just as good at getting the ball as those two but no where near as good of kicks. I think emulating them is easier said than done. He will come good, Hawkins has, even if it took him years.

Correct, very good assessment, Levi's ball drop leaves far too much margin for error, I described it in another thread a couple of weeks ago as "looking like it is parachuting down to his boot" it is that high!

JK and Coach, I might be wrong, but I seem to remember Allan as having a beautifully correct kicking action with little margin for error. Ruck forward coach???? (Partly Joking)

Matthew Allan???

If so was a very accurate kick, but too dopey for today's footy:p

And ended up playing for Essendon...

Absolutely. I just remember when he was still in his first few years, thinking that he has a beautiful shot for goal. Just that kind of action we were discussing, with the arms outstreched and the boot nearly taking it out of his hands.
gbatman is right. Mick was on radio recently preaching about the importance of having a 3 talls and 3 smalls forward line.
Pfft... He's never tried the joys of a six man small forward line... Or a six man small back line...

Funny enough the Hawks and Cats have a similar philosophy. Though don't believe in it quite as much as mick. I recon we have the right breed of cattle for his game style. Mitchell, Waite and Levi could be very very good players and Rowe and Hampson are no mugs.

Agree with the 3 Tall Forwardline Philosophy. Have been saying that for a long time.

Could see Us going in with

Waite
[tall forward]
Warnock/Hampson as main ruck
Kreuzer in Leigh Brown role.

OR

Waite
[tall forward]
Kreuzer as main ruck
Casboult in Leigh Brown role.

Would be happy to see Waite, Casboult, Hampson, Walker, Betts and Garlett starting forward come rnd 1.

Think Betts and Garlett would be even more dangerous around goal with 3 talls to work with.

If Cloke came on board Hammer may be the sacrifice with levi doing backup ruck.
