Liam Jurrah in 2010

Comrades.

With a solid pre-season behind him, what do you think Liam Jurrah will achieve in 2010?

What would be a good year compared with a great year?

We come back to this later in 2010 and see who was closest to the pin. First prize is a date with CatsPremiers2007.

You would think he is unlikely to be dropped to the seconds, but at the same time he'll get more attention from opposition this year.

I just want to see consistancy from him and Ill be happy.

I'd be happy if he just avoided the 2nd year injury problems that affected Davey and Wonna.

This is number one hope for 2010 :thumbsu:

I think he can play 17 games and kick 42 goals. Would be very happy if he surpassed this but I also (playing devils advocate here and hate it!) wouldnt be surprised if he had a mid season lull, then came good again towards the end. He will get a heap more attention than last year and will have more pressure on him. Admittedly the pressure doesnt seem to phase him in the least but I think a longer season will stretch him a little.

I'm just hoping that he plays with the same approach to the game as he did last season. I want to see the high marks, overhead snaps and one-handers.

I wouldn't like to quantify my expectations of his performance next season too much, but I don't think 40+ goals is beyond him.

What position will he play once he's fully developed?

Obviously a very good tall forward but looks pretty good on the run as well.

I think he'll play as our third marking forward. Brad Miller will do that bullocking work at CHF. Matthy Bate will play a lead up role, which will allow him to cover a bit more ground. I think you'll find that the stay at home forward will be a combination of Newton, Dunn, Watts, or even Sylvia and Bate at times. We've even been hearing that Col Garland might find himself down there this year. Bailey likes to have that flexibility.

I just don't want him to lose his spark like Davey has. Don't get me wrong, Davey is probably our best player but he doesn't do those x factor things anymore. I just want Jurrah to continue to be that young footy player from the outback doing his thing on the AFL national stage.

Spot on!

Just want Jurrah to keep his instinctive style of play, that is what will make him unpredictable and super hard to match up on.

This year will obivously have more attention from opposition players and I am confident he will back up last seasons form and then some.

I pretty much agree with most points here, especially being injury free.

I hope we don't go to him too often, we need to keep his x-factor and let him exploit his niche without putting him under pressure and being predictable. He will no doubt have a lot more opp. players in his face and normally I would be concerned but he is quite switched on and confident.

If injury free, he'll get at least 18 games IMO. Depending on trying different forward routines and general fatigue, he may be given the odd spell. 40 goals at least and a heck load more bums on seats watching in 2010. This would be a pretty good year IMO, it is a very good return from Liam without taking the focus away from other forwards who need to develop as well.

was it a dream or did I hear somewhere that Jurrah hurt his knee at training????

Please tell me that this was just in a horrible nightmare that you had?????

20 games - 47 goals.
If I win the prize, can I accept a cash equivalent instead?

Dont worry, Juka understands that other clubs will be targeting him & putting their better defenders on him. He is a confident (not arrogant) young man, the things he did last year is the tip of the ice berg. With his first real pre season he will be fitter, stronger & better. Dean Bailey & the coaching staff @ the Dees would & should know not to change the way he plays too much if at all. Knowing Liam he will do what ever is asked of him for his team, his team mates & the coaching staff.

Good ol' SEN... I'm stll waiting for that ruckman, Maric, that has done little for us to come good. I remember Ox telling us about him last year.

Comrade, if you enter the comp and win the prize, you're off to the Lara drive-in for a romantic night with CP2007 and the choc-tops.

Me, I get the sense that it is either going to be chocolate or boiled lollies with Liam.

Erring on the side of optimism, I am going to predict 60 goals.

Isn't it good to have a player that gets the old heart a'pumpin !

I agree Biff, I think Liam should have a standout season this year, but in rating his season in terms of goals kicked may not give us a true indication of his development... Bail's will probably try to get him up the ground to ensure the 4th or 5th defender trys to go with him, floating back towards goal as an opportunist goal sneak...

I also believe there will be a forward setup, where there will be a small dedicated to stay with his tall team mate & be like a paired structure, 3 x tall/small forwards together, a senior player is likely to be with Liam, most likely Aaron.. If this works as planned look for some high scores for us this year....

I just want to know that he his ways haven't been curbed by the coaching staff, let Liam Jurrah play like Liam Jurrah.

Teach him new things by all means but don't make him change anything about his game, that's when things could become a problem for him.
Excellent point Dez!

Mahoney has the job of giving our forward line an over all structure and balance but we don't want him regimenting each component. Liam is liquid football so we have to let him flow.

I really don't see any need for Josh Mahoney or the footy department to change Liam too much at all. I watched the defensive side of his game a few times last year. He chased fairly hard, played his part in zones, set blocks for his fellow forwards and used his body to stop opponents from running off him. His defensive work could have been a little better, but what forward is not guilty of this... It was obvious he was doing his best to play his part for the team.

The other stuff, the Jurrah magic, will look after itself.
