Lied about Welsh

He was always using us as a "bargaining tool" to increase the pressure and contract he would get from Essendon.

Didn't want the poser at Collingwood anyway, and just showed the gullibility of the media in actually believing their was any real link to Collingwood.

Probably a "Caroline Wilson" special this one. (That is a story that is blown out of all proportion just to make a headline).

I expect the real story to be more so along the lines of Welsh didn't want to leave, but they didn't offer him the 3 year contract he wanted. So naturally he asked around to check out the interest from other clubs.

Collingwood when they became supremely confident about picking up Luke Ball at pick 30 I expect said no to him. So he was left with no other choice but to resign with Essendon.

So no he didn't particularly want to leave Essendon, but just he wanted the best possible deal. And at the end of the day that was with Essendon unfortunately for him.

Personally never had an interest in him, and I was either Ball or normal draft approach. Don't see Welsh as being much of an upgrade on Ben Johnson really, so better off taking a chance through the draft on a kid like Taylor/ Thomas.

Although this is probably true, you have to sort of take into account that now he is a signed Bomber he isn't really likely to say anything controversial against the club.

He is hardly going to come out and say that Essendon were screwing him and he wanted to go to Collingwood, he is virtually obliged to create a fluff piece to please the fans - which is understandable.

Aker would :D

I'm not a poster with too many "sources" howaver I have a pretty good one on Welshy. From what I was told he defintiely was considering walking at Essendon and Collingwood had expressed interest.

This obviously didn't eventuate and there is a chance that my friend was full of shite however I expect there was more to this than has been reported. Possibly a story written to placate the bomber fans.

who cares ball was the man we wanted and he was the man we got.
walsh is still the enemy and that will stay that way for another 2 years:)

Aker would :D
Which is why I love listening to Aker in the media. That man will have a long and successful career post-football. :thumbsu:

He'd only be a fringe player with us anyway. So whilst I reckon he would have been good to have, he is certainly no Luke Ball :thumbsu:

Her you have the answer in one. This is not just specualtion on my part as it happens every time a player tries to shop himself around and fails to get the deal he wants.

The exact opposite thing happens when they do get a deal at another club in that the club he left then makes it well known they did not want him anyway.

It's just human nature.
