Well, it's lazily implied in these discussions and things like the often-used picture of Barry Richards above that weight is the issue, and that batsmen these days are using bigger, heavier bats, which isn't necessarily the case.

It's not quite as simple as "make the bat smaller".

Given this, how do people propose bat makers "de-evolve" their product? They can't just "shave a bit off the back".

Also, can anyone thing of any other sport that has either outlawed or deliberately halted or reversed the evolution of the equipment and technology used in the sport? The only other instance I can think of is the ban on full body suits in swimming.
Easy. The only other game similar to Cricket. Baseball. They limited bat size and also removing the ability to use metal bats (unlike teenagers) because they were smacking them out the park too easy.

Not sure aluminium bats were ever in use in Major League Baseball to be honest. They are in junior and college baseball, though.

Go wash your mouth out boy!

Tennis limited the overall length of the racket in order to reduce the "potency of the serve"; i.e. slow it down. Presumably less leverage, therefore less speed.

I thought golf banned the broomstick putter, but apparently they only limited its use in ways that made it non-advantageous.

How is it like T20, they almost never score it baseball. I had a Word Series game on last year where it was over 3 hours and nobody had scored yet ffs. Worse than soccer!
Because they swing like baseballers and there is in game music

They banned anchoring clubs to your chin or mid-riff, understandably

That wasn't a de-evolution. It was the zenith of bat making :)

Yes, I purchased a scoop and couldn't believe the speed at which the ball left the bat. I wasn't hitting any harder but the ball would race off the blade like a bullet. I loved my scoop :)

Agree with the first part, which is why I advocated a regulation on moisture content rather than size because it's a truer indicator of weight. Although to an extent it is that simple, you force smaller bats with smaller edges, and batmakers have to think outside the box for the next big thing.

For context I just took out my 2014 kooka and gave it a measure and it turns out while I consider that a 'big bat' (to the point I rarely use it in favour of a handcrafted English GM) it falls just within the new guidelines, so Warner isn't going to be restricted to a small stick by any means.
