Easy. The only other game similar to Cricket. Baseball. They limited bat size and also removing the ability to use metal bats (unlike teenagers) because they were smacking them out the park too easy.Well, it's lazily implied in these discussions and things like the often-used picture of Barry Richards above that weight is the issue, and that batsmen these days are using bigger, heavier bats, which isn't necessarily the case.
It's not quite as simple as "make the bat smaller".
Given this, how do people propose bat makers "de-evolve" their product? They can't just "shave a bit off the back".
Also, can anyone thing of any other sport that has either outlawed or deliberately halted or reversed the evolution of the equipment and technology used in the sport? The only other instance I can think of is the ban on full body suits in swimming.
