We should have another close look at the free agents list and find some experienced players who play with pride in the jumper and consistency in their game. I don't care if they are 30. Don't give me the line about players in our next premiership team blah blah. The way we are travelling they haven't been born yet. We need guys who can set an example, get this club back on the rails and start the journey towards a premiership.

We have

27-28 yo (?) Schulz

big gap

Butcher

We have a need for a key forward who is ready to play. Th coaches don't see Salter as the answer.

Dawes is a good size, right age, has kicked 30 goals in a year, can stay on the park. At worst he would be a solid backup player and might stop us from going to complete shit when Schulz misses games.

I would literally rather have Jack Anthony. At least his one good year was better than Dawes' one good year.

If the spud can't even average a goal a game at Collingwood, he'd be lucky to get a goal a season at Port Adelaide.

Especially after we shift him to full back alongside Nick Salter. ;)

every time I think about Nick Salter I want to stop following AFL, it stops me from having any belief, what has happened to the man..

They don't need to be a superstar. Just a half decent player who can back up Schulz and Butcher.

Dawes has averaged 1.5, 1.5 and 1.2 goals in other years, so that's 3 years where if he was given a decent run he could have realistically ended up on 30+ goals. He is having a bad year now so he would probably come cheap but I can't see any reason why he can't find some decent form again?

He has other strings to his bow too if he can part time it in the ruck. Must be pretty strong/athletic, might even make a good key defender if the key forward thing doesn't work out.

Anthony is different. He is too short to be a tall forward and has no strings to his bow. Bit like Ebert.

Here is Rucci's quick fix from the free agent list.

Recruiting quick fix to jolt Power

He includes names like Adcock, Knights, Monfries, Russell, Dyson and ... Minson

Excellent, let them all go, who wants out let them jump into the frying pan. I have no emtional attachment to players of his era in our side as they are soft.

Very happy with:
Adcock

Reasonably happy with:
Moloney
Monfries
Dyson
Rivers (really couldn't see this one happening though)

Wouldn't mind:
Knights
Russell

**** off Rucci:
Slattery
Moore
Minson
Byrnes
Murphy
Bate
McGuane (lol'ed at swap for Troy Chaplin, Troy has his faults but he's twice the player of McGuane)

They don't need to be a superstar. Just a half decent player who can back up Schulz and Butcher.

Right now, Dawes isn't even that. Then again, he's been better for Collingwood than Schulz was for Richmond, so who knows how he'd go if we got him. Fair point on Dawes v Anthony.

If Rucci posted on the main board here, you wouldn't waste your time on him.
All the hallmarks of an absolutely classic troll.
Just sayin'.

Adcock, don't be basing your assessment on Dreamteam points. A young lad that has played one good year ?2006/2007? and played 6 ok games this year. Yeah I wouldn't waste time consulting. Monfries, a forward flanker, I'm sure we have read multiple times the only thing we don't want in any draft is ANOTHER flanker. Dyson, is he worth what we would have to pay him, I think not. Moloney, yes. Rivers, yes yes yes. Knights/Russell, neither here nor there, happy if we got either won't loose sleep if dont

2 things.

1) We will be delisting a ****ton of flankers.
2) Free Agency isn't draft, we get the player without giving up draft capital (eg. draft picks/tradeable players)

Summary: This is a method by which Porthos endorses the recruitment of flankers, within reasonable wage limits. They still need to be decent though.

from knightmare(km) and chris25's(c25) mock draft threads. these are the guys ild be hugely interested in.

5. Port Adelaide - Sam Mayes (187cm midfielder - North Adelaide)c25

He might have been called a forward last year, but he is well and truly a midfielder now. No doubt in my mind. All he needs to do now is to continue to develop his inside game which will happen the more he plays, so he can get to that Pendlebury level. His kicking is top notch, arguably the best in the draft and his marking is also very strong - no doubt from his time spent as a lead up forward. Just a really classy player.

#6 Western Bull Dogs - Sam Mayes (SA – Fwd/Mid)km
Height: 187cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 20/05/1994
Recruited from: North Adelaide
Style: Steve Johnson
Player comparison:
Range: 5-20
Profile: Leadup forward who can also push into the midfield and have an impact. The standout feature of Mayes’ game is his kicking ability and it would have to be the best in the draft, just so good by foot and hits his targets and around goal just never misses. Has great pace and can really burst away from the trailing defender with ease. Marking ability very strong for a player of his size so there is allot to work with. Long term with Mayes the view would be for him to develop into a midfielder and with his great footskills, speed then ability when pushing forward to present as a marking target he looms as an ideal player to have in your rotation. But will take some time to develop into a high level midfielder and might benefit from learning off other high level midfielders.
Why:

7. Western Bulldogs - Dayle Garlett (180cm midfielder - Swan Districts)c25

Garlett is one of those who could go either way on draft day - on talent alone he is a top 10 pick. He has had a few off field issues, being left out of a few squads and missing games. But that doesn't worry me, from all reports it doesn't sound like anything particularly worrying. An 18 year old not being a complete professional is hardly earth shattering stuff. But he is doing everything right at the moment. On field, he is a seriously quick midfielder with excellent skills. One of the most damaging players in the draft.

#5 Port Adelaide- Dayle Garlett (WA – Mid/Fwd)km
Height: 181cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 09/01/1994
Recruited from: Swan Districts Football Club
Style:
Player comparison: Harley Bennell
Range: 5-35
Profile: Quality outside midfielder who can sneak forward and have an impact. Showed a fair bit of talent through the 2011 U18 champs and again in 2012 has played some excellent football and really put forward a strong case suggesting that he should be selected early. Garlett has game-breaking pace and uses it to advantage with regularity and is willing to take running bounces and take the ball as far as the opposition let him. Decision making excellent and even when pressured or in congestion still makes the right decision most of the time. Finishing around goal good. Left footer with some nice penetration and hurt factor on his kick. Can use his right boot and use it well. Can really hit the scoreboard and be very damaging with the influence he can have on some games. Also when the ball hits the ground I like how he immediately has that quickness of mind and body to get to the ball quicker than everyone and quickly get the ball onto hit boot for a goal. I like it that despite his lack of size that he is still capable of winning his own ball and playing on the ball and not just outside. Dayle still needs to build more strength through the hips so that he can stand up in tackles, but there is a fair bit to like about his game. Also defensively can continue to get better to compliment his incredible offensive game. I’m hearing some real discipline issues which may see Garlett slide down the draft more than his talent deserves. Will be really interesting to see how clubs evaluate Garlett as he is an unbelievable talent, but the risk is there. Likely the end of season interviewing will decide his eventual draft position but certainly on the field has done everything right and produced some big games.

10. Richmond - Oliver Wines (185cm midfielder - Bendigo)c25

Other than my beloved South Australians, I think Ollie Wines might be my favourite player. The first time I saw him live, I became a fan. You could hear him hitting the packs from the stands. I would rate Wines as the best clearance and contested ball player in the draft. I would liken him to Rhys Palmer, but with a better kick. Speaking of which, while not elite by any means, his kicking is solid and he delivers inside 50 to his forwards advantage. Wines is just a natural midfielder. I would have no problems using a top 5 pick on him.

#4 Melbourne – Oliver Wines (VIC - Mid)km
Height: 185cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 07/10/1994
Recruited from: Bendigo Pioneers
Style:
Player comparison: Trent Cotchin (Bigger bodied version)
Range: 2-10
Profile: Wines is a really good all rounder and a real footballer who attacks the ball hard and more often than not comes out with it. Good ball user by both hand and foot and decision making ability and for an inside player has rare composure and regularly chooses the right option in a variety of situations. Good finishing around goal. Excellent at reading the play and gets into the right positions. Wines is already very physically developed, big ball winners who can step into an AFL team from round one and play some good football. Wins all the clearances and contested ball and is a guy you can rely on, on the inside to get the job done. He isn’t a standout athlete but his endurance is elite and will be in the very top percentile and his work rate is a real selling point to his game. Also really like his tackling technique – he pins the arms and stops the opposition player from being able to move the ball on.

11. Carlton - Jonathan O'Rourke (183cm midfielder - Calder)c25

O'Rourke missed a fair chunk of last year with injury issues, and he still has quite a bit of size to put on, but that hasn't stopped him this year. In his first game of the Championships, he was quiet and wasn't able to get involved much. But he showed why he is highly rated against SA. If you hadn't seen him play before, you'd be forgiven for thinking he was more of an outside player. Because he doesn't look like your typical inside midfielder. But he is a smart player, and very impressive around the clearances. With quick hands, he can fire the ball out to his receivers. I tend to think the only way is up for O'Rourke.

#9 North Melbourne - Jonothon O’Rourke (VIC - Mid)km
Height: 183cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 21/04/1994
Recruited from: Calder Cannons
Style:
Player comparison: Rory Sloane
Range: 5-20
Profile: Missed most of the 2011 season with a hamstring injury but has come back hard in 2012 and shown us just how good he is. O’Rouke is an excellent inside player and big time inside ball winner but also can play some outside and do so well. Attacks the ball hard at every opportunity and goes hard at every contest which is what you want to see. Can really influence games with his inside work and the energy and hardness he provides at the footy. Very good all rounder who stands out most is his ball use, particularly by foot which is just so good for. Finds targets consistently by foot, has some hurt factor and finishes beautifully around goal. Decision making ability good and chooses the right target more often than not. Is also a very good athlete and has good pace and a nice leap on him. Very good in congestion and has that great decision making ability choosing the right targets even while pressured which is impressive.

also, love the sound of these 2 guys. love one of them to slip to our 2nd.

16. Hawthorn - Josh Simpson (183cm midfielder - East Fremantle)c25

Simpson was one of my absolute favourites coming into the season, and his move to WA has done nothing to dampen my expectations. He missed the start of the season with injury, but quickly returned to his best form. Last year he played mostly in the forward line, but he is a midfielder now and a good one at that. He has excellent speed and foot skills, I think he is perhaps the most natural footballer in the draft. Everything he does just looks right.

#23 Brisbane - Josh Simpson (WA – Mid/Fwd)km
Height: 183cm, Weight: 72kg, DOB: 09/02/1994
Recruited from: East Fremantle
Style: Daniel Wells
Player comparison:
Range: 5-30
Profile: Simpson has been one of the more interesting prospects over the past few years moving from WA to SA in 2011 to make the state squad then back to WA this season. Simpson has great acceleration and on a wing can do some damage. Generally good ball user by both hand and foot and by foot is duel sided. Still has a very lean build and I expect him to always be more of an outside player but I have been encouraged in the past with his attack on the ball and on the man despite his lean build. Has talent and while I think he will be rated very differently from club to club I expect a few clubs to be very keen to get someone with his talents on their list.

22. Collingwood - Jackson MacRae (188cm midfielder - Oakleigh)c25

Coming into the Championships, MacRae was typically a talented but inconsistent midfielder. He had been playing all over the ground, from the back lines to the wing and also up forward. Ultimately his best position in my opinion will be on a wing, and pushing up to the half forward line. He is an excellent size for an outside runner, and has the speed to go with it. His agility with ball in hand is arguably most impressive, and he seems to have a knack for evading tackles.

#18 Adelaide - Jackson Macrae (VIC – Mid/Fwd)km
Height: 188cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 03/08/1994
Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers
Style:
Player comparison: Jared Polec
Range: 10-30
Profile: Macrae has really come on this year and developed into one of the more intriguing prospects this year. Macrae is a highly skilled and highly production outside player who has really played some fantastic football throughout the u18 champs with his production and with his incredible ability by foot. Macrae’s kicking ability is a real standout feature – has great penetration and can kick accurately over a range of distances up to 55m and hit targets in dangerous positions. Finishing ability around goal good. Really weights his kicks beautifully and with regularity finds the correct target. Even under pressure in positions where he has no right to get a clear kick off to a target he still has great ability to find the right target up the field. Has rare poise and composure and seems to have more time than the next player. Reads the play well both offensively and defensively allowing him to get to the right positions. Marking ability above average and field marking ability as well as marking ability behind the ball is good. The other feature in Macrae’s game that makes him stand out from the pack is his running ability. Has really impressive pace and with it a very high work rate and excellent endurance which allows him to get so much of the ball around the ground.

Maybe we are trying to collect a full set of flankers?

whats the difference between a midfielder and a flanker a few centimetres in height? Id like to see them all play but Sam Mayes sounds alright to me.
