yeah saw the highlights and mcdonough looked like a real smart intuitive footballer. looked very very balanced. ive only seen 5 mins of highlights but he reminded me a little of porps , not skill wise i havent seen enough but in build, and balance/ core strength/ football smarts.

there are so many sa guys who have question marks that mean they will be available after pick 30 but have real potential as well. we definitely need to target some picks in the first half of the 3rd round.

mcdonough, the speed of irra, stark, murdoch, wallis, luccon etc. would love to see us add a lot of new players. gold coast and gws 3rd rounders could be available seeing as they need to downsize their lists.

McDonough is a player I consider to be truly two-sided. Excellent kick, good contested mark and quick hands. Will always be a player that has to do the hard yards- well, a little more than the rest- to stay fit. Very much in the same type as Chapman/O'Keefe. Pretty sure he's a Port supporter too.

Don't know anything about these kids, but once we address our need for midfielders and key forwards, we could do with finding a genuine small or mid-sized forward who has goal sense, evasiveness and footy smarts. A crumber opportunist with a strong, near ready AFL body would be ideal. It's highly noticeable that we have a complete lack of this sort of player in Robbie's absence.

If McDonough is available at our second round pick, we MUST take him. He has a big body that is going to be able to add muscle and strength easily, he will start as a small/medium forward but eventually become a midfielder. Would be hard pressed if Menzel and McDonough if both were available though.

I think Mayes will slide if someone like Collingwood, Geelong or Richmond don't pull the trigger. Two of those clubs can wait for him to develop and not need results with in three years while he builds an AFL body, the other side has a young squad and he would compliment their already promising group. f Mayes is about at early third round we would be stupid not to pull the trigger. We should and could get three very classy mids with our first three picks, then we should be turning our attention to KPP's.

Is this draft compromised again?

Nope. If you're not going to draft KPPs with decent picks, given they're speculative and take years, then just keep drafting mids.

Would be interested in Scott Gumbleton. I think.his time at Essendon will be near complete and with the emergence of Hurley and Crameri, Carslile, Pears, Meyers etc. is possibly surplus to their needs, if delisted probably a fourth or fifth round selection in the draft. Has had a horrid run with injuries but Schulz had a terrible run at Richmond and looked an absolute hack. We could do far worse.

We have enough players living in injury clouds, we can't afford to add Gumbleton to that list.

lol. mayes is talked around top ten.

even if teams feel worst case scenario he will not develop into a prolific ball winner teams wont mind a fast hff with a great kick that nabs goals consistantly.

Toumpas is looking likely to fall to our first pick (going on a handful of phantom drafts).

Would people be happy with him with our 1st round pick?

i definitely think we should and will go mid with our first with toumpas and wines available probably the best options.

from our 2nd round again so many mids should be around there.

i reckon teams early will be wary of menzel but could see geelong, hawks and the pies jumping, then gc and gws with their 2nd rounds. gws has a priority pick after adelaides 1st round also i believe. i dont see all of these guys passing on menzel to let him get to our 2nd.

i would wet my pants if toumpas was available. when ready looks set to be a top notch midfielder.

i think the odds are against it though.

gc- whitfield

gws- grundy/ maybe toumpas

i think these 2 picks are fairly close to set

melb- viney and toumpas or ( if no bid on f/s) -toumpas - wines/ grundy/ mayes/ plowman/stringer

then what if bris and western bullddogs finish lower than us?

The draft ain't here yet and Mayes seems a little speculative. I just don't see him becoming more than a Half Forward.

Toumpas, Whitfield, Viney, Stringer, Garlett and Vlastuin, any of these lads would be great with our first selection.

McDonough, Wines, Atkins, Kennedy or Menzell, seccond round.

Mayes, Colquhoun, Barry, Amarto or Irra, in the third.

James Stewart or Marvin Warrell in the fourth.

Scott Gumbleton in the fifth.

Surely not SPG? Had Lars two years ago. Is an exceptional tallent and is speedy. If a second round pick, ie 21ish, would be an absolute ripper. McDonough I see similar to Tapscott a few years back, solid lad with great footy smarts and Tapscott went t 17ish.

Once bitten, twice shy. My concern with Menzel is that he has had LARS- even though it looks to be successful. Combine that with his brother's injury woes and Hartlett who is a concern. Nothing against the lad, I'm just sick of the number of our draftees who spend the first couple of years in rehab.

As for McDonough, I rate him higher than Tapscott.
