So what is the status of our current list? I had a look at the PAFC website and note that Dan Houston is still listed as are the likes of Clurey, McCallum, Narkle and co. Obviously the story that Dan Houston was traded to Collingwood is nothing but a vicious rumour.

Has Logan Evans been elevated to the Senior list or are we still paying him a Rookie List wage? Is Jordan Sweet, who looks to be our no1 ruck choice, still a rookie? Have we even got the space and salary cap room to elevate these two if we want to? I know we have a couple of train ons working with us and one of them may be picked up by Feb 21. Maybe we need the room to add Josh Lai or Jack Watkins to the list or maybe we are planning for the Mid Season Draft?

By my count, which could be wrong, if Sweet and Francis are still listed as Rookies we only have 35 players on the Senior List. We could have as many as seven Cat A Rookies and Jacob Moss as a Cat B.

Usually footywire.com has it right but they are listing Rory Atkins in the no2 guernsey and Jack Lukosius as no 13! If they cannot get guernsey numbers right what else have they got wrong?

Hopefully someone can clarify the situation.

Sweet is not a rookie at Port and never has been.

Who is Francis?

Our Cat A rookies are
L Evans
Walsh
Cochrane
Williams

Our Cat B rookies are
Moss
Barrett

We have one senior list spot open which we will fill in the SSP.

Who would you guys rather

Watkins or Lai?
Would need to see more footage of Lai first. Also only seen limited footage of Watkins.

Watkins will play for Port regardless of whether he gets an AFL spot or not.

Lai might have more upside, and probably wont stay with us if he doesn't get the spot, so I have a slight preference for taking a punt on him. Hard to say though from what I know about both.

From a business perspective this, with a handshake to Watkins that if there is a season ending injury or retirement he is first cab off the rank mid year. Would also be gunning for Lai’s brother with a second handshake ā€œif there is a second mid year selectionā€ he will be on our list to finish the year.

Thanks for that, I can rely on BF for accurate information, it is a pity the PAFC cannot keep the supporters up to date via the Club website. Then again that is yet another indication of the way the PAFC has gone downhill in the Koch era. They are too busy with the inclusive agenda to worry about the basics.

I suspect I was confusing Logan Evans with Francis Evans. Doubtless they will elevate Logan Evans to the senior list at the end of 2025. Then again the way Port have operated lately they are just as likely to delist L Evans and offer McEntee another two years.

PS. Francis was a talking mule. Geez, that is going back to the days when Ford Fairlanes had white wall tyres. ;)

Maybe I'm being harsh, but Watkins screams the next Sutcliffe or McEntee pick. Not big enough/good enough to be an AFL midfielder, so becomes an ineffectual small forward. You just know if he gets picked he's getting games in the forward line, to do not much. Lai is unlikely to make it, but if he does, at least it wouldn't be as playing a role that shouldn't exist.

By the end of the year, we had some real issues up forward.
Lets see how List Management took care of business.

DELISTED AND TRADED PLAYERS

Trent McKenzie
Tom Clurey
Charlie Dixon
Francis Evans
Quinton Narkle
Kyle Marshall
Tom McCallum
Tom Scully
Dan Houston

Out of all of those guys, the only one we are a bit upset about is Dan Houston being traded to Collingwood for unders so much so that the Mods terminated the thread. The rest of those cuts I don't have a problem with.

TRADED IN

Jack Lukosius
Joe Richards
Rory Atkins

DRAFTED

Joe Berry
Jack Whitlock
Christian Moraes
Benny Barrett
Tom Cochrane
Jacob Moss

STRUCTURAL LIST CHANGES

We get rid of four tall defenders in McKenzie, Clurey, Marshall and McCallum and only replaced them with the low investment of rookie CATB selection Jacob Moss. Unless Walsh is coming on in leaps and bounds, we will need to get some more KPDs in the future. This could become a problem this year but Bergman can play very tall.

We let go of two tall forwards in Dixon and Scully and replaced them with former top pick Jack Lukosius and the naturally gifted Jack Whitlock. That is some really good investment there. J-Luk could elevate his play, pairing with Georgiades, enjoying his Mum's lasagne and playing with his homeboy Rozee. Jack could also be a flaky in and out of the game forward and the second coming of Todd Marshall. Whitlock has many athletic strings to his bow and it will be interesting to see if he can get the most out of himself. Hopefully he can dominate SANFL early and kick a few bags as there is a third forward tall position up for grabs.

We ditch two small forwards in Fevans and Narkle with McEntee probably lucky to have a year left on the contract too. We brought in Joe Richards, Joe Berry and cashed in Benny Barrett. It is almost like the List Management team almost coached the team by delisting Evans and Narkle because Hinkley kept on playing them. Anyway, we get the mysterious Joe Richards. A few teams went for him and we don't really know what we have until we see him play. Berry is the prized first round draft pick and hopefully he plays early. Like Richards, another guy who teams were gunning for. And then the free hit with Benny Barrett who has that sizzling speed and hopefully goal sense to terrorise teams in the future. In highlights for another player, I saw Benny pick the ball up off the deck at full speed like he was Andrew McLeod. A really big investment at the small forward, goal kicking type position. Good stuff. It seems the reign of defensive small forwards who tread water and squib marking contests are well over. Happy days.

We lose a medium defender in Houston. He is a dual AA seagull and I've said it many times on here I am confident we can cover him. Although the medium and small defenders will be on the young side, they have a huge amount of improving to do. I assume Farrell will go to the number 1 seagull role and I think he will nail it. Jones was improving towards the end of the year and doesn't really realise his potential yet. Logan Evans came out of the ether to impress everyone and still has a lot to learn. He's got the football IQ and a good blend of height and pace. Sinn is one who needs to get some games under his belt and he gives us a different look of superior pace and breaking lines off the half back. These four are pretty talented but young. Burton and Williams lurk. Also, Burgoyne could play seagull like he did against the Hawks dominating down back.

We don't lose any midfielders but pick up the veteran Atkins, the plucky Brazilian Moreas and rookie Tom Cochrane. Not huge investments there but Moreas could be the pick up and start on the wing with superior running and link up play. Burgoyne played a lot of wing last year and did really well in that difficult and unheralded role in the team last year. Moreas could do the same. Lorenz could surprise as well. Atkins is backup for our midfield but he's a seasoned campaigner and will wait his turn. The other aspect of Atkins, along with Watkins and possibly another SSP selection is that we could have a serious midfield in the SANFL which would dramatically help the team but also help in the development of the younger players. This is a big tick for mine as development has been a big issue for us especially for talls. The Magpies forward line won't be a desert and the backline won't have the ball coming in easily. Good luck to rookie Cochrane.

No rucks. All good.

For mine, we were desperate to recondition our forward line which was our Achilles heel last year where several net negative or plainly bad players were getting game weekly. For the immediate, we have the possibility of goal kicking forwards in Lukosius, Richards and Berry. Adding to that is the bald nut power of Powell-Pepper making his way back into the side. Our forward line has a lot of potential now. We will see how it goes soon enough.

I like that we're getting players for backup but also roles for the Magpies. Given the wooden spoon last year, we are bringing in some midfielders who will work hard and give opportunities for the Power players to develop in their roles. I would have preferred finding these players outside our list but lets see how it plays out.

I don't think Dan won't be missed. If the backline falls apart, people will come a knocking. I like the more young, defensive, one on one, athletic, backline that we have. They will need a bit of time but I like it.

Midfield is still one of the best in the comp. Hopefully another young guy can put pressure on the guys.

The shift in the list has moved mainly from tall backs to all forwards and depth at midfield. Our last five or so players in the 23 is much better than last year and we really had problems in this area. All of this is good business.

Generally speaking, the majority of our best players are young and in important positions. Rozee, Butters, Horne-Francis, Bergman and Georgiades are all candidates for AA next season. Then we have a plethora of up and coming guys like Burgoyne, Evans, Jones, Berry, Lukosius, Sinn, Visentini among others.
Then we have those in the mid bracket who are still young but reaching their peaks in Farrell, Richards, Powell-Pepper, Drew, Sweet, Marshall among others.

The only older players that we really need to worry about are Aliir who is going to be hard to replace. Rioli who is hard to replace but we have the players in the list already, hopefully. Wines, who is a good midfielder but I think we can replace him easily enough. I am not as concerned with Boak and Byrne-Jones.

We have a young, very talented team which will continually improve over time. It will be not as fast as it should because of the admin and coaching. They will prefer to play old players until they are laughably bad to the detriment of the team. But there is great hope in the list, just not in the coaching especially come finals.

So............

.....we have, since late last year, introduced to the club:
Jacob M, Jack L, Joe B, Jack W, Joe R, and perhaps a Josh L (as an SSP).

Do I sense a predisposition towards the letter 'J' here?

Will our next coach have a christian name beginning with a 'J'?
