It will help that Blake's coach at North is now a development coach at Port and holds him in high regard (from link above).

North Adelaide coach Mitch Clisby believes Oudshoorn-Bennier's commitment gave the 2025 Roosters list a benchmark to understand what it takes to strive for the next level.

“His professionalism and drive and dedication put himself in a position to perform well off the back of what looked like a season-ending injury was super impressive,” Clisby said.

“If it was any other kid, they're probably not having the season he had but due to his commitment to the rehab and program, he got it done, but I'm not surprised because that's the kid he is.”

You certainly can’t knock his dedication, character & professionalism, which leads to the question of why all 18 clubs over looked him in the draft? Maybe height & leg speed?
He tested well for speed at the combine. Did the 20m sprint in 2.98 seconds. His movement and kicking reminds me of a right dominant Farrell but he's got better evasion skills than Farrell.

Maybe that his role at AFL level isnt as clear, ultimately I see him as a mid , but he may have to battle away in that small forward role initially, which doesnt seem to be his natural possie.

Plenty of players get overlooked especially players with jack of all trades like skill sets see: Dan Houston - pick 45 in the rookie draft.

Plenty of solid footballers go undrafted/late in rookie/ssp now

He's got leg speed too, question could be height, 2 way running and contest work but his contest work has improved significantly this year.

I'd start him off HB instead of small forward. His kicking and one touch control are his biggest assets and can use them off HB and perhaps release Rozee up front.

I was thinking Stephenson would get the nod before Xmas break up, but then they would have to dump one of the other train ons (2 per list spot) unless they convince them to stick around for the 2026 MSD.

Stephenson would be an interesting pick ... I would hope we bring on Balyn O'Brien or Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier?

As we have been crying out for lockdown small defender for years
and Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier would be insurance for Butters if he leaves (but I hope he doesn't)

A guy who was overlooked in a historically weak draft isn’t insurance for a top 5 player in the comp lol

Wondering if Zadow is likely to feature early in the season. There's been very little talk of him that I've seen so hard to know where he stands.

Admittedly the only vision of him seems to be from the internal trial and snippets from the WAFL last year. But everything I saw was him operating as a lead up high half forward with good defensive pressure rather than any signs of being a true goalkicking small forward. Although from the match thread it sounded like he hit the scoreboard a bit in the SANFL trial.

I think the main reason people (including myself) had gotten attached to Stephenson is that he represented a hail Mary at adding a genuine dangerous forward, simply because he has previously shown the ability to be that (albeit 7 years ago). The top teams these days feature a fleet of smalls that can all impact the scoreboard; Geelong, Hawthorn, Adelaide and Brisbane all had at least 2 smalls kicking over 30 goals last year as well as another 2 or 3 players that bagged over 20. Having a multitude of threats on the ground inside 50 seems a key ingredient in the modern game.

Port have lost the only bloke (Rioli) who was even in the ball park of kicking 30. Now with the list finalised for 2026 the only other options are

Likely starting 4
DBJ: pushed 30 goals a few seasons back when Port were top 4 but is hardly a weapon that will have opposition defences quivering if he is the main threat.
Richards: Strong contributor in the HFF role, but will need to get a lot more dangerous around goals if he wants to elevate to the level of other gun general forwards in the comp.
Berry: needs to make a massive leap this year, has the pedigree but seemed allergic to kicking a goal whenever he got the opportunity last year. Huge ask for him to go from such a low base to a 20-30 goal contributor.
Durdin: Looks to have some goal smarts from his Carlton days, but early signs are that he'll be flat out getting a touch let alone averaging more than a goal a game. Will be very (pleasantly) surprised if he holds his spot for most of the season.

Injured
Cochrane: Has lurched from complete unknown rookie to freak goalsneak to perennially injured in his one year at the club. Will hopefully be able to get a good run of games this year but can't expect any significant goalkicking output yet.
SPP: Who knows if he will have much impact at all this season once he is available, but would be capable of 30 goals if he gets a clean run into 2027.

Untried
McKinlay: has debuted but very little to go on so far. Apparently has impressed in preseason but likely not near the 23 yet. Maybe more of a midfielder than a goalkicking option anyhow.
Barrett: a long way away from AFL at this stage.
Anastasopoulos: a long way away from AFL at this stage.

So Zadow is coming in with a pretty clear run at getting an AFL game if he can impress early. As a mature age recruit he should be aiming for that. Obviously though it's pretty fanciful to expect him to move the dial on the forward line's ground level threat.

Small/medium forwards don't tend to have a long development arc-- you can usually tell quite early on if they have anything about them. They are a good type to target with second rounders, and I think the disdain that the list management team has had for hanging onto those in the last 5 years (throwing them out like candy to get up the draft board) is a large reason why the list is ridiculously thin in this department.
