Especially given he's a Crows target to bring home no doubt.

If we just re-signed McAndrew for 2 more years. surely we are putting our chips into him as the future ruck? We can do with ROB for at least 2 more years and if McAndrew doesn't come on, just go and get someone else.

I don’t think so, our chips are still in on ROB for at least a couple more years. McAndrew more likely a Strachan replacement and ROB’s replacement will come from a trade or FA. Hopefully we add a 3rd type which is a developing kid. Even churning basketballers through the cat B list would be an improvement

Where I reckon old Bicks stuffs up is that he doesn’t recalibrate his views from juniors to actual AFL experience. Was a big wrap for that spud we got to pollute the danger reaming too. Never rated Lyons, of the genuine discussion points, reckon he gets more wrong than right once they start playing.

I don't reckon he'd even be on $200k. A backup player that was going to play SANFL at the start of the year... that gets you the lowest rate allowed in the CBA

McAndrew is our Strachan replacement, as the SANFL-based break-glass-in-emergency ruck. He's not expected to be ROB's replacement.

He’d have to be on league minimum this year, which I’d guess is around $120k base plus match payments. $200k for a backup ruck that we don’t intend ever playing seems about right.

Agreed, I think he’s a big upgrade on Berry IMO and would complement others around him if we could bring him in.

I thought he looked pretty comparable to ROB during the pre season games.

Other players in good SANFL form get promoted occasionally. Until we see him at league leve, I wouldn't be prepared to be so definitive about being just an emergency ruckman.

I don't understand this. Are you saying backups don't get signed to two year deals?

I mean, Borlase did just last year. If you have a midcareer backup who can do a job, it makes sense to lock them down.

ROB said last week we offered 2 years early on and haven’t spoken since. That doesn’t sound like a club desperate to keep a player.

Maybe he should have played better in the previous years and they are seeing through this spike in form.

I don’t mind it if it means we manage him correctly and give him more regular breaks through the end of the year.

His best his still valuable, but his body needs to be rated regularly to keep him
performing.
