North or South?
Coleman has also had a couple of well documented setbacks with his rehabilitation as well, might be a bit of buyer beware there too.

ROB usually gets out jumped so won't help him.

He's best when he engages to nullify thr other ruckman.
ROB's M.O. this year was to position himself as close as possible to the centre line as the ball was bounced, so he could run into the opposition ruck and take their jump away from them.

He would struggle to jump over a jam jar.

I've got wind from one of the AFC coaches that McAndrews has put on a bit of size, could beat ROB out come round 1

New rules would benefit McAndrews, hurts ROB unfortunately

We need competition at that spot to keep ROB training honest

Hope so, I thought he looked a fair way off AFL standard watching him during the SANFL finals.

Hope you are right about round one but I doubt we signed ROB for three years if we didn't think he would be our number 1.

I have been saying for years that I am not a fan of ROB. We should have never re signed him, but again failed to make a tough decision to let him go as what the supporters might think. He is a huge liability out there. His foot skills are terrible, Barely takes any marks around the ground (averages less than 1 a quarter), always seems to position himself in the wrong spots around the ground, Below average for Clearances for a Ruckman. Got Dominated by Cameron and Meek in the Finals. I think days of just being a one trick tap ruckman are done, need to be much more than that.

Sometimes the supporters get fooled by the “he tries hard” mantra
"Tries hard"???? It's when he pick and choose to give effort is the problem.

Keidean ?

Cant see him going anywhere with Starcevich and Ah Chee leaving.
They're going to be shoehorning more of their young talent like Marshall and Annable into the side and so I can see a situation where he's still 'fringe best 23' when really he should be a walk-up start (when fully fit) in any side but especially ours and basically the architect of our defensive rebound by putting the ball in his hands whenever possible (like StK do with NWM). That's what I'd be pitching him...nothing to lose.

Exactly, I watched him very close during the SANFL finals and I get the feel even with his height advantage that's about his level.

that was only later in the season when he was tired and team was cooked. go back earlier in season and he was spotting guys up
Yeah much more composed earlier in the season. Did his best Laird impersonation later on.

I hope so. He seemed to be everywhere he needed to be in the GF. Smart reader of the play with a handy skillset.
Sorry for the intrusion - yes on Ah Chee, he has been a favourite player at the Lions since he arrived, he can play anywhere and in his initial few years at the Lions he was "Mr Fix It' can play across half back, wing or half forward and in the last 2 seasons most damaging cross the half forward. In games he covers any injury, seems to be able to flip from the forwards to the backs without missing a beat and has been used as someone Fagan will drop behind the ball when there is a momentum shift against us. You wont find a Lions supporter not pleased for Cal.

BUT - you may not want his brother to design your indigenous round outfit. We were well and truly ridiculed for the 'bum crack' both when the boys wore it and again when the girls for it.

Why aren't more clubs into Joel Freijah? 1 year left on contract I know, but would fit our needs perfectly. Can play multiple positions (half back, midfield, wing). Big bodied. Can kick goals, has touch with skills into F50 as well. Offer him 6 years at $800 or $900K and more midfield time. 14 + F12026 or Butts + 14 and Pick up cheap key defender.

I'm not absolutely sure any new rule can't prevent that. Unless they insert a 'no contact prior to tapping' type wording.

If so, this is a harsh rule change with zero notice. It is the AFL disadvantaging some clubs who have invested in a wrestling type ruck like ROB.. meanwhile, Brisbane recruit Sam Draper just as the Brisbane guy steps into the AFL rule change role. Coincidence?...hmm

I can foresee a scenario where due to 5 on the bench, two rucks play who interchange immediately after the 'jumping CBA specialist has contested. This leaves a 'field ruck' to play until the next CBA.

Maybe there's a immediate use for McAndrew? What's his leap like?

Thoughts anyone...?

Its a nice thought but one unlikely to be utilised by coaches. After all the huff and puff not one 2nd ruck will be part of the bench rotation

The other issue is how do you quantify a pay structure for a person on the field for less than 20 minutes a game? ( Wrestle Ruck )

5 on the bench completely ruins the thought train everyone has been on that less interchange rotation will lead to fatigue and game opening up.

Joel and his management are close to signing off on a new deal as I mentioned recently, mail is he's very happy at the Dogs and gets on well with Bevo. Calls Horsham home but still think there's very little hope of getting him. No reason why Charlie Edwards can't play similar roles, very similar attributes to Freijah....just needs the opportunity to show it, however I really don't like the way Charlie is being handled by the club thus far. Drafted as a mid/forward but all last season played half back or deeper.
