I think there are two separate discussions around Marshall.

I think he would clearly improve the team and is an upgrade in O'Brien.

I am not sure I want to give up too much for him though. If it was the picks for O'Brien plus a bit it's worth it but I think the Saints will want alot more.

We still need to draft talent.

ROB finds something extra when there's a spot in the team or a contract on the line

We should keep him dangling all season.
Which would be my method of list management - wait until August then talk

If they get TDK , they wont want the farm for Marshall

a 2nd rounder would get it done, or if we finish top 6 a late first rounder if needed with something coming back

Be good if we actually had a 2nd round pick.....

You're correct, I was too quick to screenshot it before the formulas updated the picks properly. The embedded version is right now though:

Gotta love Ports rebuild starting sometime o wait

Richmond know how to do it though

Hinkley is addicted to his missing link strategy just like last year which was looking like a top 8 pick before they got on a roll. Will they get lucky this time as it's looking like a top 4 pick.

Maybe wishful thinking on Essendons behalf
It was the round 5 picks and the round 11 ladder 🤣 Both of Essendon's picks should drop by the end of the season though. Essendon had a nice fixture to start the year and even then barely scraped into the 8 for a minute (not even sure if it was the end of a round) with a percentage of like 85. Now we've got no talls left thanks to a horrific run of LTIs, we're heading into the hard part of the fixture, and we made Richmond look competitive last Friday night so you can imagine the train wreck that's coming. There's a couple of anchors at the bottom of the ladder but we'll probably end up between 12th and 14th at the end of the year, with Melbourne at about 15th or 16th. Could be picks 3 and 7 in the end.

So how much you paying Marshall per annum and what contract length, he's 30 in November?

Well, Marshall is about three months younger than ROB. He's contracted for the next two years.

Let's assume he wants to come here. I imagine you add one year to the end of his contract as a trade bonus, to help get him across.

The trade is trickier. Perhaps we give up pick 15 for Marshall and 41 - and we let ROB go for a band 3 compo, which is around pick 33.

That would mean we'd have Marshall, 33 and 41 for pick 15, which seems like a good improvement in the ruck position.

ROB won’t get much in the open market. He’s cruised for 3 years, surely putting in for a few weeks when you’re arguing over size and length won’t fool decent list management groups.

Clubs will give an overs contract if they want to get someone over the line. Both Blues and Pies might be desperate for one, if they lose TDK and Cameron

What's the latest with the bidding process? Hasn't the points system been updated?

What will this mean for the clubs looking to trade out first rounders?

How are we positioned for this?

Discount for matching bids on F/S ha been reduced to 10% (which slightly disadvantages us this year as Mitch Stevens looks like being a second rounder). They've also changed the Draft Value Index to increase the steepness at which the value of draft picks declines. So our later picks in this year's draft are essentially worthless in terms of bid matching. Clubs can now also trade picks from two years in advance, but you'd think their value would be steeply discounted given the uncertainty and Tasmania.

Rowan Marshall 30 in 2026
Tom DeKoning 26 in 2026

Some of the reasoning very likely but $1.7 Mill for a ruckman is just plain madness.
Is there a world they view TDK as a forward target to pair with King and keep Marshall in the ruck?

TDK has looked great in the past when he's spent some time in the forward line but when you've got Curnow and McKay, it makes sense why he's been further up the ground.

They’d go for Marshall instead.
